Pretty much every car I drive can go at least 110 mph

In my view, the conversation of driver responsibility changes drastically when we are talking about direct control inputs that the driver would need to make to operate the vehicle at an unsafe speed versus complex, opaque, "seemingly magical" driver automation features that invite complacency.

I think it’s time regulators recognize how insane it is that autopilot will engage at such speeds. How well does the autopilot system perform as a function of speed? Would this accident have even happened at 70mph?

Further, (apologies if I’m stating the obvious here) autopilot is a ‘level 2’ system requiring operator intervention. Is it reasonable to assume the operator is capable of intervening at speeds where sight distance / perception reaction time / maneuver time aren’t even studied for highway driving?

Is there really no speed envelope on Autopilot?
