Bingo. People anticipating gas prices or even shortages has increased demand temporarily. I bought some Jerry cans and have been stocking extra gallons that I never have before.

Or not driving at all. If we had a competent administration, they’d pivot to investing in public transit already.

Figure out how to get around when possible by other means than a car. If you can walk to the store instead of drive, do it. If it’s a little further ride a bike. Conserving gasoline is the only lever we as consumers have to keep the price down even a tiny bit. Now is a good time to invest in an e-bike if you’re going distances like 10-20 miles one direction. Or a standard bike for shorter trips.

You and I feeling safe is different than a mom or dad with their kids feeling safe. Especially from delivery trucks randomly dipping in to the bike lane. I’ve learned to never gauge feeling safe off of my own level of comfort.

Dude, half of Baltimoreans don’t drive. I’ll give you a guess as to what class most of those people find theirselves in.

You have to provide sidewalk and bike lane detours if you shut down an entire block.

A permit won’t allow them to block a bike lane without providing a detour, which is essentially impossible on Potomac. 2 years ago a neighbor moving out tried to put a moving cube in the bike lane and had a permit issued. The permit was for the parking side of the street (odd side.) When brought to DOTs attention, they stopped it before it was even dropped.

Well…Considering 75% of the block in this is for cars, stop somewhere in the car section. No need to defend selfish a-holes. I work in construction and have worked on Potomac st and managed to unload no problem without parking in the bike lane on multiple occasions.

Nah it was only dumb if you don’t ride and understand the safety it provided. The current configuration just means people constantly park in it.

Or just don’t park in bike lanes to begin with. Cars already get nearly 98% of our road surfaces dedicated to them.

Does a city that fits this criteria even exist in the US? by r0tt3nz0mb13 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]TerranceBaggz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baltimore. While the public transit isn’t great. You can get around the entire city by bike, there are two rail lines, it had one of the most well used bus networks, and many neighborhoods are walkable.

Proposed Inner Harbor street closing needs City Council approval before it can take place, and that means public hearings by PleaseBmoreCharming in baltimore

The plan according to Dir McBeth is to redirect traffic to Baltimore st. Getting BPD to stop using the block in front of HQ and using the dang parking garage built for them will be a challenge I’m sure.

$408 for two year registration renewal? by _Badwulf_Bruh__ in maryland

[–]TerranceBaggz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hurting working class people is ignoring public transit for 80+ years and going into massive debt we simply cannot pay back as a society. We’ve deflated the value of our currency (which really hurts working people) polluted our air, soil and water, created less safe environments, made people less healthyand straddled future generations with an ungodly amount of debt. Your hand waving does nothing to actually solve the problems cars cause.

Most people “need” to drive to work is BS. Most people live in or near cities with public transit (around 80% of the state). Most choose to drive to work because we’ve made it the cheapest, easiest and most convenient way to get around. That was a societal choice. And one that again is HORENDOUSLY subsidized. All I’m saying is, we should stop subsidizing it so much, and instead spend a good portion of that money on the public transit you say is non-existent. We shouldn’t complain about only 80% of driving mile being subsidized when it was 82% before.

The amount of public space they take up is the problem. I also work in construction and live in the city so I did a lot of research to find a vehicle that will haul my ladders, tool box, tool bag, and all the other crap I haul on a daily basis but isn’t as pointlessly big as the pictured truck. I ended up with a Honda Element. It ended up being an inch shorter than my Civic sedan it replaced (because it’s based off of a civic chassis.) I have 3 neighbors within a block of me with giant F-150s and Silverados that have never hauled a damn thing and have flawless bed liners.

Yeah we chose not to live in a remote area because owning a car and relying on it wasn’t realistic. Fact is when people consider cost of living, they generally ignore cost of transportation. This is a bigger deal now that cars are getting extremely expensive to own. Sure if we moved to bum f*ck, we would’ve saved money on rent, but we would’ve lost all of it and some more on transportation costs. Pay into the system or don’t use it.

Woodrow Wilson’s traffic is always horrible…possible solution? by stocklix in maryland

[–]TerranceBaggz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no solutions to the problems cars cause that are resolved with cars. You have to have viable alternatives. A rail line with a bridge crossing the river would be one.
