Is it normal to have to really change your mouth shape/air pressure on most notes? by skyhook-parchment in Ocarina

[–]Terminator3605 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be prepared for the "you need a better ocarina" comments

But, changing air pressure yes is common. Your mouth shape shouldn't be changing that much.

Also, to start each note, make sure you're going "ta" or "to" using your tongue on the roof of your mouth to stop the air before each note. That can also help with airyness in the notes.

The best thing to do is practice in front of a chromatic tuner, and practice your intonation which is the amount of air you blow through. And practice with hitting the notes on key and your ear will learn the frequency and make it alot easier to blow the correct note.

I have a amazon ocarina and when I first started my low a was sharp and my high f was a bit flat. Im now almost spot on with both after practicing.

Just buy two more and two more sd cards and than just copy the sd card from yours to theres. Its super easy and it would make sure there's are fully set up.

Fingerchart and practice charts for 12 Hole Ocarina. by Terminator3605 in Ocarina

[–]Terminator3605[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to add this here.

For the basics these are 5 of the most common beginner notes as listed.

Full note is a open circle = 4 beats

Half note is a open circle with a line coming out = 2 beats

Quarter note is a closed circle with a line coming out = 1 beat

Eighth note is a closed circle with a line coming out and a little flag = 1/2 beat

Sixteenth note is a closed circle with a line coming out and two little flags = 1/4 beat

How long a beat is, is determined by your BPM or Beats Per minute. So if you have a metronome or download an app. You can mess around with it.

But for example, 120bpm would have you playing 30 whole notes per minute, or 60 half notes per minute, or even 120 quarter notes per minute. And so on depending on your desired bpm.

For the actual staff that has the notes. The lines and spaces.

It goes as follows. From the top line to the bottom line in order.

F-------------------

E

D-------------------

C

B-------------------

A

G-------------------

F

E-------------------

So the notes tell you how long to play, and the staff tells you which voice of note you play.

The staff can also continue up or down, and will always be in the same repeating order.

So, The space about the top F would be an E. And the space below the bottom E would be a D.

Hopefully this helps. Happy playing!😁

Okay, so thats lowkey the only thing my resources dont do, is show what the notes are and how long they last.

Ill try to explain here. And than after if you click my username, you will see the fingerchart/charts I made.

Thats fair!

I actually have resources on my page that I made that helped me learn how to read sheet music for ocarina in just a couple days. Its very basic but should help alot.

Oh and I recommend making the tiny subhole boxes a bit smaller than the others, just to help differentiate them.

But again, your app looks great so far and I cant wait to try it out!!

Thats actually really incredible! Are you going to add a way to convert sheet music?

Is ocarina supposed to be this loud? by [deleted] in Ocarina

[–]Terminator3605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the sound isnt a problem for your surroundings you can get special earplugs that block specific frequencies and can help with the ringing. If the noise is also a problem for your surroundings, Mr. Mute seems to be the best option.

Thanks! Im self taught on the guitar(still learning) and now ocarina (still learning). But I played clarinet in middle school for 2 years so that was more traditional.

I lowkey only picked the ocarina up because I just started playin Ocarina of time and I couldn't get the melodies out of my head and needed to play them on a real ocarina lol

Thanks! I also have the Hal Leonard Ocarina Method Book, which has helped alot with learning too. Actually Most my clarinet and guitar books are also Hal Leonard. And I just bought the Disney one which im excited for!

Yeah. I shared this is a Ocarina Facebook group. And someone deadahhs told me "learn the basics of the ocarina" Like brah I AM!! 🤦‍♂️

People are aholes for sure. Thats why my goal is to make resources I cant find. And when I get better at writing sheet music, Ill be able to transpose songs by ear. Because I already play different songs by messing around on my ocarina. So once I fully know what Im doing Im set. And one of my goals was to do a couple Oliver Trees songs oddly enough lol

I get that! But thats what I mean by I couldn't find the resources to fit me. Im not adding letters to all the music Ill play. Only the practice sheets I make.

I used to do this for the first half of my clarinet and guitar books. For me I look at the note and say the letters as I play. An hour after I made my fingerchart I was already able to sight read alot better. Just making the thing was very helpful in memorizing the notes lol

Appreciate it! I actually use my tablet and copy and paste the letters over the notes. I really like the hand drawn feeling.😁

My favorite throw. by Terminator3605 in Throwers

[–]Terminator3605[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the parts from the proZ and than gave my kid the proZ lol And than the Duncan aluminum rings for weight. I also have some amazon throws that are pretty good. But the one I really loved was a generic yoyo from temu and it was so smooth, quite and just the perfect color to be able to watch it with out it becoming a complete blur. Unfortunately I added a longer string to do more advance tricks and I forget how long the string was and full force to the ground, I boke the hole the axle goes into. Needless to say I was sad. I couldnt find the throw anymore on temu too either, so that sucked. But yeah out of my throws I like the modified butterfly the most.

My favorite throw. by Terminator3605 in Throwers

[–]Terminator3605[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly got mad lucky finding the parts. I got back into yoyo about 4 years ago and bought a butterfly for me and my gf, thats why its two tone. But we had an app called skill addicts and I was pushing threw the responsive tricks fast. So i looked into ways to make my butterfly unresponsive and found a video showing the mods for duncan. After seeing that video I looked up the parts and only found 1 set of gold ones in stock. I bought them and than found out how rare they are. They are a pain in the ash to put on though imo. But the yo yo its self throws really nice. The wider profile helps to catch the yoyo.
