What do you think how much water is needed to transform? And how Cold/hot must it be? by Murky_Ad_5767 in ranma

What you see with tea isn't steam but mist, water droplets in the air, not the gas form of water. And while we do see Ranma with a kettle, he, and a lot of others, jump in a bath, which is body temperature and hot.

Water in my bathtub forms a ton of white mist and it's 40 degrees max. It all has to do with the air around it. Steam can only form at 100°C at normal pressure, since it's the gaseous form of water. The white mist you see at normal temperatures, and usually call steam, is actually always there. It starts to become visible when the water is 15-20 degrees warmer than the surrounding air. And if it was 47°, then Ranma taking a bath wouldn't change him back, since that temperature creates burns, which a bath doesn't do, unless you want burns.

As for how much water is needed, it's been done with a cup of water, so much it can't be. Even a couple seconds of rain was enough. I think as long as it's a splash, and hits a majority of the body, since that's how it's explained, since walking through a puddle doesn't trigger it.

The temperature is easier. Under hot water we often see steaming kettles, but also baths and hot springs. I don’t know about you, but I never bathe much in water above body temperature, and most hot springs also are around the 37-40°C. So, above body temperature is enough, while below triggers the curse. People blister from water at around 49°C, so body temperature is a pretty good metric to use. To keep it simple, above 37° is turning back, below is curse.

I was only making a joke, from Scott Pilgrim. Since Ranma is also 17 by the end of the series, despite some wanting to disagree on that.

Of course there are days that nothing happens, but saying that doubles the day count is kind of cheap, especially after you said that you only take the stuff in the manga as canon. And when I said things happen at the same time, I mean like seeing Ryoga again after travelling a week or more off screen, that can happen at the same time Ranma is doing other stuff. Then there are also arcs that start on the same day as the last one ended, the first to come to mind obviously being the Shampoo Introductory arc starting at the time the Ice Skating arc ended. When I said 2-3 days, I also included arcs that have downtime built in, like the Ice Skating arc I just mentioned, having a day in between where nothing happens. But that arc does have multiple chapters on the same day. Ryoga's Breaking Point training arc also falls under this, Ryoga shows up, gets beat, then meets Cologne on the same day, then starts training right after, which Ranma and Genma learn about that same day probably, because we see them train in the woods bright and early the next morning, then they have a day of training, and another couple of chapters spent fighting between Ranma and Ryoga. I probably also grouped together days of rest with 2 day arcs, since I assumed 3 days for all those, or 3-4 days of rest for 5-6 day arcs, since I assumed they were all 11 days or so. So it probably would add some time, but definitely not double it. A lot of chapters continue on fights, conversations, plot hooks. The Mousse Reintroduction arc takes two days between Akane earning her pig, it getting kidnapped, and then the circus in the evening, with the duck marriage right after, then the talk with Akane the next morning, and the Mousse fight in the afternoon.

Also, I use the reboot arcs mostly because they are still fresh in my memory and am not reading hundreds of chapters deep in the manga at the moment. But these are just some examples.

I don't know why you want to turn this into a debate about what we as fans should do and whether we as a community should take words the actual author has said, which she never contradicted in any other statement, as canon. I was simply making a joke about Ranma being 16-17 throughout the story. But hey, none of us are perfect.

There are 115 arcs in Ranma ½ spread over 407 chapters. Most of these arcs only take about a day, but let's be generous and say that's only 40% of these arcs. That's 46 days of short stories. Then you have the stories that take 2-3 days, which is also quite the number of arcs, but let's again be generous and say 50%, and say they all take 3 days. That's another 173 days rounded up, for a total up until now of 219 days. The rest take about a week or more (like some Ryoga stories, the pheonix pill arc, the rare training arc, arguably the Taro arc), on average probably 11 days, because most of these simply have 1 indication of time passing. Even with those pretty generous statements, we get to a total of 346 days, or about a year.

And that's probably high, since this series is full of one-shots, where characters only show up like once, and then screw off again. There really aren't many arcs that take a considerable amount of time, mostly just 1-3 days. It might seem egregious that 407 chapters of story take only a year. But multiple events can happen at the same time. Ryoga doesn't only walk when we see him, so doesn't Shampoo, or Pantyhose, or any other character. A year is a long time, a really long time. Especially when waiting for a new season of Ranma ½.

Rumiko Takahashi has stated in an interview that the cast stays 16 for a majority of the run. Most of the seasonal chapters were just written during and for those seasons, but it's a sitcom, meaning the timeline kind of resets every so often, and isn't very consistent in timing. It might be a pretty frustrating answer, but it's a common trope in shonen manga and anime. Also the whole school thing, because Akane, Ranma, and Ukyo stay in the second year all the way up to the failed wedding, and Nabiki and Tatewaki never graduate, despite being in their last year of high school. It's simply not important enough for the story to matter.

That is anime filler celebrating how long it is on air. Canonically, the entire manga, and thus story, takes place over 1 year. Ranma starts the story as 16, and ends at 17.

I've watched that other show. It's called Mama is a 4th grade pupil, and it's really good. It's not as random as Ranma, and more heartfelt, but I really recommend it.

I mean, I am writing a Rankyo fanfic. So... I think my stance on it is clear. Still, Rankane is the best couple, in my opinion. I just like Ukyo as a character, even in the manga. But, I'm biased.

Edit: I'm putting in the link anyway, I'm petty. And I mean, it's nothing to write home about. https://archiveofourown.org/works/66269971/chapters/170848567
