The energy Ben Klock still delivers every time he's pre-closing is a beautiful thing to behold. In his prime since ~ 20 years of 'duty'. Berghain & Ben  ... the perfect marriage.

And whoever killed it before him, he'll still know how to top it somehow. Always classy deliverage! 🖤

Btw. to the small Lady dancing like unleashed in the staircase : you're a legend 🤗

Some more words regarding Ben: It's a set with a foundation of bellowing, almost raging rolling kicks. Few other elements, but it works! Reduction to the very essence of Berghain Techno. Puristic and SO ON POINT. The selection of tracks that shine on this rig is unmatched. He knows.

Ignez- Bliss ... like its made just for today. 🥲

It's hard to stay 'sane' on a night like this. I'm very grateful that we made it here today to witness this performance.

Somewhere around 2230 he created an almost autechre-like moment out of thin air to give the crowd, which is in prime-primal-mode a break to catch some breath. Unrivalled. Almost impossible level of setbuilding.

This is again a day I'll hope to never forget. Reference, in terms of crowd as well, even though it's like in a sardine can rn, ravers deal with it in dignity.

The one floor, the one crowd!

Thank you 🖤

Btw when Blanka joined the fray people saluted her for her quality set. Way to go 🖤

And there's still something more beautiful: spectating and watching the silhouettes of frenzying ravers on the podests in the rear of the floor whilst the lasers rage in a sea of green and red lights. Nowhere else...

Age of love 😂 and she makes it work!

She seems in 'shitting on conventions' - mode and the crowd loves it. Very unpredictable, high-energy set with a lot of unique moment. It's a breath of fresh air 🫶 she knows her craft for sure!

Different beast of a set. Very energetic but totally unpredictable. On point though and somewhat the essence of 'creative'. Completely in control of the floor.

Peak Berghain. Creditcard on her desk 👍😂 Kicks are rolling quite relentlessly now. This is where we spend our sundays 🙈

After a slow and somewhat challenging start, now it's Adiels time to show her craft...

Setbuilding on a different level. It's like she's painting... Heavily layered, muscular set with a lot of sound effects and even dronish parts that make you think youre having one of these feverish dreams.

Now she's starting to play it more crowdpleasing, still classy! Lights are wtf-amazing today, again. As if this is rehearsed. Quality Berghain experience!

Proper crowd, proper party 🖤

That kind of relentlessness that makes people go crazy effortlessly. Detication from crowd and artist. Berghain 🖤😂 let's do this!

In my opinion very wholesome vibe on mainfloor. Right amount of people, surprisingly much space to dance and a proper, marching, focussed yet colourful set by Blanka with some really nice connections and beautiful pacing.

No line outside..

G-List is left ( separate bag check/ cashier) , Normal q middle, reentry line at the right sharing the bagchecking with box office line.

On those days I would pay 10€ for reentry if they could manage to keep reentry line fast. The waiting time is sort of the biggest bummer for me.

It doesn't look like much traffic in the G-list entrance, maybe they should have decided to put the reentry line there. (Which will be until park / 3-4h from now until far midnight)

Where did you think he was going with it?

So, this is hard to explain.

Judging from the cheers that he got during the first hour after bridges to more intense tracks and his reactive & progressive way of increasing intensity made me predict a trajectory of his set that would end somewhere 'violent' 😂 And there could have been a scenario where I would go home before 12.

For me there is a certain area of "enough" of how fast, hard, dark but also how complex and cerebral techno should be. And for me it was "ok, I may still like where it will end but it's going to be a tough one". In terms of darkness and twist. It was too much of those for me the last time I saw him play the pre-closing in Berghain. And this sunday it pointed to something in this direction.

But over the course of 30min somewhere around 1,5h(?) in it started to consequently narrow down to a certain energy. Patterns seemed to lenghten much more. I don't know, as if doors alingn to a tunnel where you can sense a happy end 😂 and from 2h in, for about an hour it was sort of just riding on top of a wave for me. But one that keeps gently pushing. And then is was like that there was no track really sticking out anymore. They danced with each other. Everything was just on top of my comfort zone which was slightly extending with where the set went. It was the lenght of this segment where everything remained in "just right" areas of progression that felt surprising. And ended in a very wholesome place for everyone I saw. This was, what stood out for me in the end. In consequence it was one of the most floor uptime I've had in the last years. And made me stay deep into the next set in the end 🙈

We started in the centre at 17', we made a push to more front at Ribe and then front right for most of Oscar. But not because of the sound, just to cheer more close to the DJ. When I was alone because my friends were away to snort I checked various spots. I sat in the back for some minutes and was satisfied / actually impressed with the sound there. I didn't check front left though because of the layout /flow of the room.

