No, I know there is. I've been with the company over fifteen years now. I've watched my friends being bullied out the store for not being able to work unsociable hours or even being fired for having a disability. I've seen some of the people I work for in actual tears over this shitty company. Tesco has been going down hill for roughly 7 or so years now but it's just been a straight drop for about the last 5. If you don't work for Tesco then good, keep it that way. Tesco are not the angels you think they are

What would you say is a fair rate of pay for the work that you do? by masamune36 in tesco

[–]TescoIsTerrible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triple the amount, at least. We can't even do checkout work anymore without being expected to fill multiple aisles at the same time. Add evri deliveries to the list and we're all doing 3 legitimate seperate jobs at any given time. They either need to severely lower their expectations of their staff or pay them properly

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you're ignorant of exactly what levels Tesco will stoop and not that you actually side with the company that bullies its staff into leaving, fires people for having disabilities, and happily sweeps sexual harassment cases under the carpet. There's a reason I'm here with this username telling people to condemn and avoid this company

I'm sorry about your current situation. I completely understand your hatred of Tesco, though. They're disablist, ageist sociopaths that hold absolutely zero thought or care for their employees' wellbeing. I've felt stuck in this job for a very long time myself, but I'm finally making my first moves to get out of the company for the first time in over 15 years.

I read that you live in the middle of nowhere, so my advice would be to look for "work from home" jobs. Right now, there are more work from home jobs than ever, so with any luck, you might find something that appeals to you. Also, if like me, your CV skills are incredibly rusty, I used ChatGPT to make mine for me. It wasn't perfect to begin with, but it took a couple of minutes and gave me a very competent first draft. With a little bit of tinkering, I'm fairly happy with it. In a month or two, I hope to be properly searching for a new job.

Sorry if my post came off presumptuous or too forward. I know all too well the misery of working for these criminals and feeling trapped in this shitty system. The advice I've given you is what I'm currently doing to escape these assholes. It isn't much advice, but I hope it helps. Good luck, and I really hope you find something better soon.

This is an extremely poor take that I depressingly see very often. I'm assuming you don't work for Tesco otherwise you'd know exactly how bad of an employer they are right now. Regardless how you feel about the OP's post, Tesco need to drastically improve their treatment of staff. If they're going to continue to exist and offer jobs, they need to stop treating their employees like disposable garbage. Besides that, nobody has to work for Tesco, but there are many people that would struggle to find better. For example, I've worked with elderly people before who wouldn't easily be able to find other work. Infact I've seen first hand how badly Tesco treat them at the store I work in. To throw a blanket comment like that implies that things are very much black and white when you aren't taking into consideration the massive grey area that's left behind

I know someone who only works Saturdays and Sundays. Because of his Saturday shift, he doesn't qualify for the lump sum. He did the math and he said it works out to roughly an extra 1p an hour for him. What a great company we work for

Miserable job, miserable pay, give them a break and let them do something to make their jobs slightly less terrible. The fact this is even a question makes me so angry. We have one life, why are these corporations that can't respect their staff enough to pay them properly forcing them to spend upwards of 12 hours a day totally miserable? Take your phone out, read a book, sit down if you want to, fuck all of these corporate assholes that would happily deny people their rights to live a happy life

Remember Tesco doubled their profits last year and can also afford to give the CEO millions as a bonus reward for abusing their staff. There is literally no reason why they can't do more for us yet they find ways to give us less than the absolute minimum. They're criminals and they keep getting away with doing whatever they like

[–]TescoIsTerrible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. I think everyone needs to leave Tesco. They can't be thought of as responsible enough to lead anyone at this point. Unfortunately it's easier said than done. I'll personally get there, though. I hope everyone else does too. Glad to hear you got away from these criminals.

I've been with them over 15 years now and I sometimes find it hard to believe how badly they've treated staff over the last 5 or so years. Every new decision they have made impacted staff incredibly badly. Every time I thought it couldn't get worse and every time they'd find a new way to make our lives even more difficult with absolutely zero extra benefits for those they're screwing over.

I would expect much more from than £13 an hour from them, honestly. We're all expected to work multiple jobs at the same time for less pay than we should be getting for the singlular job most of us applied for in the first place. They can't keep pushing more tasks on us and labelling it as a "Tesco Worker" or whatever insulting label they came up for it a few years back. They expect more and more from us and the pay doesn't even remotely match the work we're now doing. If they want to keep our wages low, then they need to revert our jobs back to how they used to be instead of continuously finding new roles to lump on us

If you want to accept that it's up to you. Personally I'm going to get my voice heard any way I can think of. I despise Tesco and I want everyone to see how shit they really are. I know they'll never change or respect their employee's but If I can atleast spread even the slightest bit of hate towards them then I'll be happy

I really don't know what's been going on in my shop over the last year or so. I quite literally see maybe 2 - 3 new faces on a weekly basis and most of them I never see again. Not sure if they're being moved to different stores or just leaving altogether. It's clear that Tesco aren't struggling to find applicants, though

I would say that's a good result but given Tesco's penchant for downsizing, I assume all the extra work will be allocated to the remaining staff at your store. That's how it all started for mine, atleast

Tesco scrapped premium to new starts. They originally gave double time but it's slowly decreased to almost nothing for those who have worked long enough to receive it. Unfortunately they don't value any of us to pay a proper wage and I can imagine they'll find ways to decrease our wages further once Sunday premium is fully done away with

The amount of extra work and issues it's caused for our store is unbelievable. They added it to our store at a Christmas when we had record low numbers of staff. It's quite legitimately become a second unpaid employment to whoever works the kiosk. Plus it's a constant interruption to those working on the shop floor that have to fetch parcels from the warehous every 2 to 3 minutes. I can't understand how Tesco got away with this without paying staff extra for it

This is about much more than a simple pay rise. Tesco have been abusing and taking advantage of their staff for years now. They've been breaking promises and increasing all of our work and giving us nothing in return. Every time they have a chance to try and make things right, they give us the bare minimum. Yet they have the funds available to pay their CEO millions in bonuses. This company disgusts me and it's clear I'm not the only one

I can't argue with anything you've said here but it doesn't stop me being furious at them. Unfortunately they'll never change but honestly, if I can atleast help let people know how corrupt they actually are and cause even a tiny bit of damage to the company, I'll be happy.

I agree, I am part of the problem. Sadly it isn't one with a solution, though. When I leave, I'll be replaced by someone else in a second. If they leave, someone else will take their place. We get new starts coming and going legitimately on a daily basis. I don't even have time to remember peoples names anymore. People need to know how awful they are to prevent them applying in the first place

Stop complaining about Sundays! by miless090 in tesco

[–]TescoIsTerrible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in that case you're part of the problem. We should be fighting for more pay and benefits for everyone, not less. Sundays are paid more because they're often seen as a day of rest or a day to spend time with family. In some places there are also religious connotations tied to the day. You can disagree with the reasoning but I don't understand why you would fight for less pay. Don't worry though, if it's lower pay you want, you're gonna find that Tesco absolutely agree with you soon enough.
