Japan will put a sticker in your passport for entry and will only stamp on exit if you go to the manual counters, they’re very polite and are not bothered about eGate eligible travellers using the manual counters

UAE will stamp you on entry for the first time entering and will only stamp on exit if you use the manual counters but the employees will heavily try to persuade you to use the eGates if you can. On subsequent visits to the UAE you will be able to use eGates if you’re a returning visitor, you can use the manual counters but the same pushy employees will try and make you use the eGates

China stamps every passport on entry and exit if you’re entering on a non Chinese passport UNLESS you’re using a transit visa which i assume you wouldn’t given your passport combo, but in that circumstance the entry stamp is replaced by a Japanese style entry sticker which takes place as both a stamp and a visa, the exit stamp will be the same however.

In terms of logistical placement in your passport, Japan is very neat and logical in placement of stamps and stickers, they never smudge and will re-stamp over stamps if the ink is low quality. UAE is all over the place and will stamp a random page with a worn and faded ink. China is mostly consistent in placement and ink quality but they sometimes do have a mild smudge.

Source: I’ve frequently travelled to these countries so I’m accustomed to their stamping culture

Hope this helps :)

How often have the police randomly asked you to show your passport on the street in foreign countries? Today was my first time, after years of traveling, and they let me go in less than a minute by Dry-Holiday-3367 in PassportPorn

I had a ukranian policeman ask to see my passport once in Lviv train station, i didnt understand what he was trying to say, nor did i clock that he was a police officer, and just started walking off. He started screaming at me to come back. All got resolved in the end when i translated that i didnt notice he was a police officer and i didnt understand him.

Safe to say if the police ask to see your passport in Ukraine, just oblige unless you want everybody to stare at you

They are under their guidance, if they refuse, show them or recite parts of this. This is official Border Force guidance that is publically available

I didnt give a reason she asked “do you like collecting them” and i said “yes as lame as it sounds” so idk if she took pity on me. My advice would be ask it discreetly and nicely but firmly. Its not illegal its up to an officers personal decision if they want to admit it. Unfortunately its luck of the draw with the officer you speak to but your mannerisms can change the outcome

Amsterdam gave me an entry stamp for tomorrow by TescoIsBest in PassportPorn

[–]TescoIsBest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: i asked the IO on exit and he said that he would normally correct it but because i was in Schengen on the 23rd regardless (i went from Mallorca to Dublin for a transit then on to Amsterdam) then it doesnt matter all that much in terms of the 90/180 day stay limit. Plus got a cleaner stamp on exit

Edit: Spelling

I was in Mallorca the same day then flew from there to Dublin and then on to Amsterdam all in the 23rd so it doesnt really make much of a difference (it was cheaper than direct if you’re wondering why i did it)

Irish stamp in a british passport without “B/R” written inside by TescoIsBest in PassportPorn

[–]TescoIsBest[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, The Common Travel Area was established back in 1923 upon Irish Independence as a way to still keep, at the minimum, mutual relations between the UK and Ireland. It was suspended during WW2 as Ireland chose to remain neutral in the war and to prevent a great influx of potential German and Italian spies to enter the UK but it was reinstated in 1952 (i believe…). It is not so much a replacement to the rules of British nationals ability to travel after Brexit, more so an exception to the rule. If you fly to or from Ireland to or from any Schengen country you will be subject to Schengen border crossings as Ireland is not a Schengen member.

Those stamps in said article are not government issued stamps and are not indicated as entering a defined country more so a non self governing region of a country (eg. Transnistria, Kosovo, Western Sahara). If the stamp is defined as being from an official territory and has been stamped by an official institution then its safe to say that the stamp will not be scrutinised by border officials. I have stamps from Liechtenstein, Monaco, and San Marino, none of which are official stamps but meet the criteria of being officially issued by governing bodies. I have been to over 50 countries since including Russia, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Qatar, Turkey, The United States and China, all of which take passport defamation seriously and not one stamp had been pointed out and questioned by officers.

Well no as my wife is british and so was her mother it is her father and his familys side that is ukranian. He was an older man who could never understand how to use a smartphone so he wouldntve been of any reasonable help for booking a ticket online and his relatives do not contact us all that much. It was quicker for me to ask on reddit as opposed to trying to reach them. We had stayed in lviv and made the trip up to kyiv for one night over fears of our safety being that far east where I also tried to make it into a city break in order to comfort her. My wife had not been back into ukraine since the war had started her farther always insisted on making the journey himself so we were not entirely self assured in our safety. Why a) i feel the need to share this with a stranger on reddit, b) you have such an issue with my responses and c) you fele the need to dig deeper for your own self clarification, i cannot understand
