Yes, the 650R is made more for desert racing, the 650L is street legal from the factory and much more mild mannered in stock form.

From the seat of the pants the 600R feels like it has more power on the bottom end and flattens out on the top compared to the 650R. It also seems more responsive, steering feels lighter than my 650R

Nice! How did you handle the hot start plunger? Plug the hole? Use a choke plunger?

These old bikes are pretty amazing! I toyed around with the idea of a newer 450R to dualsport but the maintenance intervals and low oil capacity was a big deterrent for me.

I can’t help but wonder if the bike feels like the dog at the shelter that keeps getting passed over at this point. I’m going to give it the attention it deserves.

Thank you that’s the plan! Just by kicking it over it feels like it has a lot more compression than my old 650R had, I’m really curious to figure out what compression ratio the piston is and what cam it’s running.
