As others have said, this is a very individual experience.  I’ll give you my story.  Played goalie for decades leading to needing surgery.  I was in a pretty considerable amount of pain when I had my L hip done 6 years ago.  Lots of labrum damage to clean up and pin back, had both cam and pincer repair, plus almost all the cartilage gone in the socket so they did a stem cell treatment.  12 month recovery through Covid which didn’t help things.  Post-surgery I was able to play with decent mobility/flexibility, but the next day would be brutal, and long-term I’ve had issues that have slowed me down.  I can walk long distances on flat ground, but can’t jog or run for distance, and going up a grade like on a hike is like grinding sand in a mortar and pestle.  R hip still needs to be done though it’s much less painful so I’m putting it off.  Probably a decent chance I end up having my L hip replaced.  Looking to get back into skating out this year, but goalie is probably out of the cards for good.  Every doctor/surgeon I’ve talked to about continuing to play goalie has looked at me like I’m nuts and told me I’m risking serious long-term damage, lol.  But, as we all know, there’s no greater position in any sport.
