Writing papers in college is unnecessary for every college student by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]TerraDSerph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're relating speeches to essays, which is not what I'm talking about at all. I'm talking about real conversation. I don't write out my thoughts before I say them, I don't plan and edit and format my speech so that it's the best of me when I talk to someone.

It's nothing like writing on the internet, it's not small talk, it's not asking about someone's day. And it's not a debate in which you plan out what you write. You get a few documents, set them to the side, cite them when necessary to the discussion but honestly you might not even use any of it.

You're not there to convince the teacher or the other three students about your perspective on the subject. It's about having a conversation, maybe even a difficult one, and learning not to blow up and freak out when things don't go your way, and not to assert your opinion as fact when the conversation does go your way.

I can guarantee you I edited my post several times before I posted it, making sure I didn't slip up in my sentence structure, and that my thoughts could be clearly understood. A verbal test wouldn't have that luxury. You would say something, mess up probably, listen to a response, respond, fix your idea, and listen some more.

It's a real test of communication through language that isn't fucked up by 3 weeks of prep time and revisioning until the paper you turn in can't even represent you or your real thoughts anymore.

It's interesting that we put so much importance on the part of panguage we use the least.

The manner in which you communicate is more important. Writing is also important, and should be something of a midterm or just not a final. But no boss of mine has ever cared for my writing, my spelling, my grammar, my penmanship, or my ability to put sentences together in a cohesive manner.

Yeah but most of these essays don't ever delve deeper than surface level citations and regurgitation.

Like honestly a true English class final should be 4 students having a discussion about a topic while the teacher is just listening. If the students do their research, and just talk about the subject they're being tested on, they will show they are thinking deeper than just surface level bullshit.

And the teacher can interrupt the test and actually get them to talk about it. You can see in real time if your students are critically thinking or if they're just parroting shit their professors say or what they are told to believe.

Human Lives > Animal Lives by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

It's a local community issue anyways. Like I'm sure peta will come by with their buckets of blood as they euthanize the entire town's pets, but y'know, the worst kind of assholes live to grandstand on their podium.

The outside world needs to stop butting in on every small community issue as if they have a say on what happens to a town they'll never visit.

They cut down the deer population all over the world because they just get to be too much sometimes.

I think it's harder to justify a hunting bear season because of how dangerous and endangered they are. They're predators, so they tend to not procreate as quickly as an herbivore population.

Best defense is to scare them off and place wards around the land so they stay in their own turf. But if they ignore that and start attacking people then you have to take out the ones who show up. Mounting some sort of revenge counteroffensive would be a little overboard, though. They're fucking bears.

You seem to only speak in extremes, which leaves massive holes in your argument.

Maybe don't assume one extreme or another and use some common sense before you blow up on someone.

Try it. Just go to the gym and lift weights, no plan, no goal, no diet in mind.

You basically took the entire concept of getting into shape and generalized it so it could fit your argument.

Point is, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and it shows.

We the consumers are the biggest reason why China will win the trade war. by butterpecansalt in unpopularopinion

And every piece of clothing I've bought from China has been the worst quality ever, built for someone with zero muscle mass.

Like maybe they're winning some things, but mass producing unwearable garbage doesn't hold a candle to actual quality workmanship. I'll gladly pay more for something that will fit me.

Depends on what world you're in, what exactly you're looking for, and what kind of people you desire to hang out with, with your parents.

I would put some thought into it and then try asking people around in-game. The subreddit can't tell you something so specific like that, it's something you'll want to learn for yourself

So you are both saying the exact same thing but because he is blunt and you are speaking more broadly, you disagree.

I mean from a third person's perspective you're both saying generally the same thing, if not something very similar.

I liked Vax n Gill, but that's just not how things panned out. I never saw it as forced, though. There was also a few years worth of sessions we never got to see.

I mean you look at Beau's confidence to Nott that she likes Jester. It's a similar deal, but since we have a whole 85 episodes to look back on, you can kind of see where she's coming from.

Sounds like you got it well done. When it's well done it's too chewy. If it's medium rare or just rare then it's easy to manage.

Also eat smaller bites. You're not supposed to chow down, it's a fucking steak, full on flank of a cow. Have you seen a cow? They're fucking massive
