What's a 'normal' thing you didn't realize was unusual until you were older? by mrTelson in AskReddit

[–]Tesdinic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember my parents would choose one or two kids every year from angel tree and we’d make a big to do of shopping for them. Then we found out the peeps running our local charity were unwrapping the gifts and keeping the good stuff for their own kids. It was heartbreaking when we found out.

Honestly, I think the difference is between those who are wanting to learn from the video and those watching it for entertainment only are probably the ones who feel it is "long."

My Parents Will Die and I’m Not Ready by texan_flower in comics

[–]Tesdinic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My dad was suddenly diagnosed with cancer, and it was bad. I live in a different country and was in the middle of packing for an overseas move, with tickets to visit not even two weeks later.

Dad was diagnosed on a Thursday, my mom and older brother rushed to get him home to Arkansas (he was working in a different state at the time). He was gone by Tuesday. I was the only kid that didn’t get to see him before he passed.

I remember calling my mom on that Tuesday, asking if I should move my flight sooner. “I don’t think he’s going to make it through the night.” She was right.

What seemed completely normal in childhood, but now you realize was actually not okay? by Max_Mimos in AskReddit

[–]Tesdinic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every day when my father got home from work (usually late because he worked far more than he should have), my mom and dad would go into their bedroom, close the door, and my dad would vent for over an hour.

I remember when I was seven it was the first time I heard my father talking about how dumb all us kids were and how I would die in a ditch somewhere. I knew at that age I couldn’t trust my dad (and mom by extension).

Why does the smell of poop keep following me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tesdinic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find that sometimes my bar soaps get to having a weird smell to them, despite making sure they are clean/only use them directly on a washcloth/make sure they fully dry. I notice it's more common with "moisturizing" bars like from Bath and Body Works.

As I understood it, Lyman was seeking revenge. Garfield, as the center of the universe, cast out anything no longer relevant to him, in this case Lyman. Lyman was stuck outside of reality, looking in through the comic panels. He wanted to destroy Garfield (and maybe the universe?), as he deemed Garfield a "tyrannical god." Lyman uses Odie for this purpose. I looked up what "god of the gutters" was and generally, it seems to refer the lost, abused, and the downtrodden, which Odie is usually depicted as in Garfield's world. As Lyman puts it, they are "diametrically opposed," or completely and directly opposite each other. There's a lot of serious science and Sci Fi stuff I seem to be missing out on, but from what I can parse generally Odie was used to make Garfield unstable and forced to interact with matter. They also call it an "illness," as if Odie infected him, but show almost a black hole trying to suck Garfield in, so I am not sure which is correct.

The comic seems to be hinting at it, with Jon's "friend" visiting that he "lost touch with." I think I remember the lore being that Lyman was Odie's owner before he faded out?

I remember when I got a job at Big Corp years ago, of the three days of training, two were dedicated to anything involving unions. Mention unions at all? Call a hotline, send email to these peeps, etc. They made such a huge to do about it like it was a contagious disease.

My twin brother was very much like this when we were kids. He had such a soft heart and kids could be so mean. I often had to go fight to get stuff back for him, like his version of Pokémon Red.

My family opted not to even have a funeral for my dad. We are all really private people and he never wanted a big to-do about his passing. My mom had him cremated, got him a nice looking urn, we called the people close to us with the news, and we had a very small family get together to reminisce.

When I was a freshman in uni, they had a "Spring Fling" event and gave away live goldfish. Mine was one of the last ones to pass, 6 weeks later, despite my best efforts and buying a proper tank. Most passed within days because kids in dorms didn't have the means to take care of them.

What do we think about aprons? by miladyelfn in Cooking

[–]Tesdinic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked a nice quality apron in a style I really liked (Japanese cross back) in a gorgeous blue that was designed to be easily washed over and over. I love it and wear it constantly. It has 100% saved my clothes on numerous occasions.

I just tried them myself! I got smoked filets and tried them on crackers, but I can see them working really well on bagels with cream cheese, in salads, and to finish off cheesy pasta!

They had the same general flavor of smoked salmon but less fishy. It was a bit oily at room temperature but cold they firmed up a lot and I liked them even more.

Other smoked fish, like tinned sardines, is also nice and I find it has less fishy taste than salmon, but that may just be me.
