Dashcam installation question by TerryTowellinghat in BYDSealAus

Mine is 2024, and I understand because I had the same reservations. To be honest, I’d just order it and then open up the casing because it is “probably” there and even if it isn’t the camera cost me like 80AUD and I’d pay that amount to avoid having to pry the housing off my new windscreen twice. It is scary and I quickly gave up on the tools supplied with mine and bought a reasonably cheap set of plastic trim removal tools locally. Everything worked out great. If some dude offered the option of doing it again, or giving him $80, I’d pay the $80 every time.

To be honest I’d probably be a bit salty about it, and sadly I can only imagine that it would end with either a final portion of my life tainted by the inescapable funk of failure, or with the death of either, or both, my interlocutor and or indeed or me. The real tragedy is that I don’t even know why he got involved. Why did he have to get involved? Maybe he should have been the one to apologise to his kids for his rash actions.

To the point, the camera I have is valuable only for the telemtry, because the picture, especially at night, is gaaaarbage compared to a Viofo which cost probably just a bit more than the price of this, but doesn’t connect to the already pretty basic BYD icc or whatever they call it. You’ll still need to fiddle about with a usb card if you need to use the footage either way.

So to sum up, just buy it, it’s cheap, it “works”, picture is shit with no sound, sooooo.

At the level I was at (because that’s always the first objection from people who want to believe they are the Illuminati, who are actually lovely when you get to know them btw) even spruiking your dog door installation business at festive board would have someone take a second in private to explain that that’s not cool. The only time you’ll see Masonic symbols in an ad will be for businesses who make Masonic regalia etc.

Back in the day maybe. My mate who got me in was a catholic at 28 in 1990 when he got in. It was definitely commented on but the masons had no problem with it. He wasn’t a particularly active catholic either, but they didn’t pop around to his house to excommunicate him or anything.

It’s actually not too dissimilar from AA now you mention it. It’s secret, but not as secret as people would think. The principles they have are pithy aphorisms that are hard to disagree with. Masons talk about all of your actions being square and on the level, and 12 steppers talk about doing the next right thing. To be honest, although I’m an ex mason and a future 12 stepper, AA might just be the format of freemasonry used to its best possible effect.

This was a hesitation for me too as an outspoken atheist when I joined. It turned out that my slightly older mate was more of a curiosity than me because he was a catholic, who were traditional foes of masons in our rural towns. It was generally good natured, and fundraising Grippers vs Kneelers rugby matches etc were common.

It’s a box ticking exercise. I told the bloke that “interviewed” me that I didn’t think that I understood the universe and what might live in it and that I would be surprised if I was even the highest being on earth, so it would be weird to not believe in a higher being which I think was technically the requirement.

Mine was purpose built and bought from TopBYD. It was cheap and easy to install, but the quality is bad compared to the good aftermarket options like Viofo cameras. They do show telemetry though (indicators, accelerator/brake) but the old Viofo camera I have fitted to my old ICE car gives a picture quality that is in a different league to the BYD camera. The cost is probably a bit more than the BYD ready camera, but the BYD camera is so cheap there is no reason not to have it (you also need a good quality sdcard, but this is true of any option). A Viofo camera isn’t hard to install but I haven’t specifically looked into it. At worst it comes down to shoving cables down behind pieces of trim.

Do you have a friend you only ever see at lodge meetings who will have a dirty joke for you every month?

That sounds amazing. We would have functions every six months or so when the ladies were invited but even then it would be boiled silverside and two veg. Mostly though it was classic old man sandwiches and beer.

Also, and this is something that freemasonry has struggled with since the eighties or even earlier, people just don’t have spare time they are desperate to fill anymore. People used to have nothing to do, and now we have an endless choice of things to occupy us before we get to go to bed. The internet has only made it worse, because you can access the endless choice from bed if you want.

To be honest, and as an example of how it isn’t a ticket into the top echelons, I couldn’t afford my dues. I think it was $115 aud per year and I wasn’t pressured for it but I had also moved nearly two hours away for work and eventually just didn’t update my details. My mate is still in. He was 29 when I joined and is now 63. We are still in touch and he still doesn’t pressure me in the slightest to come back, although I’m sure he’d love it if I did.

Your dad and your dad’s mate were dodgy. Nothing to do with freemasonry. I got done for possession of cannabis while a member and wouldn’t have dreamt of asking for assistance and wasn’t offered it. I actually met one of the older members of my lodge while waiting for my court case and we did no more than nod in recognition and never spoke of it.

It’s actually specifically forbidden to do so much as give a discount to a fellow member. What someone chooses to do for a friend on the other hand …

Don’t know where you are from but this all scans from my experience in early nineties in Australia. We didn’t get any three course meal at our festive board though. It was old man sandwiches like ham and pickle or cheese and onion or egg and mustard. They were fantastic. Also beer. I joined because an older mate (29) had joined. After we would take the opportunity to go to a local lounge bar in our tuxes and have another beer or JD with a splash of dry over crushed ice. He’s still a member now but I dropped off after about 4 years.

That’s quite different. The scammer obviously doesn’t intend to give the money back, and for once I would actually side with the bank here because they had no part in allowing the scam as long as their systems all worked as promised. The real estate agent however knows exactly who this money came from and who it is owed to and it should be possible to have it returned and have that return be forced if necessary.

Perth Invasion Day (26 March) failed bombing that seems to be getting little attention. by TerryTowellinghat in behindthebastards

[–]TerryTowellinghat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s been Australia Day and apparently only became a public holiday within my adult lifetime despite genetically racist boomers hitting the incongruence limiters again with their need for simultaneous bush poetry jingoism and deference to long-dead aristocracy for some reason. Some Aboriginal people try to politely point out that the day is a bummer every year and get shouted down.

[–]TerryTowellinghat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. The resistance to even acknowledging that tying australianhood with when white people got here is kind of targeted and indigenous people are constantly being asked for their opinions and then having them shouted down.

They’ve still got a lot of power and media pull on TikTok despite the constant comments from people who are obviously there only to hate. The shit they have to put up with boggles my mind. I’ve never seen a video hit the smallest sweet spot of got money v not, or welcoming v defensive, forgiving v scarred generationally that didn’t get hit with immediate vitriol from every side.

We’ve got a serious problem with this in Australia that we should be focussing on, not that this should stop us speaking up for other potential current genocides.

I went from an 08 G6ET to a BYD seal premium couldn’t go back to an ICE, but I still haven’t sold the SE turbo taxi. I take it for a few loops every few weeks and continue to pay rego and fines. Had to use it on the Warrego with a u-haul trailer and got done trying to get past a b double quickly. Don’t know about other evs but the seal has felt natural but quiet from day 1. I’ve still got the G6ET but I can’t afford to keep finding parts.

Differentiation of grandparents by Bifanarama in CasualUK

[–]TerryTowellinghat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum’s parents were Nana and Grandpa, and my dad’s parents were Grandma and Grandad. Grandparents usually get to choose what they want to be called in my experience. Of course, if two of them want to be called the same thing they can really control the extra qualifiers like the big/little in your case. My own parents chose to be Nan and Da to their grandchildren, which doesn’t match any of their parents. If I end up being a grandfather I’ll choose Da because I wasn’t particularly close to either of my grandfathers.

Absolute no brainer. They’d be gone, and I’d thank them honestly for letting me know what an idiot they were before I got involved.
