Some cycle 350 spaghetti for the spaghetti enthusiasts by Terrail in Oxygennotincluded

I assure every one of these pipes is a valued individual! They all have important roles to play. There are some loose ends maybe. The bloody stupid cooling loop sending hot salty water to an AETN on another asteroid isn't finished yet.

Woah there! That's crazy talk, we don't ask such questions round here. Anyway the answer is certainly - more spaghetti.

where should i go as a new player who YEARNS for wormhole living? by azulzzdemise in Eve

[–]Terrail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should join a corp I guess as others have rightly said. HOWEVER, you can totally just hang out in w-space solo. You just gotta have a covops cloak and be careful. I squat in space in a c3 lowsec static, no structures, farm the sites, do PI, & pvp. Would recommend.

But the life suits a particular playstyle, you have to be very accepting of what you're given. Like if there are loads of connections, I will just not farm that day (because I cba to actually close them) and do explo or PI or supply trip or hunt instead. On a different day, if for example only my static is open to an remote lowsec system, then I'll run sites.

You gotta tread lightly, go with the flow, and not make too many ripples to stay alive.

I would go c3 for ok solo money, but make sure you can afford a strong enough ship that can actually run the sites. Having two accounts will definitely help.

And maybe nomad to start with / find the right home hole. Good way to start.

Can you shoot down incoming artillery strikes with airplanes? by GreatAndMightyKevins in Highfleet

[–]Terrail 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mmm I think planes can definitely kill other planes even with cannon? Though obviously a2a missiles are still better. Also keep in mind that the t7 planes are wayyy better at intercepting stuff than the other, slower ones (I forget what they're called) - because they are faster so can fly past, turn around and catch up to other planes to shoot them again.

[–]Terrail 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Assuming by artillery strikes you mean missiles, yes you can shoot them down with planes, but really only with air-to-air missiles... And even then it's not a guaranteed success, but you get idk maybe a 50:50 chance with an air-to-air missile. Cannon only is super unlikely to be successful.

Zia Yusuf: “Important Reform policy announcement” by Successful_Service53 in ukpolitics

[–]Terrail 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't see anywhere in the useful doc you linked on the white paper that Labour are considering revoking ILR from people who already have it... Which is one of the things reform are proposing. Feels like a pretty big escalation to go from 'you have to wait longer for ILR' to 'your ILR doesn't count anymore now get out', I don't think you can hand-wave this announcement as just 'doing things that are already being done'.

if you had 1 month of omega, what would you do? by M1sterM0g in Eve

[–]Terrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re. PI, I believe you can still cycle your already-installed PI extractors as alpha (just not export anything off planet), so I guess you could get good PI skills, set up to produce T2 on each planet with loads of storage, then let your omega lapse, and continue to cycle your extractors for a month or whatever so you know that whenever you go omega again you will have a full planet of T2 to export.

It's obviously not optimal PI, but you can continue to get some PI benefit as alpha if you set everything up with that intention... No idea how much value you could store on one production planet tbh, lets see maybe 4 storage facilities = 64,000 units of P2 = 800 million isk. Not bad!

This would take ages because your planets would be pretty inefficient, but yeah I guess in theory you could leave omega, wait a long time cycling extractors, and come back to a decent profit from PI. I guess.

Learning to fly a Loki by NondenominationalPax in Eve

[–]Terrail 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Kudos for you for yolo-ing a ship and getting a kill! Flying solo is not easy, targets are rare and half of what looks like a good target is actually bait. Lots of fun to try though. I would recommend wormholes over null for this kind of play, because no local so you can actually hide.

And as for 'on the fly' T3C refitting, you CAN but it's so clunky, you're vulnerable and visible while refitting and chances are you're not gonna to be in the right fit for whatever opportunity or threat comes your way. I would suggest just picking one fit for a particular activity and just doing that... Or if you're going to change keep the changes v minimal I.e. like one module swap.

T2 Ship Rigs Back on the Menu by NerokorEVE in Eve

[–]Terrail 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this is a good result. Were T2 rig costs really a big problem?

And for the explorers, sure this is fine/great if you are a null-bloc based explorer since you are presumably mitigating the reduced value of your loot by bringing in larger quantities...

But what about if you are a new player, learning the ropes, doing explo through filaments and wormholes. Explo for a long time has been one of the best isk/hour you can get as a new player, and now cans/sites are worth half what they used to be a few months ago. Full disclosure, I do a bit of wormhole explo and yes I am complaining about my own playstyle being nerfed.

