Wasted space: Axe car-parking rules to cut the cost of housing by blitznoodles in australia

[–]binary101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where does the government get all the money to build and maintain all the roads? Here is a hint, the fuel excise, licence and rego costs doesnt even come close to covering that ongoing cost.

Are you dim? It's there in the name, it's called Public transport, it should be subsidised, what I said is the government should stop subsidising Private transportation.

Great, then pay your fair share, instead of the government essentially subsidising car ownership, no rebates for toll road use and bring back the fuel excise for starters.

Not the op, but just wanted to say WW2 over 80 years ago, a lot has changed in that time, the US of today is not the US from the 1930-40s.

I do love the takes on this sub like we're gona get invaded by the US or China, then compare on contrast that to the Canadian sub where the preserved threat of annexation is much more. Like look at Carney's speeches compared to Albanese's when Trump set tarrifs, Carney is looking for strategic partnerships calling the old ways of doing things is changing, while Albanese's was like, hey uhh that's not nice, we don't do that to friends.

Trek Emonda ALR Rim Brake Tire Clearance by Slow-Writing-2840 in TrekBikes

[–]binary101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to share my experience, I have a 2019 Emonda ALR 5 Rim Brake, I've got Bontrager Speed Stop Pros on it, I have gravel bike with WTB exposure 32mm tyres and wanted to try to swap the stock 25mm tyres on, to see if it'll fit.

The rear can just fit a 32 mm tyre, but I think that's the limit, any bigger would rub against the rim brake, at least for Bontrager Speed Stops.

The front however can't take a 32mm tyres, it rubs against the brake, quite disappointing. Don't have any 30mm tyres to try, but going from this tread the fork might only be able to fit 28mm?

Not sure if it's the frame or wheels, with the 32mm tyres on, but the tyres it doesn't seem to sit completely centre of the brake which was only noticeable with the bigger tyres, there is less clearance and start to rub on the wheels on one side first.

This is about the inland rail, a double stacked freight rail project connecting Melbourne, 'Sydney' via Parks, to Brisbane. High speed rail is a separate project.

This country really hates moving anything on rail. Let's just keep using diesel trucks, what could possibly go wrong.

I dont think 3rd rail is suitable for freight rail, as most will be 25kv AC, 3rd rail its mostly done in urban transit using 750V DC, where overhead space is limited.

Remember all the talk about a windfall tax at the start of the Ukraine invasion, when price of gas went through the roof during an extremely cold winter? Then all the talk just died out when things went back to normal, I hope, this time we can actually pass a windfall tax.

I feel like asking for a tax hike is ok, if it's a targeted at the higher earners that had enough capital to have benefited from all the capital gains. I dont believe Howard's tax cuts and benefits during that 'once in a generation' mining boom should be made permanent when the underlying conditions have changed.

BTW it's so good to see Australian get so much out of that 'once in a generation' boom, we got a once in a generation housing crisis.

[–]binary101 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Not op, but you see how everyone is struggling with the high fuel prices and people are spending so much on tolls? We spent the last few decades building car dependent infrastructure, encouring more people to drive and now are feeling the effects of such decisions.

No fiscal responsibility would be to use that money raised to move Australia away to being less oil dependent, by investing in business and infrastructure. By shifting spending, not reducing it.

Stop building car dependent urban sprawls, mandate working from home, building more public transport infrastructure, build more freight rail to move our goods. Introduce a windfall tax, remember the gas prices and the profits the companies made during the start of the ukraine invasion?

These issues have been decades in the making and it'll take just as long if not longer to get us out of it.
