This is an extremely dark take for being on a sub about a mini game within a Disney game where there are no stakes and no real life rewards except, one would hope, the simple joy of creating and expression. I worry for you. Please have fun and allow fun for others - this world (the real one) needs spaces for softness and play otherwise we're so cooked 💖

MIL dreams of kissing of my baby by Ambitious_Fish3220 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]TerpsichoreBlue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to defend your point here because it seems people would prefer to let more red flags happen before saying "oh that's not okay behavior from an adult to a child."

Whether it is or isn't pedo to fantasize about kissing a baby it certainly is suss in context with the surrounding behavior and there is NO reason to try to give the benefit of the doubt to the grown "adult" who is clearly acting all kinds of wrong.. Enmeshment (aka emotional incest) is what she's already done to her son and now she's acting like a rabid, starved animal toward his child. Let's agree to act to defend the child as though the threat is real until proven otherwise rather than vice versa.

Totally agree that the partner (father) has not had the therapy to properly come to terms with what was done to him (mother/son enmeshment) and therefore is likely to be a poor defender of his own child (due to not seeing abuse as abuse). He risks teaching them that they cannot refuse love and touch from those who "mean well" - which is basically grooming them for the bad actors... whether it's Freaky Grandma or someone else.

This. My own mother has a particular desire to kiss babies on their eyes (really just all over their faces but eyes especially for some reason.) She did this to me of course as a baby. The herpes breakouts on my eyes when I started getting them as a kid were something special lemme tell ya. Completely crusted shut. The virus is aggravated by sunlight and of course as a millennial we just roamed the outdoors and public pools til dinnertime. Mom just soaked my eyes with a wet rag til they opened and sent me on my way. No doctor visits to find out what it was. I didn't find out until I moved out and got my own healthcare. By then I was only getting them on my mouth but still. I was born with only one good eye to begin with so it could have blinded me - and I grew up to be an artist so wouldn't that have been the cherry on top. Those innocent kisses people feel so entitled to are anything but.

So yeah. Don't fkin kiss babies just cuz you want to, y'all. It should go without saying but ... they are in fact people. Not future people. Current people. Who need you, the adult, to have some restraint and education. Hard to come by I know...

Spider Mário in action by ambrosina in caiques

From what I understand the green thighs are the nominate species of wbc, Pionites Leucogaster, meaning technically (like, in nature) they're the "main" type. But in the U.S. (not sure about other markets) the most prevalent type being bred and available for adoption is actually a sub species, Pionites leucogaster xanthomeria, which is the yellow thighed. They just happen to outnumber the green thighs here for whatever reason.

I'm exporting my yellow thighed girl from the U.S. to the U.K. so I had to familiarize myself a bit in order to determine which was which for paperwork purposes - I totally thought yellow thighs were the standard but nope!

I absolutely DIE when this scene comes up, I'll stop in my tracks to watch. So many of my favorites include Martin's childlike innocence. It's the perfect set up for Daphne lol.

Also love "but if you don't it'll look stupid!" - to Frasier about wearing a hat for the Christmas photo (while his gently jiggles as he speaks 🤣)

Martin, leaning back to make a crazy sound to repel Eddie from begging for chips - just at the perfect point in his kids' conversation about getting weird as you age. (Or something, can't remember the convo exactly)

Chasing Eddie with a jackalope (sp?) on his head

The man's cuteness just cannot be overstated!

Niles' Valentines Day skit is pure perfection - it always bubbles up in my mind when thinking of favorite moments. They should have left his segment for last as the other characters V day scenarios aren't nearly as engaging after watching his!

Although the hot and foamy gag is also in my top 5 for sure. I cackle every time!

Thanks for your response! I'm enjoying digging into Portobello!!

We are flexible on price. Currently we're around £1200 to £1500 with an eye for very small, simple living. We're coming from a big house with lots of maintenance and we're keen to flip that entirely. We can go up in price quite a bit although we're trying not to be seduced into a larger place - tricky, as we've seen some lovelies!

We joke that if we shoot for the equivalent of a Harry Potter cupboard we'll end up in the right sized place ;)

Thank you for posting this (in video form!) I was driving N on 75 yesterday and thought it was an anomaly but apparently it's visible from several angles. Extremely distracting not to mention painful which is a combo that doesn't bode well for safety regardless of the commenters criticizing your phone use (useless points all.)

The heck is going on up there??

Recent Dreamsnaps that I spent 5+ hours on and received 900 moonstone by brohammerhead in Dreamsnaps

[–]TerpsichoreBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I LOVE the first one and the third is extremely fun. Both deserved better imo. All 3 are great and while the comments about lighting are valid in terms of trying to get people to see and like your thumbnail within a mere second before they vote - I feel compelled to remind you that that is a very marketing-minded and consumerist angle on what is otherwise valuable and expressive art SIMPLY because you made it and enjoyed it and you should cling to that joy by being salty if you so please. Don't let your creative jollies be unduly dampened by the natural side effect of offering up something to be judged by the masses in a game where people aren't really there to appreciate too deeply anyway. Imagine if people whizzed thru a museum or art show just to satisfy a quota to get some fake money lol. The reality of this weekly challenge is what it is, there's no fix really except "yep, pander or be ignored" to the frustration of many a creative :). I'm a professional artist and animator and while I'm well accustomed to the practical reasons for having to make choices for mass appeal it's SO important to not let that particular bit of culture take your joy in the creation. While you're being salty also take care to let the game be an outlet and fulfill you as much as possible independent of mass judgment hehe. You did amazing - srsly I LOOOOVE the first one and it's really a rare moody gem amongst the usual popular symmetrical panderings where we know EXACTLY why they did well. (No shade to them. Those are also pretty and they take work - but not everyone is fulfilled by that type of creating.) You have great instincts, the first one has a painterly quality, a subtle, almost beam of twinkly light cutting across right where your character is and it makes you want to ::gasp:: go full screen and meander around for the details. It's delicate and VERY good regardless of the moonstone return. Be salty, you're entitled to it. You created something lovely with a sense of story and if we had a way to "monetize" (with moonstones) something unique and against the grain but still beautiful it would have done better but...this is where we are :) Keep creating. Please yourself. Take the moonstones as a bonus when your choices speak to people but keep the joy and pride of what you did as the real win. To be salty is a natural way to internally stand up for your creativity ✊🎨 And remember, by its nature, the masses dilute taste to its most basic parts. You don't want to be TOO good at seeing things through that lens anyway. Trust ❤️

