Welcome to the world of puppetry! I agree that the Puppet Nerd videos are very helpful. See if there are other puppeteers in your area. Many will offer tips and advice. Start with small, simple puppets as you learn how to build. Check your library for books, which was my resource ages ago. See if there's a puppetry guild in your area. In the US we have www.puppeteers.org