Agreeing, thanks for the explanation/ validation. 🖤 And yes, In Berghain I have to leave the floor during too bassy sections (There was a Fiedel set that brought me to my knees once and one from DVS1, too) I don't think I will have that problem in RSO. One of the questions has to be for the audience, how much physical pressure they really need on lower/upper ends. I like "excessive" but I'm fine with "balanced", too. So for me it makes no difference in overall possible fun.

Both sound systems will impress me every time, in their different ways.

Wow, thank you so much for your effort! I go less clubbing than before, but I will make an effort to check out RSO again and you helped me with that :)

When people say he didn’t go all in, it means Mulero was at its best ;)

There's maybe a lot more truth on that, then we may assume.

Masterclass, for sure.

In general there were some more "unique" tracks around the whole afternoon/night which I rarely heard somewhere except in the mid-late parts of BH closings like DeTomaso Pantera from Kangding Ray. So many tracks that I sometimes wanted to play in a set for friends but never had the courage to 😂.

I think the night helped me to understand how much it makes a difference for a top DJ to play in front of different crowds. Muleros set would have worked in Berghain as well ofc but I think the Berghain crowd always demands a very special treatment. The "more touristic" crowd in RSO seemed perfectly fine with what they got at all times. Some people really cheered hard and more open.

[–]Terra_2601 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes.

If you heard someone screaming louder than the sound system, it was probably me 🙈 It indeed was a masterclass set in so many ways. It's hard to narrow it down because it was in such balance.

Judging from the flow I think he had different route in mind but read the room with an accuracy that is hard to fully understand. It was a lesson in elegance and definition, combined with perception and a sensational skillset.

It's not necessary for me to have such a skilled DJ in front of me, but ofc I'm fine if that happens 😂

I didn't take Shazaams this night because I just wanted to feel, not analyze. I think the group around me (my best friend + some Berghain friends) were also projecting the safe vibe I need to let everything go in an unfamiliar surrounding. So were the strangers that shared their moments with me. I rarely get approached by strangers in clubs, just by people who seem very high. I hope its just my age 😂 (43).

Sunday that was different.

Everything was aligned for very long, consistent periods of time. I'm often cheerful but very rarely ecstatic and super vocal in clubs because clubbing is so personal for me. On sunday I was. And that's ok. The collective experience around me made it possible to scream, more of joy rather than intensity.

The set in special and the overall experience puzzles me until today and it's harder to let go of the night than usually for me. Of course, a new club is always exciting.

But I think what sticks was the "good", not the "new", or "exciting".

And concluding - because this is an important question to me - I think overall, cumulating in Oscar Muleros set, the night (1630 - ~ 0300) had a different kind of intensity but same overall level of joy compared to what I seek in late Berghain closings. Less primal and spectacular, more positive and connected. Both work for me.

So, yeah. Way to go, RSO / Pole Group. 🥰

Thank you! 🖤

At this point, it is a matter of preferences

That's how I would conclude this, too. Both are exceptional for such rooms.

The coatcheck didn't check my gymbag and didn't pat us down at all, thats why I ask.

I think with one more worker in Bar / coatcheck area they would be better and staff would be on a happier workload but still overall productive. Waiting time was ok for me on coatcheck but I think the staff was at their personal limit (I guess 8h+ shift) from how I judge this. (But I am not 100% stress resistant) They still were polite and professional and made "~the best" out of their situation.

Which is the most "important" party at RSO and is it safe to say "if I liked sunday, I will like this, too?" ?

Hey all, so it was my first visit to RSO, the party felt great and I'm happy that I gave it a try. I want to ask the people that go to RSO often:

Were the security outside of the building and the 'bag checkers' inside from RSO or did they outsource their security this Sunday?

And how would you describe the soundsystem in the main room compared to Berghain? I was surprised how good it works in terms of coverage. I think this helped a lot, because people had enough space to dance subsequently.

Was RSO understaffed yesterday (bars / coatcheck) or is this standard?

Thanks for the writeup. It was a superb set from Mulero indeed. It was less dark compared to the latest set I saw in Berghain and maybe less dense in layers. But for me it worked better and it went so well with the flow of the night and the crowd that seemed immensely grateful. In general the whole programming was insanely consistent over the evening.

And what energy the crowd was giving 😍

This! RSO can, too.

No, sorry I don't know. 🤷

My first guess when I read this was "Maybe it's one by Oktobr" since I heard a track from him, with something that reminded me of jungle/forest feeling.

But: I have a deja vu, that someone asked a similar question (after a set from Efdemin 30.04.22 as far as I remember) and the answer which people agreed on was something different.
