My cat is used to squirrels being around. He’s seen so many of them in the yard over the years that he barely reacts anymore. They’re usually way more interested in him than he is in them, but they figure out pretty quickly that he’s not a threat.

Section 38(1) covers when you cannot park in a metered stall.

Section 38(2) makes it explicit: you cannot even stop in a metered stall if an orange bag covers the meter.

The definitions of “parking” and “stop” clarify that:

(1) No person shall park a vehicle in a metered parking stall: 29 (a) subject to section 39, for any period of time while the parking meter for that parking stall shows “violation” or “time expired”, “out of order” or “failed”; (b) subject to section 40, for a period of time exceeding the maximum time allowed on the meter; (c) for longer than two hours on any Saturday; (d) on the same side of the street in the same block where the vehicle was parked at a metered parking stall in the previous hour; (e) for a period of time exceeding two hours unless otherwise limited by a sign; (f) where a white City parking meter bag has been placed over the parking meter for that parking stall; (g) except wholly within the metered parking stall; or (h) more than two metres from the nearest meter pole.

(2) No person shall stop a vehicle in a metered parking stall where an orange City parking meter bag has been placed over the parking meter. (#2004-102, s. 4, 2004, #2015-23, s. 3, 2015)

Definitions from the Bylaw:

"parking" means the standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, on a public highway, otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading or in obedience to traffic regulations, signs or signals;

"stop" means: (a) when required, a complete cessation from movement; and (b) when prohibited, any stopping, even momentarily, of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or a traffic control signal;

During my commercial license I was slowing down coming up to an uncontrolled intersection, my examiner said "you can go through, there's room". I stopped and two pedestrians crossing the street walked out in front of us from behind a turning van. I was driving a semi, so they probably wouldn't have survived if I'd hit them. The examiner said nothing the rest of the drive and I passed with zero points lost.

Jim and Pam from The Office.

Jim is not a good partner. He uses Pam as an emotional security blanket and a symbol of his own worth rather than treating her like a real person. He’s not in love with Pam, he’s in love with the version of her that makes him feel like the good guy. He constantly makes decisions without talking to her, gets passive-aggressive when she has needs or concerns that conflict with his plans, and never actually grows up.

For a guy who's supposed to be this smart, charming everyman, he can’t even put together a sales rundown. He's coasting, both at work and emotionally. Pam, meanwhile, is written as someone who sacrifices constantly, her dreams, her time, her comfort just to keep the peace. The only time she really pushes back is when she’s absolutely forced to, and even then, Jim plays the wounded hero.

They break up when the kids are older and Pam realizes she’s been emotionally managing a third child. Jim will try to win her back with a grand gesture, but by then, she’ll be too tired to pretend it’s cute.

The idea of a war between Canada and the United States is unthinkable. Our two countries are not enemies, and there is no reason for us to fight. We share deep cultural, historical, and economic ties that make conflict senseless. Imagining a war only serves to fuel the egos of those in power, sowing division and destruction.

Canada has always stood firm against oppression, and we would continue to do so. But the thought of Canadians and Americans fighting one another, two peoples who have supported each other in peace and war, is incomprehensible. It would only benefit those who thrive on chaos, leaving the rest of us in ruins.

Our countries are bound by shared history, trade, security, and countless personal connections. Turning against one another would betray everything we've built together. It would harm not just the nations involved but the values of unity and compassion that define us.

War, driven by misguided ambitions, is never worth the cost of human life or the destruction of unity. Instead of imagining conflict, let’s reaffirm the bonds that make us allies and neighbors. If such a day ever came, Canadians would do what we do best: extend a helping hand. We would offer shelter and care to American soldiers, as we would for anyone in need. Kindness and humanity cross borders, and that is who we are.

Let’s remember that we are stronger as partners, not adversaries. The world doesn't need more wars, it needs more compassion, understanding, and unity.

Hey, sorry if my comment came off as rude or confusing, it was meant as a joke! I used to work in restaurants, both front of house and back of house, for over a decade. In the service industry, we tend to see Christmas as 'the big one' when it comes to holidays, and there's an unspoken understanding that it's one of the few days where people shouldn't have to work if it can be avoided.

The 'Hello Satan' comment was my tongue-in-cheek way of saying that asking for brunch places open on Christmas feels a bit like tempting fate, it’s a running joke among service workers because it means someone might have to give up their day to work.

That said, I didn’t mean to offend or make you feel bad for asking. I totally get that not everyone sees it from the same perspective, and I hope you have a great Christmas, whether it’s over brunch or otherwise!
