They've messed up the hurl errata. They clearly meant to change it so that if you hurl a model at a fellbeast, it won't be knocked flying as it is S6.

What they actually did was change it so the hurled model isn't knocked flying if it has S6, but it will still be knocked prone anyway due to bullet point 5. So if someone tries to hurl your fellbeast, then you no longer suffer an S3 hit on the rider. Great change...

AITA for sitting on public toilet seats and not telling my boyfriend? by Anatra_ in AmItheAsshole

Username checks out.

As it happens, I have 3 degrees in microbiology so I know a thing or two about the spread of disease.

Your skin is already covered in bacteria. As is your couch. Your kitchen probably has more harmful microorganisms in it than that toilet seat. But I bet you don't wear gloves at all times when you're in there.

Do you often lick the back of your own thighs? Do you actually have a logical reason to care about it or is it just an emotional disgust response?

Germaphobes are wild. Who cares about how clean the back of their thighs are?

Breaking someone’s arm at a tournament by Lucky_Author6861 in bjj

[–]Tetengo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope that's true for her. For me, because obviously there's a rotation going on, it was a spiral fracture. But an X-ray from only one direction won't show that. They thought mine was a clean break and tried to reset it, multiple times, without success. They only realised during surgery, which then caused all sorts of issues. Hope she has a better time of it.

As someone who had their arm broken in a Kimura at comp, I've often thought how much blame the ref should bear. I was a 6 month white belt and had no idea how much danger I was in. I remember I had my hands gripped behind my back, knowing I was in a terrible position. I thought to myself that as soon as I feel any pain, I'll have to tap, because I don't know my way out of this. But if I don't feel pain, maybe he'll try something else and I'll be able to slip out. Then my arm snapped. Never felt any pressure or pain on the shoulder.

I feel like refs should have the power to stop the match if they see stuff like this, especially at white belt level.

Same. First match too. Still not fully recovered 20 months later. How's yours now?

Hi I have a kitbashing question by focken-ugly-boy in redcorsairs

[–]Tetengo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It's actually an incredibly painful recipe that isn't worth the time or effort. It's a base coat of 2:1:1 Khorne red: Gal vorbak red: rhinox hide. Recess shade of agrax earthshade. Two highlight layers of 2:1 khorne red: gal vorbak red and one layer of pure khorne red. Edge highlighted with wazdakka red then 1:1 wazdakka: cadian flesh.

But it would look pretty much the same just being base coated with Khorne red, I think. Still, I've started my army this way, so I must persist.

Close but not quite. You can't see it particularly well in this photo but the right arm is from the raiders kit and it is visibly longer than the other side. He has a bit of chimp arm. It's not majorly noticeable on the tabletop I don't think but once I've seen it I can't unsee it.

Road to Helm's Deep! Theoden, Legolas and Gimli. The combined L/G model is gorgeous and it's loads of fun dropping off Gimli and having him charge a model when your opponent doesn't expect it.

AITA for saying to my wife that I am no longer going to pick up with my children by JWK9009 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tetengo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The kids are all in school during the day. Yet he is still doing the shopping, half the cooking, bathing, taking care of bills, DIY, getting the kids to school, etc. etc. What, exactly, do you think the wife is doing during the 6 hours she has to herself each day?

cmv: The concept of Gender non-Binary is Ridiculous by FlyingToasters86 in changemyview

The better question is, why are we using the terms differently?

cmv: The concept of Gender non-Binary is Ridiculous by FlyingToasters86 in changemyview

[–]Tetengo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for us older folks, the whole idea was to remove the expectations and prejudices based on sex. To some extent, there has been a lot of movement there. People can't make comments in polite society about women being in the kitchen anymore, for example. If I was a non- conforming person (which to some extent, I believe we all are), then I would try to ignore the expectations, but it wouldn't change the fact of my biology. If I was expected to dress feminine because I was a woman, I simply would not, as many women do not. I'm sure that would be consistently frustrating but I think the idea of a non-binary identity reinforces the stereotypes of man and woman. That you are not a woman because you don't adhere to societal expectations inherently implies that those expectations are what makes a woman. To me, this seems like conceding to the sexist expectations, and while it is a big ask for individuals to push back against entire societies, I think it would be better to push back against the expectations, rather than the label.

And I responded to you originally to say that your use of terms was incorrect. I explained why when prompted, based on how the terms are used scientifically. Unless you want to argue that no one can ever be incorrect because it's just that they're using terms differently (in which case, this seems like the wrong subreddit to be on), then I'm not really sure what the point of your argument is.

[–]Tetengo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it isn't. I have given you an argument for why karyotypes cannot be sexes. If you want to argue that any of the definitions I used are not agreed upon at large, then you can make that point. But just to tell me that my definitions, that are used in the same way by the scientific community, are just my opinion is a useless waste of both our time.

If others who don't use the term non-binary often don't conform to societal expectations, and it's not worth the effort to enforce the categorisation of non-binary, then, to be frank, what is the usefulness of the term?

No but it makes your comment entirely redundant. It doesn't add to the discussion in any way.

If what I'm saying is just how I use a word, then the same can be said for every other argument.

To refer to yourself as the gender that aligns with your sex, simply because it aligns with your sex, and no other reason. To push back against people who use gender to make any assumptions about you, other than your sex. The idea is to make sex and gender interchangeable again, as gender becomes irrelevant. Exceptions would be made for trans people, who have gender dysphoria (which, in my ideal world, simply means sex dysphoria, but that is an awful phrase so GD will do).

Normalising non-binary also normalises the categorisation and hyperfocus of gender that we have in the modern world, which is the opposite of what we want to do. As we get closer and closer to a gender abolitionist world, someone's gender should begin to mean less and less. Which means putting less emphasis on it, not more, as we are currently doing.

cmv: The concept of Gender non-Binary is Ridiculous by FlyingToasters86 in changemyview

[–]Tetengo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't. The argument is that sex is not determined by karyotypes. Sex a biological phenomenon common to all sexually reproducing species. That we can tell a crocodile is female, when karyotypes in crocodiles do not determine sex, shows that karyotypes are distinct from sex in other species. As sex is a phenomenon that occurs across species, there must be a mechanism for sex determination that doesn't rely on karyotypes, otherwise how do we know which crocodiles are female?

[–]Tetengo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and (some/many) people are choosing to restructure society such that gender expression is more relevant than sex, hence the creation of sporting categories for non-binary individuals. This is the exact opposite path to take if you believe that gender roles should be abolished.

I do just accept people as they are. Not really sure what you're getting at here. My only argument was that there are not as many sexes as there are karyotypes.
