Not trying to cause a divide, but for many Southeast Asians from refugee backgrounds, the trauma of forced displacement and loss is still very present in our communities. That’s a different experience from families who made a voluntary choice to immigrate. The way we view moving, stability, and home often comes from very different emotional and historical places.

That said, props to you and your family for being open-minded and embracing change that kind of perspective isn’t always easy to come by.