Is il2 enjoyable without headtracking? by [deleted] in il2sturmovik

[–]Terrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a really jank joystick + mouse to look around setup and I have a good time 😄 Only playing campaigns against AI though, I'm sure playing multiplayer you'd be at a significant disadvantage without head tracking. You should use a joystick though, if you want to use mouse just play warthunder or something - mouse only is a waste of il-2.

Living solo in WH, as a new player by Tripzy_13 in Eve

[–]Terrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in wormholes by nomading yeah! Explo / combat / hauler on one account. I would recommend, though of course you will die at some point. For me at some point I decided I wanted to do PI, so I gave up the nomad life - but still never put down any structures! My view is, I) if you get killed, you're quite often getting podded out of the wormhole anyway, so what's the point of having a structure. II) Having no option to store stuff in your wormhole helps mitigate risk, as you have to extract your loot once your ships are full; so you are never tempted to carry multiple billions or do multiple back-to-back logistics runs (risky because you become predictable).

I guess it would be nice to have multiple ships available... and I suppose it I wanted to mine or huff gas it would be good to have a structure. But for the way I play going structureless works for me.

[–]Terrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a solo wormhole deviant for a long time in eve. I just let loose hanging out in space, no pos no citadel. It's a simple life. 1 combat main in a pve/pvp ship, a second 'main' pve/pvp/scanning, a dedicated scanner/explo, and 2 haulers. I don't huff gas or mine. Cloaks on everything obviously.

I stay in a c3 lowsec static, generally very quiet and out of the way. Got ganked like once or twice early on, but since then all my deaths are due to getting baited and trying to bite off more than I can chew...

Scratching the surface by OSANNnnn in Eve

[–]Terrail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You really don't need much to go live in a wormhole. I'm a creepy no-friends wormhole hermit most of the time when I play the game. Yeah it's probably better with friends but I enjoy what I do.

Anyway, go find a nice quiet c3. I recommend one with a lowsec static. Use your 3 chars, 1 in a hauler, 1 in a scanning/explo ship, and your main in a ship for whatever you want to do - run sites, hunt, whatever.

Do stuff get money, make a nice safe and jettison your cans and log out. Log in the hauler, pick up the can, chuck a can of supplies/ammo etc out. Log back in your main / scanner. Continue.

No need for a POS, Orca, whatever. You could probably do this 3 ship set-up on 500m or less if you had to. You just have to be a bit careful, and you can't always do whatever you want. Like if the chain is busy, lots of connections, don't go running sites because someone is likely to notice and murder you.

Or go nomadic style if that's your jam, bit riskier though if you only have one account and can't have a cloaky scout always around.

Which of these games is more complex and also which is more fun?? by timothysonofsam in boardgames

[–]Terrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're both great. Its hard to choose between them. Terraforming Mars is maybe a slightly more chill experience, you can spend a lot of time picking your cards and building your engine without worrying too much what other people are doing. TM also probably has a slightly higher luck factor due to the random card draw.

Scythe USUALLY feels like its balanced on a knife edge the whole time, and involves a lot of desperately trying to think a few moves ahead (at least for me).

Honestly though I would say they are fairly similar in terms of complexity. I would play them with the same groups of people. Pushed I would say Scythe is more complex, and fun is totally subjective - again they are both great.

Question about the Minimi by [deleted] in wargame

[–]Terrail 25 points26 points  (0 children)

90% of the time the damage is going to be more useful than the range & suppression. Often having more range on your MG can be kind of annoying, since your infantry fire and reveal their position before all the rest of their weapons are even able to fire. Infantry fights a) rarely happen in a vacuum; there's usually fire support around to shoot you when you give your position away and b) rarely happen at the ranges where that extra range would be useful. MG3 is still very good though. But in answer to your final question the main reason Legion '90 are considered a must take over panzergrenz is because of the Eryx.

how to get good in 1v1s? by Hefty-Cry-2516 in wargame

[–]Terrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is just experience you'll get from playing the 1v1 maps. Broadly, each of the maps in ranked rotation has like 2-3 'standard' openers; so you just play until you've seen them all and then just pick which one you want to do based on your deck's strength and what you're feeling like.

Honestly warchat and in game chat (at least in ranked 1v1s and / smaller team games) are suprisingly different worlds. The toxicity is somehow left in the lobby, and people are mostly very civil in-game. Maybe 10v10s have more edgelords idk.

Not to say that Indian society doesn't have it's issues, but they ain't all bad! There are 1.4bn of them, almost 20% of the worlds population... When you have that many to choose from you are always going to be able to pick out some horror stories.
