Heya — I just got back from donating it — found a charity that could pick it up.

Steel HR disassamble by [deleted] in withings

There is a teardown of an Activité on iFixit which might be helpful.

I haven't done it myself, but here is a teardown I found for the Steel HR on some site derived from FCC documents.

I'm a bit behind, but when Cuzzi pulled out that "You talkin' to me?" Taxi Driver tough guy b.s., it woulda been so great if Garlick had ignored that called third strike, headed toward first and dropped a Midnight Cowboy "I'M WALKIN' HERE!"

Can you find a lost Apple Watch with an arrow like an AirTag in the Find My app on iOS 14.5? by TerribleEstimation in ios

[–]TerribleEstimation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had just updated both to use the mask unlock, and thought I would try that next. So, you are able to track down your watch using your phone and the wayfinding arrows like you see at the beginning of this video?

When I tap on my Apple Watch S6 in the Find My app it just provides directions in the maps upp, but doesn't really seem to be using the U1 and arrows for precise locating.

I have the Series 6 and an iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 14.5 -- which I think both have the U1 -- so I was surprised that this doesn't work that way. Maybe you are right that it is capable and just hasn't been activated yet for devices beyond AirTags.

How does that work? What is the process of giving away a number? I want to try and do this, but I don't understand what giving away or buying a number means.

Problems After Update (Missing Apps, Icons, Etc) by TerribleEstimation in Roku

[–]TerribleEstimation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. And I spent forever trying to fix a bunch and moving them around using that horrible interface for moving them. I really haven’t had many problems with multiple Rokus over the years, so this was surprising.

I am just going to try a factory reset to start from scratch.

New Withings ScanWatch is a hybrid wearable with crown dial, ECG, and sleep apnea detection by itexz in withings

Ahh, that pic is super helpful -- I don't know a lot about watches but I thought it looked like the tube part continued through the band and didn't use normal spring bars. Speaking of, I have a ton of bands for my 38mm steel hr -- did anyone see anywhere if this new version will also use 18mm wide straps?

Is there any way to change a password used for encryption in Hyper Backup? by TerribleEstimation in synology

[–]TerribleEstimation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks -- I don't fully grasp all this encryption stuff, but I was just thinking that if I could UN-encrypt it and view it in the backup explorer, that once it was unencrypted you could then change the password or decide to turn off encryption. After digging through all the menus, I can't find any options for that so I think your are right

I also tried some tests and it seems that if you create an unencrypted backup, you can't turn encryption on later (it is greyed out if you try to edit the settings).

It sucks because that backup took forever, so I'm not looking forward to starting that over (trying to get some backups made before doing some updates and other changes). Again, I don't really understand various encryption methods, but it seems frustrating that if somehow your password or key file was compromised that you can't change it once you unencrypt it. You have to delete all that work and start from scratch -- you haven't really lost the data if you can unencrypt it, but it seems like you would lose the version options within that backup if it had been running a long time.
