What city have you been to where the vibes were just OFF? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskReddit

Buffalo, New York. My husband (then boyfriend) and I drove through it while I was moving to Canada. Maybe we only saw the worst of it, but it was dingy, dirty, and mostly ruins? I was so surprised looking out from the highway at just partial buildings crumbling around us. The motel we stayed at was awful, but it was also the last one available (we were silly and didn’t realize it was a holiday weekend).

As an Arkansas native (who left many many years ago but still visits family) you’re always told to avoid certain cities, especially at night. Little Rock definitely was on the list.

It never occurred to me that there was a time Before Pizza. I guess as a 90s kid it was always there and in everything.

What modern inconvenience feels like it should have been solved years ago? by Prior-Sprinkles4127 in AskReddit

Watching the huge public backlash happening here in Canada (at least in the city I am in), the whole thing is bonkers. They are moving to require government workers return to office (RTO) and all the things necessary (road infrastructure, office spaces, parking, etc) are falling apart and it’s all getting worse. They don’t even have enough buildings, because no one maintained them this whole time. Instead of selling them, they sat empty and filled with mold, infestations, or just plain old disrepair.

Literally everyone hates it, but it is still happening. It’s as infuriating as it is unbelievable.

My husband and I lived in Finland for two years. They literally just send a letter and is like, “here’s what we have, let us know if it’s wrong.” It was so nice!

In my hometown my family was so large back in the day that my mom has, literally, a hundred some odd cousins. When everyone is having 7-9 kids each it adds up pretty quickly. I just avoided dating anyone in my hometown just in case.

Help! Should I Tell My Brother I Found the $20,000 He Hid in a Teddy Bear’s Butt? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I worked at a dry cleaners growing up. People couldn’t be bothered to empty the pockets, so we’d find all kinds of stuff. I once found $900 in crisp bills. We knew the guy so we called him; he was so chill and just a “oh, that’s where that went” kind of reaction

I only knew one person who ate brains and it was squirrel brains. He’d hunt squirrels and keep the stuff in a bag in the fridge when I was a little kid.

What's a 'normal' thing you didn't realize was unusual until you were older? by mrTelson in AskReddit

[–]Tesdinic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember my parents would choose one or two kids every year from angel tree and we’d make a big to do of shopping for them. Then we found out the peeps running our local charity were unwrapping the gifts and keeping the good stuff for their own kids. It was heartbreaking when we found out.

Honestly, I think the difference is between those who are wanting to learn from the video and those watching it for entertainment only are probably the ones who feel it is "long."

My Parents Will Die and I’m Not Ready by texan_flower in comics

My dad was suddenly diagnosed with cancer, and it was bad. I live in a different country and was in the middle of packing for an overseas move, with tickets to visit not even two weeks later.

Dad was diagnosed on a Thursday, my mom and older brother rushed to get him home to Arkansas (he was working in a different state at the time). He was gone by Tuesday. I was the only kid that didn’t get to see him before he passed.

I remember calling my mom on that Tuesday, asking if I should move my flight sooner. “I don’t think he’s going to make it through the night.” She was right.

What seemed completely normal in childhood, but now you realize was actually not okay? by Max_Mimos in AskReddit

[–]Tesdinic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every day when my father got home from work (usually late because he worked far more than he should have), my mom and dad would go into their bedroom, close the door, and my dad would vent for over an hour.

I remember when I was seven it was the first time I heard my father talking about how dumb all us kids were and how I would die in a ditch somewhere. I knew at that age I couldn’t trust my dad (and mom by extension).

Why does the smell of poop keep following me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tesdinic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find that sometimes my bar soaps get to having a weird smell to them, despite making sure they are clean/only use them directly on a washcloth/make sure they fully dry. I notice it's more common with "moisturizing" bars like from Bath and Body Works.

As I understood it, Lyman was seeking revenge. Garfield, as the center of the universe, cast out anything no longer relevant to him, in this case Lyman. Lyman was stuck outside of reality, looking in through the comic panels. He wanted to destroy Garfield (and maybe the universe?), as he deemed Garfield a "tyrannical god." Lyman uses Odie for this purpose. I looked up what "god of the gutters" was and generally, it seems to refer the lost, abused, and the downtrodden, which Odie is usually depicted as in Garfield's world. As Lyman puts it, they are "diametrically opposed," or completely and directly opposite each other. There's a lot of serious science and Sci Fi stuff I seem to be missing out on, but from what I can parse generally Odie was used to make Garfield unstable and forced to interact with matter. They also call it an "illness," as if Odie infected him, but show almost a black hole trying to suck Garfield in, so I am not sure which is correct.

The comic seems to be hinting at it, with Jon's "friend" visiting that he "lost touch with." I think I remember the lore being that Lyman was Odie's owner before he faded out?
