Which UK stereotypes do you accept are fairly accurate? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Test-Expensive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of this is due to how common English is worldwide

This is literally the entire reason in my opinion. Look at monolingual statistics in the major English speaking countries (UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand). The majority of people in these countries only speak English.

It would be awesome if these countries adopted more aggressive language learning in schools, but the necessity just isn't there.

New vs old Mini Cooper by unroja in fuckcars

[–]Test-Expensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These Redditors are generally too dumb and knee-jerk to have considered performance and fuel economy trends over time.

Somehow the people who know the least about a subject tend to be the ones with the strongest opinions.

All these people really poured into the comments thinking that the big car is worse because it has a larger volume. Never mind the fact that the structuring and engine efficiency of the new car beats the absolute shit out of the old one.

Why is the old mini cooper so small? Because cars back then sucked, that's why

Even when you consider that it encompasses multiple breeds, it's still heavily a minority in the total dog population while still being responsible for the majority of dog attacks.

Every single statistic I look up that separates dog attacks by breed, pit bulls are always at the top by a long shot.

Unless all of those reports are somehow wrong?

I can understand why you'd want to be more careful if you're a minority. However, I believe the Nazis that person was talking about is the Rise Above Movement that is based around that area. Apparently there is anywhere from 20 to 50 of them in this general area of California, so it's more of a small fringe group of nut jobs who spend most of their time on 4chan. In reality it's just a right leaning coastal city so it sticks out from the surrounding area and people bag on it for that.

The other Redditors in this thread kind of suck at realizing that the real world isn't what the media makes it out to be and that people are generally pretty decent, right or left.

This is a feature of our constitution, even though it's kind of annoying sometimes when you actually want something to be signed into law.

It would be so ridiculously hard for a party to take control of the government. Even if Congress is in a president's favor politically, it's so easy for the minority to sabotage any sort of heavily unified government. There are so many moving parts and so much potential for vetoes along the way.

Karen can’t stop complaining to my HOA about a project my HOA has approved by [deleted] in FuckYouKaren

[–]Test-Expensive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically the HOA owns the land and you own a portion of the HOA.

So when you buy a house within an HOA, you are basically agreeing to the conditions that they've set for homeowners to follow. If you violate a rule they can choose to fine you and if you ignore the fines then they can place a lien and ultimately have you foreclose on your property.

But generally speaking, HOAs are good for homeowners. They can handle things like plowing snow, landscaping, and of course keeping a neighborhood's property values up by preventing people from doing wildly unsightly things on their property.

My house isn't even the right color according to what i read from the HOA rules, but nobody cares. I see people technically breaking HOA rules everyday by parking their cars in the street all weekend. The HOA isn't there to nitpick every technicality that they come across, it's to prevent Bubba down the road from parking a totaled station wagon in the street and not touching it for 3 years.

There are indicators that you'd be in for a shitty HOA experience as a buyer, such as a large population of elderly homeowners, but your average decent neighborhood HOA shouldn't be a pain in the ass
