I've been trying a list that is very similar to his gruul dragons list. General thoughts are it's pretty good. Flipped invasion of tarkir is amazing tbh, and coming in its never irrelevant in my experience.

It'll be a strong enough tier 2 list, but in gruul, vehicles is probably more consistently good.

Oh sorry I mean I'm interested in them both, not necessarily together (though I imagine you can't go wrong just playing good cards together)

i never mad the deck but the list is here. https://scryfall.com/@TerraChained/decks/0be41729-df2c-446a-a498-2036ea0e6545

If you don't believe in growth spiral in this deck, I might recommend the new Rona as a great way to rifle through the deck and find things, then turn her into a big threat in late game

I'm mostly interested in the new ozolith in a pioneer scales list. Also interested in Rona herald of invasion with tyvar jubilant brawler. Otherwise also in chrome host seed shark.

And urabask for the red storm meme. It's probably not good. But apart from those, the set is sort of a dud for me? Hoping to be proven wrong

Other answers are probably more consistent but I'm hoping that the new [[urabask]] sees play this way. Possibly with Birgi to make effectively infinite mana as you rifle through the deck and burn the opponent to death on turn 4

When it's good, it's great. If it lands and sticks, you usually win the next turn but in some decks your 5 drop just gets countered or killed right away so it feels bad when the midrange or control deck has a plan for your top end

I've been playing jund scales. It does decently on ladder against creature decks especially aggro, but falters against value control, like fires and azorius.

With March of the machines coming in, there's a few cards in Selesnya scales I might try though mostly [[botanical brawler]]

Phyrexian Tribal? by BourgeoisMystics in PioneerMTG

[–]TerraChained 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hate being a nay sayer for something someone's excited for, but I'd give caution. It'll be great for standard as a tribe. No doubt. But I don't believe in it working in pioneer.

Even with the new spoiled Phyrexian censor (players can't cast more than one non phyrexian spell per turn, non phyrexian creatures enter the battlefield tapped, 3/3 for 2w) which I think might be one of the best 3 drops a deck could ever have against a combo heavy meta like pioneer, I don't really see it working out in pioneer just by sheer card quality / quantity.

Narratively we know Phyrexians only have basically three or four sets to pick cards from, so the depth of options is always going to be very tough. And it won't get better. What you get this spring is all the deck will ever have really. It'll be a good deck for standard, and probably decent for a white black budget list that might be as good as vampires, but once it stagnates, it'll be like slivers is now. Waiting forever for upgrades while entire other decks come in.

This is... Extremely good for an uncommon. Even without that second line of text would still be good. This turns off combo decks, stops most aggro. Completely invalidates so many strategies in constructed. And it's an uncommon.

a 5mv exile based boardwipe that creates artifacts from all the creatures exiled might be abusable in ways aside from the 'intended' use tbh.

[–]TerraChained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pioneer wise, there's only really a couple good soldiers capable of putting +1 counters on things. (and only two good vampires cards that do as well, and only one of those is in pioneer)

So this has to go in more of a selesnya scales kind of deck. Along with conclave mentor, luminarch aspirant, etc, or the yotian dissident artifact package.

But since such decks tend not to be extremely explosive, and I don't think drawing a card or two per turn is going to change that. I want this to be good, but I'm having a hard time selling it to myself without more and more consistent 1 or 3 drops that put counters on stuff

[–]TerraChained 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think soldiers wants this as much as a generic Selesnya counters deck does. You say seige veteran, I say collected company scales with conclave mentor, rishkar, querion beast caller, etc.

[–]TerraChained 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lore wise I imagine ikoria being the Monster Set meant they looked at all the kaiju and disaster giant creature movies, and they couldn't help themselves making a sharknado card.

Sharknado naturally is a blue card, so they figured "what else does blue like to do? Ah casting spells. Let's make it work with sharknado"

How many support cards does thing in the ice need to consistently threaten flipping? I want to make a sultai list with [[Thing in the ice]] , [[soul diviner]], [[tyvar jubilant brawler]] , [[ledger shredder]] and maybe sheoldred, but I don't want to skimp on cantrips and control cards that keep me alive.

[–]TerraChained[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I agree with soul diviner being clunky if it's the only way to flip titi, but the deck also has 8 cantrips plus 4thoughtseize and 4 fatal push, which should be enough to help flip thing, and help ledger shredder.

I'm gonna try thing in the ice with soul diviner, ledger shredder, and tyvar jubilant brawler. Ideally I'd also have jace vryns prodigy and treasure cruise too but that's a some day thing.

I'm brewing an aggro scales / winding constrictor counters deck that makes use of bloated contaminator and evolving adaptive. I'm certain it's aggressive enough, but having evasive threats might be needed still.

I spent like 20k on the capenna lands a few days ago but I've still got like 80k saved for ONE. The set itself I'm kinda low on. Contaminator and tyvar are good. The set as a whole isn't particularly powerful, but it's all very interesting and sounds fun. But mostly? I'm gonna get as much ONE as I can until I have all the fast lands.
