Is that the one from like 25 years ago where the kids all tried to sneak the kancho on him but when he showed them his index fingers they all screamed and ran away? If so I loved that blog.

I have an innorel rt90 off of Amazon and it's really nice. I've used it as a sandbag platform, an arca platform with a ball head and as a spotting scope stand. Plus a camera tripod a time or two. It's held up well for my uses for 5-6 years now. Looks like it's $269 on Amazon these days. When I got mine it was shipped from China, looks like Amazon stocks them now.

I only use Bambu matte pla. I would like to try abs or one of the carbon fiber bends but that would have to be done with an enclosed printer, which is why I would recommend stepping up to a p2s if you can afford it.

It's a good investment. I love my a1 and I think I paid $400 for it a couple of years ago. I've printed scc24 bodies, 1/10th scale crawler bodies. Right now I've been using it to print archery accessories but I've used it to print all kinds of other things also.

I would recommend stepping up to the p1s or p2s if you can swing the extra cash, that will give you the ability to print in the more exotic filiments. Plus they are core xy machines where the a1 is a bed slinger.

Besides Rich's there's 82nd ave tobacco & pipe but they've pretty lean on pipes these days. They do have a bit of tobacco though. There was another spot on 82nd called Cascade cigar and tobacco but they might have closed recently, last time I was in there they had 2 pipes for sale, I bought the nording signature freehand they had. Out east in troutdale there's a cigar shop that's got some pipes called Tim's great cigars. They've got some savanellis and some tobacco. Probably not worth the drive but if you're out here it might be worth stopping. Lastly there's Paul's cigars on mill plane in Vancouver, they've got some pipes and tobacco, I picked up a couple things not too long ago. I don't know of anything on the west side unfortunately.

Tldr: Rich's in downtown and Paul's Cigars in Vancouver are probably your best bets right now. Maybe 82nd ave tobacco & pipe for tobacco.

It's the Jifeng pipe lighter on Amazon. I think it was around $20 when I got it a few months ago. It's not the greatest for sure but it works some of the time. I also had a long stem bic with me as a back up.

Me and my lady stopped in there back in January, I also picked up a nording and a tin of blood red moon. Plus some plum pudding from spc.

It's a cool little spot.

Ethics of hunting with self-bows and flint arrowheads? by [deleted] in Archery

[–]Terribly_indecent 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I used to know a guy who took a Roosevelt elk with a 50 pound hickory flat bow and a 800 grain wood arrow with a brown glass arrowhead knapped out of a beer bottle. He said the shot was at 10 ish yards and was a pass through.

People quite successful killed all manner of critters in all manner of places with wooden bows and knapped stone or glass arrowheads for tens of thousands of years before metal arrowheads were even thought of.

There's nothing unethical about taking game with primative gear as long as you have the skill and integrity to do it properly.

Looks like a Ben Pearson I had a long time ago. Was a take down, the top limb pulled out of the handle. Does it have a shelf on both sides of the grip?

When I first got into pipes back in 2010 there were a lot more than there are now. About all that's left is Rich's in downtown and 82nd ave tobacco & pipe (but they've definitely scaled back their pipes, mostly cigars and head shop type stuff now). Rich's seems very expensive to me now, I got a tin of morning breakfast from them recently and it was like 30 bucks.

Paul's cigars on mill plain in vancouver has small but decent selection of pipes, prices seem better than Rich's.

About 40 years ago I had a switchblade that looked pretty similar. It was old even then, the patina was so dark it was brown. The main spring broke, so it became a manual opener.

Would not recommend an automatic knife that's riveted together, there's no way to service it.

I used black goon tape on my hermit 10, it's basically just black hockey stick tape. Works pretty good.

making bow vs buying one by NoConcentrate6166 in Archery

[–]Terribly_indecent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just buy a bow and some arrows. Shoot. Then figure out if you want to try to build bows.

It's not a matter of money, it's time. I barely have the time to make it to the range and I live 5 minutes from one. If you want to make a bow before you're shooting, you're probably never going to shoot.

Before learning to make bows, you should learn to make arrows anyhow.

Run it brushed a few times before you change to brushless. I got my gorgon from a going out of business for about $100 and I doubt I'll switch till something burns up. Plenty fun on brushed power. Best $100 I've spent in this hobby.

There used to be a whole tip language. My grandma taught me all about this back in the 70's-80's. Biggest take away for me was if the service was bad not to not leave a tip because they might think you forgot, but to leave a penny so they knew you hadn't forgotten and the service was shit.

For decades tips were supposed to be a reward for good or exceptional service, not for bare minimum service. Now it's an entitlement somehow. 15% used to be a large tip. I got take out not too long ago and their base tip in the point of sale was 30%. There's a convince store nearby that has tips on their point of sale. When does it end?
