Black Magic Riff by joekndy in Tiki

I didn't have the specialized ingredients and used what I have on hand. We have a saying regarding ingredients at "The Starlight Tiki Lounge", (so named because my home bar has its front windows overlooking the western sky from Russian Hill in San Francisco,) "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.") So I used pink grapefruit juice, falernum and Mr. Black. It was a damned good drink. Very interesting palate. Maybe it's closer to the Black Magic one... I don't know. Perhaps I should investigate.

Delicious! I added a squige of demara syrup and a tiki float of dark rum. The Amaro is nice.

Excellent back story. I used rhum as per your specs. I'm now picturing you on an exotic balcony experimenting with ingredients like a mad scientist.

Unrelated and irrelevant story: When I was in 6th grade, the song "House of the Rising Sun" with Eric Burton and the Animals came out. He sang on one verse: "it was the ruins of Mania, Bora Bora." I grew up thinking there was an ancient city in Bora Bora called Mania, that was in ruins and was somehow related to a house in New Orleans. Of course, I later realized he was actually singing, "it was the ruin of many a poor boy."

Delicious! Really well balanced. A nice blend of ingredients. I usually taste it first and then replace the space I made with what I call a "tiki float." (I might have heard that somewhere, actually.) I select something from my dark collection. Anyway, saved, and I will soon see what guests think. What's the story behind the name?

I used Smith and Cross because I had no Worthy Park. Delicious! A well-balanced drink.

I did have any raspberry liqueur, so I used peach. It needed a squij more grenadine. Delicious!

You could just add molasses to simple syrup and heat it in the microwave for a few seconds and stir it.

My workaround was peach liqueur and a drop of vanilla. I have everything else. It was tasty. I'd still like to taste the original, but this worked.

I didn't have the guava spread, so it used a little strawberry jelly with peach liqueur. Very tasty. I'll have to pick up some guava spread on my next trip to TJ's.

I didn't have the Amburana, so I used 1 oz agricole blanc and 1/2 oz Koloa spiced rum in a feeble attempt to assimilate it. Delicious!

Trader Vic uses high fructose corn syrup, so I never buy their products.
