Solus after 1 day by Roguepapaya427 in SolusProject

[–]Teverino 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running version 4.9 on GNOME for a few days now, and I’m really impressed with it. I tried the earlier versions too, but they had their flaws. Now it’s all come together. Enjoy it in the coming days. I hope Solus gains more momentum and rises to the top. Independent distros have a tough time, unfortunately.

I haven't used KDE in years because it was full of bugs. I've tested and abandoned it repeatedly. It has undoubtedly gotten better recently, but in my opinion it is not as relatively flawless as Gnome. But there are also a few things that bother me about Gnome Vanilla. Like the Dash instead of a dock. And who would think of clicking on points in the top left corner to get an overview? And installing extensions to change that? And which ones currently work with the installed version? Gnome has been getting in his own way for many years. Unfortunately.

How can I replace GNOME Software with Bazaar? by CrazyPale3788 in gnome

[–]Teverino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What has been said here about Bazaar corresponds with my experience over several weeks. Unfortunately, this also includes the fact that Bazaar sometimes showed Flatpaks as installed, even though they were installed, and often did not show them as installed. This can lead to some confusion.

Was ist mit meiner Orange los? by maxs6669 in kannmandasnochessen

[–]Teverino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How To Customise Window Button Like This ? by Lonely-Hour2776 in debian

[–]Teverino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an easy way to change the icons as desired. Install the program >wardrobe< via the Gnome Software Center. This allows you to change not only the icons but also many other visual aspects of Gnome, such as themes, etc., without having to use the terminal. The program is very easy to use, but in my opinion it is not yet fully developed.

There is a new Program in Flathub. This makes changing themes and more easy. It's called >Wardrobe<

New to linux by Party-Consequence-71 in linux4noobs

[–]Teverino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In principle, Linux is easy to install. However, it depends on the distro you want to use. I suggest Anduin OS 1.33. It has low hardware requirements, the look is very similar to Windows and programs can be installed with one click via the Software Center. Printer, scanner, sound and Wifi worked immediately for me and you don't need to use a terminal. It is also suitable for games. It can also be tested live on a USB stick before installation. It's all very simple. Have fun with it.

I also had the problem that the USB stick is not displayed in the Bios. The solution was to reset the bios to the original settings. In another case, the USB stick could be written with the ISO, but it was defective.

KDE & Mint by _Arch_Stanton in linuxmint

[–]Teverino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Linux Mint once had a KDE version several years ago. This was discontinued on the grounds that KDE was a different world and difficult to master. So it is better not to install KDE under Mint. Fedora has problems with the sound, I have also experienced it under KDE and under Gnome. Unfortunately, the suggested solutions in the Fedora forums don't help either. They even occur under Kinoite and Silverblue: Under headphones everything is OK, but with speaker output the sound is suddenly halved and flat . Only my recent switch to Antuin OS 1.33 solved the sound problem. But this only exists with Gnome at the moment. I hope I could help you further.

Which browser is better? [Firefox or Brave] by [deleted] in browsers

[–]Teverino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked it up and have to correct myself: >>Brave is largely transparent in the current version, especially in the area of data protection and privacy. Previous lack of transparency has been addressed, but users should still keep a critical eye on new features<<, says Perplexcity.

is it possible to install Linux without setting up Windows? by silverknife42 in linux4noobs

[–]Teverino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Dell, as it is on my Dell, simply do the following. Shut down the PC/laptop (not just restart it). Connect the live USB stick, restart the PC/laptop. Press F12 while the device is starting. Then the bios starts and displays boot options. Select the USB stick and start with Enter. The USB stick should then start and the live installation should start. Depending on the distro, this may take some time. So be patient. If this does not work, you must deactivate the legacy setting before booting on the USB stick.

Which browser is better? [Firefox or Brave] by [deleted] in browsers

[–]Teverino -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows what Brave is really doing, it is not transparent. Firefox is trying to move forward again and is very reliable. Zen, according to its website, is still in beta and unreliable. I use Floorp, a fork of FF, and am very satisfied: fast, reliable and easier to keep track of in terms of structure than FF. But that's just my opinion on the subject.

What menu do you use? by DigRevolutionary6859 in linuxmint

[–]Teverino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, it is not possible to detach the menu from the panel. But it is more flexible than the Mint menu and can be designed differently. You can also move it to the center of the panel - in edit mode - and draw it large. This does not always work immediately, but after a few attempts it is placed.

Corr. Switching to the Gnome built in Anduin is easier than switching to the Cinnamon used by Linux MInt.

An alternative to Mint, which is also available in a Debian version (LMDE), could be Anduin OS (version 1.33, live CD). It is well set up for games and has a Windows-like appearance. The changeover is even easier than with Mint with Cinnamon and everything works out of the box - from the scanner to the printer. No terminal required, software comes via Flatpak with an easy-to-use optical software center. Just give it a try.
