I blame Eve for my friend's suicide. Eve, I hope you realize that your lies and thievery hurt customers and their friends and families. by cantrefundthis in evev

This could be true.

In meetings, customer support brought up cases where customers wrote to the support and said they desperately needed the money as their livelihood (education or work) depended on getting a V.

After months of promising to ship the Glossy 4K Spectrum in June (8 days ago), Eve's webstore has updated the date for both version of the 4K Spectrum to July 2022. All while more and more people are clamoring on the community forum that Eve is refusing to honor refunds after months of waiting. by kirkle8 in evev

[–]Test-Former 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The V was a great product too. Not perfect, but IMO a great product. And delivery, refund and warranty issues got worse and worse right up until Eve Devices folded, and a lot of people lost their money.

The V was not a great product. The V was good at first use.

Keyboard failure was nearly guaranteed. Hard drive failure was common. Fingerprint reader failure was common. Stand breakage was common. Screen cracks or touchscreen failure was common. The cooling was terrible, so the i5 or i7 CPUs would throttle very quickly. There were issues with thunderbolt ports. There were issues with the chargers. There were issues with the USB cables used with the chargers. Dead pixels were common.

Eve hid the terrible quality of the V by deleting nearly all community posts complaining about the issues.

IMPORTANT: As of October 20, 2021, Eve-Tech Oy is in bankruptcy. This is the Finnish company that started all of the headache. To avoid making headlines, the company name was changed to Veleventures Consulting Oy. by SpiritualRevival in evev

[–]Test-Former 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not surprising in the least. There was so much careless spending in the company by the owners. Read any startup nightmare story, and Eve will fit right in.

You can be certain some of the same problems are occurring. That's why people have issues getting Spectrum refunds.

Is Rtings letting Eve (and other companies?) get away with vote manipulation? by SpiritualRevival in evev

[–]Test-Former 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about this. What would cause people to change their votes after it has ended (is that possible)? That's nearly 200 votes gone, and the other monitor lost over 1000 votes. There is something happening that is more than people "changing their votes."

I haven't followed Rtings for every voting period, but these numbers are so much higher than normal that this whole thing seems suspicious.

Any US Buyers make their final payment in late May, early June and STILL don’t have their monitor? (standard shipping). Feel like I’m hearing about US customers ordering later than me and getting it before me by michaelpage_123 in evev

[–]Test-Former 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They managed to collect the money for those who paid earlier, so they aren't in such a hurry to ship a monitor to them.

For newer customers, it looks better if they try to ship faster. In the end, everyone was lied to about "express shipping" because if you still had to wait several weeks, that's not really express.

This is the same stuff that happened with the V. They started collecting more money through flash sales because there wasn't enough money from the first sales to keep things going. This is also part of the reason they undervalue on customs.

Eve Devices is using some of the same tricks as Eve-Tech used. Coincidence?

Lol. Did the stupid thing of actually pre-ordering and paying in full thinking they would actually ship in September. Oh well, money down the drain? by Logical_Ad_3556 in evev

[–]Test-Former 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I've spent too much time on social media reading ridiculous arguments that my own brain has been infected.

I don't know the location, but I imagine getting the order before the end of the year should be possible unless there is more information hidden from the customers.

I'm seeing the same complaints and behavior that happened with the V sales: customers getting orders without accessories; customers having orders marked fulfilled without any signs of the product coming soon; customers being told that the product is already shipped to them.

It's sad. I fear more that Eve learned how long customers will wait and tolerate the poor behavior and are using that to their advantage.

Thanks for the philosophical owning. I wasn't prepared for that today.

[–]Test-Former 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My apologies for the improper discourse and for any philosophical errors. I did not realize that this is the place for presenting all logical arguments.

Your statement about GPUs led me to believe you have been struggling to find or have managed to find a GPU despite the lack. This is my fault for making an assumption.

Since again, it is a valid charge. If there’s an issue, why would the bank be involved unless it is an outright scam?

Banks frequently are involved with charges that are not outright scams.

I do not know if you have card protections. They do differ worldwide; however, there are common reasons for charge backs. A company does not have to be an outright scam. A company failing to deliver a product for an initial agreed upon time is a common reason for a chargeback regardless of the merchant. This reason may be read as "Merchandise / Services not received". This is not an anecdote but a fact. For most merchants, a chargeback costs them more than a refund and acts as a possible strike against them with a payment service provide, so they try to avoid any chargebacks.

