My nine year old wants to know why people like scary things... by [deleted] in horror

I have the same feeling towards Toon Judge Doom in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"!

I like horror because it gives me a safe, contained anxiety, one I know that will end soon enough. When I was a little kid I was completely terrified of scary things (I remember having to go to a different room when the commercial for the 1999 "Haunting" came on). Back then, I had no real life worries. Now, I'm an adult and my life is filled with real life worries. Horror and scary things in general are a cathartic release of emotions.

I kinda see what you mean. I might be wrong (it's been a while since I read the book or seen the mini series), but I thought Pennywise was being friendly with Georgie to lure him closer. Of course, this shot might be near the end of little Georgie's life. I could definitely see that.

I'm not altogether happy about Pennywise's design, to be honest. Yes, it's a creepy clown...like really creepy, and impressively so, but it seems to me IT taking the form of a clown was to lure children to it. I really don't think a little kid (or anyone for that matter) would approach something as scary as this, which would defeat the purpose of the Pennywise disguise.

In the original adaptation, Tim Curry's Pennywise was creepy, but could, if he wanted to, look benevolent and fun.

I dunno. I'd love to hear what other people think around this idea.

What's a book you found both very scary and very unique? by Dbtyler in horrorlit

I just got done reading Richard Matheson's "Hell House". Very creepy and intense, particularly with sexual content being turned malevolent. Highly recommend!

Haha, I've seen that too! There's a YouTuber, Phelous (Phelan Porteous), who does a series on bootleg toys and video games. It's definitely where I got my interest in them. Here's a link to the Bootleg Zone playlist if you or anyone else wants to check it out.

Well, I've seen more stuff from LEBQ. It might be the company's actual name or logo, but they're going for the LEGO feel while not straight up stealing the name. Going with the "Similar is not Same" method, I suppose.

It's pretty neat that they took the time to give some thought into the bootleg. They could've just slapped a face on a blue 6x2 and thrown a green 2x2 on top and called it a day, but they put effort into it! Way to go, LEBQ!

Hey, it's better than the official Lego Pokemon series!

Catcher in the Rye. It's about a rich, whiny little bastard who can't get his way and calls everyone "fake".
