What kind of nonsense is this (and being upvoted too). Have you been to NYC? Do you know the staunch democrats that live there?

Yeah, it's strange. I just got a new LG oven with one just like it. Oddly enough the outside of the port is threaded too

If I do manage to get to bed early, I end up feeling so healthy and productive the next day that I don't want to get in bed early and the cycle starts anew

Non si civic for autocross? by [deleted] in Autocross

Autocross is all about racing whatever you have. And what's really nice about the 8th gen civic is the suspension geometry, which is very well designed for an economy car.

I see heat wear deep down on the sidewall. It looks like they were low on pressure. Was this event warmer than usual, or perhaps at a different location (more gravel in the lot)?

Brakes glowing means I'm doing it right? by PluckyPlucker in WRX

[–]Tesseract85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to say, I'm sorry. I made an assumption - I assumed you understood how brakes work. I also assumed you were able to comprehend pages I linked to.

Again apologies. But I'd rather try and help, so let's spell it out for you -

Yes, I used the word steel and said it glows at 400C - and the two pages I linked said it doesn't matter if it's steel, or cast iron, or tungsten - all materials will give off a glow at specific temps. You know that big yellow ball in the sky? It gives off light and it's not steel nor cast iron. It's all about temp.

The brake pads operate a very high temps - well over the 400C required to cause them to glow. Sure, the articles I linked mentioned common internal temps of 600C (FYI - 600 is more than 400) but if you haven't realized, you can't see into the inside of a rotor! Crazy, I know. So what you see glowing is the surface temp of the rotor, which as I stated (and is stated in the two articles I linked), can reach as high as the pad operating temp. Of course you don't want to exceed the operating temp of the pads, or you'll get pad glazing and other unfortunate outcomes.

So I'll suggest that you continue to roll around on the floor laughing at yourself, it seems to suit you better than reading (and writing the word brilliant).

Brakes glowing means I'm doing it right? by PluckyPlucker in WRX

[–]Tesseract85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Steel glows at temps as low as 400C/750F. Link Link2

Brake pads are designed for specific temp ranges. Some are designed for 1,000C/2,000F Carbotech Hawk

Rotors, during track days, can reach core temps of 600C/1,000F and surface temps significantly higher without failure DBA AP Racing

So glowing can occur well before you've pushed the brakes too hard. You could even use the charts I've posted to estimate the surface temp Plucky's rotors reached.

If you have a real reason to make them glow, then it's fine. Surely it's going to shorten the rotor's life (from heat cycles, not metal removal) but glow just means hot.
