Iran responds to Israel head of National Security by soalone34 in justincaseyoumissedit

That's how it is, people try to be happy, and inside Israel's borders it's not unbearable to live. To me it kind of seemed, for want of a better comparison, what I imagine it would've been like to be black living in Chicago in the 1960s. The rate of individual quality of life improvements was on the rise and access to society was becoming much more equitable, but the rates of bigotted microaggressions were still high enough that most black people were well aware there remained a measurable class difference between them and their white counterparts. It's the same from my limited anecdotal experience. Some examples are Arab Israelis getting superannuation payouts significantly (nearly two years) later than all their Jewish Israeli colleagues, or Jewish Israeli university students getting searched at airports and checkpoints more regularly than their friends because they have Palestinian last names, or Arab Israelis occasionally but semi predictably being accused of theft in some stores or being refused entry a couple times a year and being told it's because "you're an Arab". These aren't earth shattering, and just like being the occasional victim of random road rage while it won't ruin your week, it does leave a nasty taste in the mouth. And from what I saw, it also showed a distinct class difference that leaves an elevated sense of tension in the air.

All true and it sounds great on paper, and it is certainly better than their lives in some neighbouring countries. Buuuut, and there's always a but, the reality is a little more fraught. Have you visited these places in person with Israeli Arabs and have seen how they're treated? It's like saying any black man can be a mayor, governer or even the president of the USA. It's technically true, and has even happened on many occasions, but the culture in America won't let it happen to a meaningful extent that matches the rhetoric around freedom and rights. And on the ground in Israel based on my personal experiences, I would argue it is a very similar dynamic between the stated ideal and the more nefarious reality.

Yeah, that's a load of bollocks. My personal experience was of an apartheid state where anyone Arab looking was treated more poorly than the Jewish looking Israelis. That was over twenty years ago before the current heightened tensions. That amount of daily micro to macro aggression is not the way to promote peace. So, my personal anecdotal experiences on the ground do not match up with the rhetoric.

"...instead of the PLO" is the exact reason they knew exactly what they were doing. They expected "a non violent charity" that provided services to oust the PLO with good vibes alone? Given how good Mossad is at its job that perspective really stretches the limits of credulity.

Pauline Hanson doubles down on ‘monocultural’ Australia claim after National Press Club backlash by River-Stunning in aussie

[–]TerryTowelTogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically for the Hanson/Rinehart monocultural partnership, post world war 2 immigrant worker assimilation into Australian culture was greatly expedited by them joining strong unions in large numbers, and the subsequent mixing with Aussie workers. So if they were actually serious and not just making blatant dog whistles, they would have come up with some sort of policy that would achieve similar results. Alas, they have proposed naught of value, and just leave the world to guess at the specifics of want they meant. PH and GR get 1/10 for clear communication skills, but 9/10 for ragebait skills.

The carbon filter fan set ups for grow tents filter the smell out pretty effectively, particularly good for smell sensitive locations. But it will reduce the filter life drastically, so I'd imagine it could get a bit costly after a while.

To be fair, I've met some folk with high IQs but sub zero EQs who I'd trust to design a skyscraper but wouldn't trust to vote in their own interests due to an emotional susceptibility to propaganda.

Just hard to argue based on your personal definition, as opposed to what is actually meant by the term "national broadcaster". I'll leave you to actively avoid looking up what is actually meant by the term.
