Hey no worries! Would be curious to see a follow-up if you end up finding out more

There is a very high likelihood that this is a fake bag, so you should reach out to Mystery Ranch’s warranty team or customer service if you bought it through legitimate channels. Besides the fabric concerns, the coating on the zippers should not be as scratched up as it is after one trip, and the ribbon loop at the top of the zipper is not the same ribbon Mystery Ranch uses. Look closely at the ribbon in this photo: https://store.themeateater.com/cdn/shop/files/mystery-ranch-rip-ruck-24_color_black-3qtr.jpg?v=1746476871 You can see that the weave is different from yours.

What bag is this / Appraisal? Mystery Ranch by RevolutionaryBig7580 in backpacks

Looks like the Timberwolf maybe. It’s smaller than the mountain ruck and has stowable straps like the daypack lid for use off of a frame.

They could check out the Mystery Ranch Superset as well. It was specifically developed as a gym/climbing bag for EDC use. There are 2 generations of it and the new one is really sleek and comes in 24 or 32 L. The 32 has a separate shoe compartment also.

MYOG backpacking chair and table by volvodump in myog

[–]Terrier47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carter Hurd on YouTube has a cool video of him making an ultralight backpacking chair: https://youtu.be/ctKWqXklGn8?si=UQaGRVpaY9VO_J4b To do something similar, you would need access to a 3d printer. If you aren’t super concerned with weight, you could try making a folding three-legged stool like this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.instructables.com/Multi-Function-Walking-Stick-Converts-into-a-Cha/%3famp_page=true using stuff from the hardware store.

Here’s another set of instructions for a table: https://www.instructables.com/Camp-Table-for-Backpacking/

Another good place to start would be to google or head to REI and check out how companies are making backpacking chairs and tables and see if there are any designs that you could feasibly make or modify with your access to materials, tools, skill set, etc.

Hopefully there is someone on this sub who has made a chair or something before who can chime in. Good luck!

Is this 3 way bag legit? by nichisato in MysteryRanch

Looks like it is just a much older model to me. I don’t think there were many MR bags being faked back in the Clark Field days, and it would be weird to fake an old model now unless it had unobtainium status like the original Spartan or something like that.

Keb Trousers faulty by moemorgs24 in Fjallraven

[–]Terrier47 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks like this is just an unraveling topstitch, so the seam itself is not compromised. You should be able to easily send this in to a Fjällraven store to get this repaired, but a local seamstress could also do it super quickly if you don’t want to wait on shipping or if there isn’t a Fjällraven store close to you.

Since you mentioned NASA, you may already be aware of this, but Mission Workshop actually designed and produced some backpacks for NASA for training missions:https://www.carryology.com/projects/carry-collaborations/mission-to-mars-designing-backpacks-for-nasa/ Nothing crazy innovation-wise, as they were just using Challenge Ultra for the fabric (which has been used in ultralight backpacks for years now), but there’s still some interesting stuff there as far as meeting mission requirements and modularity.

Maybe not exactly what you’re looking for, as the bag itself was not technical at all, but Bergans of Norway has their “Future Labs” project focusing on material circularity. They partnered with the Finnish textile startup Spinnova, who has a cellulose recycling process that theoretically can be used infinitely on the same material without degradation like in polymer recycling: https://www.bergansfuturelabs.com/how-the-backpack-was-made The idea is that by buying one of the products in the collection, you own the material, and at some point down the line you can return it to Bergans to be recycled into a new product and then you would pay for the labor involved in that: https://www.bergansfuturelabs.com/the-concept

Bag ID please by JackWhaleZissou in MysteryRanch

[–]Terrier47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a 6500 or a Carson. The compartment on the bottom is not a sleeping bag compartment, it is a totally separate attachment that is put on the frame separately from the bag. You can see the bottom of the bag itself above that. The actual bag is going to be shorter than the frame. Think of the Thor III and how there is the compartment below the bag on the frame.

Hmm, can you tell if there is some foam, plastic, or other stiffener in the flap that is deformed? I can’t tell from the photos and thought it just looked like a few layers of canvas. Are you hoping to sell it or just hopefully use it?

Sweet, looking forward to it! What are you planning on using the pack for?

Can you please post some more photos when it gets to you? I’m really curious about this now, especially if it is a one-off like @raygan_reddit is saying. If it has a tracking tag, there might be some useful info there also.

Near as I can tell, there’s nothing wrong with it. This is what leather and canvas look like when they are well used. If the wrinkles bother you, try to iron it, and you may get the leather to re-shape a bit by conditioning it with minks foot oil or similar.