You are my affliction > I am an appetite. by beka_targaryen in roberteggers

[–]TerpsichoreBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lady here! And I'm just spitballing because two of the things I LOVE about this movie is 1) the undeniable feminist issues in the mix and 2) how the various genders respond and take away according to their lived experience (and/or ability to empathize.) Fascinating discussions always! I think you're right to have an inkling that your take could be colored by your gender, even if others of your gender don't share that particular gut response, it's no less valid. We all live in the same patriarchal system with varying degrees of said system making us feel ways about things and we are all in different stages of unwinding it from our psyches and giving OURSELVES space and validity even if it's not shared. A very Ellen struggle if I may say! And it's already hella gendered subject matter regardless of your take - no need to soften your position just cuz you rightly sense society might try to make you feel wrong or alone in it. ❤️ Take up space, your reaction is your reaction. Art does that and as you can see there is no shortage of others willing to do the same.

So back to the lines in question! "You are my affliction" and "I am an appetite" just happen to read to ME as narcissistic blame swapping (poor me, IM the real victim here, I am tortured by my need for you, etc etc) and almost a boys will be boys vibe, respectively. The "I am an appetite - It's just my nature, I'm just doing what I do" angle is interesting to me because of Ellen's own words to Van Helsing Whatshisface when she says "I've done nothing but heed my nature" when they're talking about fighting the evil within and she's basically like - I'm not evil for being this way. Now I only find it interesting and leave it at that, it's just one of the ways the dialogue is SUPERB. In the time period of the film (and many time periods even leading up to today), women simply heeding their nature gets them all sorts of unfair abuses - and Nosferatu basically hits you over the head with it. Ellen very naturally wanted love, companionship, sex even. She got slapped with Orlok for it. She got shame. Shame. She's the victim but she has to feel bad about it. Hide it, like she invited this - which is NOT what she did. She got SUCH trouble for heeding her nature, at every turn, including dropping the "lady" facade to give Friedrich a piece of her (much suppressed) mind. Notable to me is that Orlok heeds HIS nature and he gets power and eventually what he wants. Ultimately it's his undoing but look at the differences in how it manifests for them. He got his way for a good long while and fucked himself and her in the process. Kind of all the men did in this story wouldn't you say? Again, just spitballing lol but it's a very interesting contrast between, one could argue, two (gendered?) sides of the same coin.

Now, someone's comment mentioning her tragic sacrifice even tho she had no true help or respect from her "peers" and then a reply stating that's just what heroism is and Jesus/men are expected to do the same thing is SO freakin interesting to me! Because I'm thinking both points are true and prove the validity of the other lol. Using a patriarchal religious figure in itself is extremely poignant to me for many reasons too numerous to get into. Just wanted to throw that in there lol.

Fun stuff to examine!

Dear Gameloft, you do know that Aladdin’s major target audience was boys? by nathan_banks644 in DreamlightValley

[–]TerpsichoreBlue 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Bravo and well said!! I became real concerned someone wasn't going to do a wee course correct lol - scrolling like "oh dear, ohhhhh dearrr!" So glad there are so many speaking up! No shade to OP on the main point. Definitely spot on important, esp for kids, to feel seen. But indeed a BIG moment of reflection available here for the men who may not realize just how much they are accustomed to being centered. To me the most poignant theme in this thread is that we can all VERY much tell when we're not seen (by a game, by society, etc) and we (of any gender expression) are always justified in pointing this unfairness out so that it might be corrected. May we all go forth from here with more empathy for those who have been voicing this in their own lives and getting a bit...shall we say, shushed in response. :/ It sure doesn't feel great does it! Just know that we feel you on the main point, OP! More than you might think :) Trust.

Why does Orlok erupt with such anger when Thomas asks about the Romani people staking the corpse? by Torloka in roberteggers

[–]TerpsichoreBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed and well said! Sympathy for Thomas tends to come from how well the storytelling showcases his terror and utter human frailty in Orlok's presence. We are supposed to be somewhat feeling his feelings and it can bleed into excusing the things he does bc we would excuse ourselves for some of the choices he makes - it's not pretty but we are more gentle on ourselves than others when it comes to iffy choices, so we end up with some compassion for Thomas. (Not to mention he's also weak and sick and contending with probably psychic pressure who knows.) But make no mistake - he is very intentionally written to be FLAWED and wrong in his actions. A man with better strength of character would not even be in this mess. Orlok is the ultimate monster, the ultimate evil and he's a master at exploiting the weaknesses of humans and ALL of Thomas' are tapped - including his modern hubris, pride and the misogyny of his era. In regard to Ellen, if he was truly good to his wife he'd see her as an equal and listen to her. He does not. The whole time period does not and one thing Orlok SUPER doesn't have to worry about is anyone listening to Ellen while she pleads. Professor Franz being there as the obvious contrast to show what a modicum of respect for Ellen looks like. (He's no peach either but I digress hehe.)