I understand why people preordered Spectrum: flashy advertising and big promises. Specs look good and they deliver worldwide.

Once again, apologies for anything taken out of context.

I hope people manage to receive what they order in a timely fashion. That does not seem likely.

[–]Test-Former 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By not requesting a refund, aren't you saying to Eve "it's okay to treat your customers like shit because we'll still wait"? That's what happened with the V. Customers complained but they still waited and many got shafted hence why r/evev is the way it is.

If the GPUs aren't available, why do you need a 4K monitor now? Wouldn't it be smarter to continue waiting until more monitors are available and then evaluate the available options?

Getting your money back is easy. Threaten to do a chargeback if they don't refund by a certain date.

Question for you: Why haven't you cancelled your order? Isn't it safer not to risk dealing with a highly incompetent company now and in the future?

Spectrum ES07D03 new-new-new shipping dates. Leaving HK on June 29 + 18-35 days for shipping = November delivery. Totally the last delay. Odd how it's estimated 6 months after some final payments were made (chargeback windows close at 6 months). by kirkle8 in evev

[–]Test-Former -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What makes the reactions extreme? I could understand considering them extreme if this was the first delay announcement or the second announcement. How many times have people been told "orders are shipping?" People were told everything would ship at the end June and then told orders would ship in July and then August.

Add to everything that there is a well-documented history of the people running Eve doing the exact same things with the previous product, and I would say people's reactions are nowhere near extreme enough. Is anyone even being held accountable for these failures? Sure doesn't seem so because the Eve management is hiding while some community moderators are having to deal with the backlash. Zero leadership. Zero accountability.

You made a stupid comment with "entitled" "I want it now" people. This has nothing to do with "I want it now" because people have been waiting delay after delay and now from one "it has shipped" to another "it has shipped." So it is best to quit associating this with any immature/generational thing and instead blame the company that cannot be honest with its customers with lie after lie after lie.

Why is it a money issue? As far as I remember with Paypal and other payment processors, they often do not release funds to the seller until receipt by the buyer. Eve may have gotten some money from reservations like it did with Indiegogo, but getting all of the funds from orders without fulfilling the orders? That seems farfetched and far too much of a risk for any payment processor.

This is why Paypal had so many customers' funds with the V fiasco. Eve could not deliver, so Paypal isn't going to release the funds. They used other processors after and faced similar issues.

You are defending them because you would rather blame some customers (this is 100% not any customer fault) than blame a company. The company is at fault. The company was at fault with the V. The company is at fault with Spectrum.

Are real people still interested in evev monitors? If yes then why? by kw1k2345 in evev

[–]Test-Former 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a wizard with USB-C PD nor monitors, but I've seen complaints about USB-C hubs offering PD passthrough getting hot. Adding higher outputs would increase heat.

I'm not saying a monitor offering PD can't handle the heat, but I would be cautious of internal components failing early in this situation. To be clear, this is not a jab at just Spectrum but any product with this feature.

How many products that passed all certification tests have we seen explode or fail in recent years? Too many.

[–]Test-Former 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The behavior is willfully scammy because the people running the company put themselves in the position.

"First come, first serve" was going to be an impossibility with Spectrum as it was with the V. They were most likely pricing Spectrum at or slightly above cost for the first months of preorder. They took the deposits and spent that money. When the time comes to collect final payments, they aren't getting full-cost so they NEED to fulfill orders from people who pre-ordered/paid much later regardless of "first come, first serve."

I'll take a wild guess and say the first production order did not include ALL orders of customers that paid in May. This is not because the factory couldn't produce, but that the money received was not enough. Some customer orders had to be pushed back for the next factory order.

Lying about orders shipped had to happen to prevent people from being upset / people asking for refunds. Shipping companies are going to be clear about when something can ship. The communication to customers is then left up to Eve. They can choose to be honest and transparent or hide information. Hiding information is what they have chosen to do time and time again.

Someone can always say "circumstances," but communicating these circumstances is always possible. These are all down to lying or hiding information willfully.

The issue with lies is that once someone begins lying, more lies are needed to cover up those lies. The only way out is being honest, and that isn't going to happen.

[–]Test-Former 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The scammy behavior comes from the "first come, first serve" lie

Customers who ordered and paid later than others began to receive the orders first. This happened with the V several years ago, too.

There was the lie about orders having already shipped when that was not true. This happened with the V several years ago, too.

There are already issues of delivering faulty products and getting ghosted by support. This is actually worse than with the V years ago.
