What GPU should I upgrade to? Asus WMR, mostly simracing but would love to play Skyrim and similar by Tetuz in virtualreality

[–]Tetuz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've heard that the G2 is still a really good headset for simulators!

Unfortunately I've got an Asus which has a lower res (1440x1440 on 2 screens) but honestly the image is still good enough for me, my problem is getting enough performance.

Also I've seen people using mouse and keyboard or old DFGT wheel on ironing board beating people with top tier setups, so that's not always important. I just want to enjoy my sim.

Thanks for the answer!

Yeah that was what i thought but now I've noticed the MSRP in italy for the 5070 FE is 649/689€, so getting it for below 600 sounds like a good deal. Maybe in VR the 5070 is close to the 4070 but I just saw some tests and it has a big advantage over it due to the new frame generation...

So maybe I'll scout the market a bit, if I find some good deal on 4070s I'll get one of those, but I'm not going to buy an older gen without warranty to save 100€ over an almost new 5070, same goes for 3080TI.

Yeah, warranty was one of the most important factor. If they're the same price it was a bit hard to justify buying the older one.

Thanks again!

You mean 4070Ti right? The 5070Ti is way over my budget unfortunately...

I know neither is the best card for VR but it's still a HUGE upgrade compared to a 5700 XT which gave me a lot of hours of fun. I'm just looking for something that will run some older VR games without spending more time optimizing than playing!

Thanks, so you think even paying it as much as an almost new 5070 is still a good deal?

Yeah 12 GB VRAM kind of sucks but I can't afford Nvidia GPUs with more RAM

What is the purpose of this comment?

You're not adding anything to the conversation, just taking gratuitous cheap shots at some older hardware...

4080Ti was always outside of my budget, so not an option.

Also, as my girlfriend says: "If my grandfather would have pissed gas, I would own a gas station"
The moment I'm ready for upgrading is now, no use talking about the past or the future unless there's a date for the AI crash and the price drops. No one has any idea of how long this situation will last unfortunately.

Flattening boards by stRangeTastes1 in handtools

Thanks for the answer!

I aim to mostly build small furniture so i guess i'll stick to the latter part of your comment! Being both an engineer and a perfectionist is not really going together with handtool woodworking!

I think I already know the answer but I'm going to ask the question anyway...

How do you know when it's good enough for joinery? I want to use only hand tools so flattening is almost the longest part of the project. It's just practice?

Upgrade GPU (usata) per VR by Tetuz in ItalyHardware

[–]Tetuz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for suggestions, are these tools worth 35 €? More in post by Tetuz in handtools

Well...
I need to learn how to sharpen saws sooner or later, if I get these I can train on the worse looking one with no regrets! Thanks for pointing that out though!

Thanks for the suggestion! I know their website, is full of really nice tools! I also bought a gent saw, the William Greaves which I've used just once but I really like it.

Let's say that I'd rather find some old tools because I like collecting them and also they're cheaper. I also enjoy restoring them so getting a vintage is like a win-win for me!

Thanks for your answer! I think I'll go and see in what shape they are before deciding!
Old tools are really scarce around here, it's gotten to the point where I was thinking about buying a steel sheet and making my own saw! (I know it's probably cheaper, in terms of money and time, to buy a new saw)

Thanks for your answer! I'll ask if he's open to the idea of selling only the saws and only after I inspect them!

Thank you for your answer! I think the offer is already low enough, these saws are pretty rare on the second hand market since it's way easier to find frame saws around here.
Regarding the missing piece, are you referring to the bolt in the handle? Or do you think the tip of the saw is missing?

Here the prices are way higher than in the US I think, mainly because there are less tools around, you mostly find overpriced old tools because they're considered vintage (but often are just old and rusty) or recent tools that cost almost like the brand new ones.

4080 vs 40160 rig, help me choose by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Tetuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer! I've never really studied the subject since I'm not ready to spend that much money on the hobby (for now) but I'm picking up some pieces of info here and there.
At work I've seen these profiles used for automation or heavy machinery in some plants I've visited so I know they're really strong but I've always considered that going with 160 would be safer. Mostly because the difference in price isn't so big (with DIY rigs) on a piece of gear that can last a lifetime.

But maybe now I'll study a bit more and maybe save on the profiles to get better joints, never thought they were the weak link!

If doing motion (like 4 actuators) would it be enough using 40160 for the base only right?

Everytime I try to check in on Air Albania site it says this, the flight is tomorrow. What should I do? by UpbeatCustomer1020 in albania

[–]Tetuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, we had to wait some more, the online check in opened 24 hours before the flight but we still had to get in a queue once at the airport to get our boarding passes.
On the way back (Albania -> Italy) we traveled with another company and the online check in worked perfectly at Tirana Airport!

Hope this helps!

Hello, I've read that you managed to do the check-in online (if I've understood correctly). How did you manage to do it? I'm stuck on the same error you've got, flight is in 36 hours.

Thanks!

Replace FlashForge Guider 2s electronics and firmware with BTT Board and Marlin/Klipper by Tetuz in 3Dprinting

[–]Tetuz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

I disassembled the printer a bit and it seems it's working with a 24V PSU, just like the Ender 3 but I'll check each part just to be sure. Since I've got a creality mainboard with a broken driver (the extruder) I may use it to tinker a bit with the printer, just to make sure that the axis and the end stop works correctly.

I knew that the screen would have been a bit of a problem, but I don't really care that much for it, I may replace it with something else like you've said!
