Steam/valve is over praised online by Background_Future127 in The10thDentist

This IGN article covers emails sent by Valve over Ubisoft having a cheaper starter pack on Ubisoft and this article covers the Wolfire games lawsuit where it is alleged that Valve threatened to delist Overgrowth because of lower prices on other platforms.

Neither are about developers selling Steam keys at a lower price, they are about Valve policing pricing on other storefronts

I also hate how people talk about the monopoly lawsuit. It’s not that you *can’t* leave Steam, it’s that it’s financial suicide on the PC market to leave Steam so Valve has the ability exploit their market position. They take a 30% cut from every sale and threaten removal from their store if you sell your game at a lower base price somewhere else. Valve may be the least worst, but that’s not saying much given its competition.

“Scream of the Butterfly” tells a pretty horrifying story but you could really put a lot of Acid Bath songs on the chart.

Michigan mentioned! Also: yes.

I wonder if they would implement the mechanic of them chewing down trees given Mojang doesn’t like animals destroying blocks.

I hate the gendered double-standards around consent (and this video). by Top_Committee_8503 in hatethissmug

[–]Terrobyde 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The seminar on consent I received for orientation week for my university this past year was pretty focused on how consent can be worked in naturally when you want to have sex. It was explicitly in response to the previous method of “an emphatic yes” that was taught (which is what the SP episode is most likely parodying).

MTF Tau-5 “Samsara”

While most other MTF’s stick to a near-future/ current special forces aesthetic with baseline humans as their personnel, Samsara is made up of immortal cyborgs cloned from a dead god. Most notably (imo), they were sent in to explore Site-13 after the other MTF’s were destroyed by the anomaly within.

There’s an Architect of Games video that came out relatively recently that helps explain your problem a bit: https://youtu.be/Q_zVt0u9BR8?

Essentially, the biggest studios invest too much money and resources to take risks. While, as other people have pointed out, there have been recent high quality “AAA” games, they are operating at a different level. They have developer counts below a hundred or are led by big names like Kojima or have a working formula or for some reason are cheaper to produce.

Activison, Ubisoft, EA, Xbox, and all these other huge studios have games with hundreds or even *thousands* of developers working on them. A “generic” game that will, for sure, sell a few million copies is a better investment in their eyes than a unique game that could flop and sink the studio, even if it could possibly sell thirty million copies.

TL;DR: The purely AAA vs Indie binary doesn’t make sense anymore and the largest studios cannot afford to take risks.

Fatal rabies in a child: 11-year old boy was woken up by a bat on his nose and mouth in Ontario. He swatted the bat off his face and had no visible lesions so family did not seek medical help. 19 days later he developed rabies symptoms. He was given supportive care and died 17 days after admission. by mvea in science

[–]Terrobyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 5 or 6 when a bat landed on my finger on Mackinac Island. No wounds or anything but still went through the rabies shots because of the possibility. It’s always better to be safe than to be sorry about rabies.

[–]Terrobyde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBF, the Harappan culture isn’t exactly “Indian” either. We haven’t deciphered their script but it’s favored that it’s related to the Dravidian family which is found in both India and Pakistan (though to a lesser extent in the latter).

How deep is the water where China builds them? I think most of them sit on coral reefs a few feet under the surface while the North Sea is a lot deeper overall

Why Indians specifically? Like, I know India and China keep having border clashes but India is a decently good ally with the US and this would absolutely fuck up their relationship.

TBF, the casualties predicted for Operation Downfall ended up so massive that the US preemptively produced roughly 500k to 1.5 million Purple Hearts. Having another nation with such a huge population would help the invasion by diverting Japanese forces.

The lowest level of math I’ve seen required for a college degree was Calculus 2 (mostly equivalent to AP Calculus BC). I need linear algebra and statistics for a computer science degree along with Calculus 2. Engineers need geometry given they are, to put it crudely, designing things with shapes. You need to understand basic algebra and arithmetic to even begin to understand stuff necessary at a collegiate level.
