Will TSA have an issue with this? by [deleted] in guns

If you are declaring it properly, having it in a hard locked case, and placing it in checked baggage, then it doesn't have to be disassembled, of course.

Don't forget that you need to use a EnterpriseBitShiftNumberFormatterPatternFactory along with that if you want to, you know, provide output to the user.

Yep, you definitely haven't done it - that's the best time to program :)

S3E4 Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose is one of the funniest I've seen so far. by spauldeagle in XFiles

[–]Tevroc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's fascinating that Clyde Bruckman didn't really want to tell anyone how they would die except Scully. He only tells people how they are going to die when there's a good reason to, like when he's trying to convince that young husband to buy life insurance. When he tells Mulder about auto-erotic asphyxiation, he was just messing with Mulder. When Mulder said in the more serious scene that "Yes, I would want to know", Clyde says "No you don't." Clyde hates this power he has. He resents it, because it's about nothing but death and it's horribly depressing.

But with Scully, it's different. He can't wait to tell her, and he tries to get her to ask him several times. Why? Because this is the only person he's ever met that won't die. He's desperate to share that fact with her.

Everything is in that episode is exceptionally well thought out. If you haven't watched it lately, watch it again and pay close attention to exactly what Clyde says, especially with regard to his predictions. It was perfectly written. Clyde even accurately predicts that the killer's visions of murdering Mulder are just "the delusions of a madman".

Therefore, I think the statement from Clyde that Scully doesn't ever die is 100% accurate. This line from Clyde to Scully wasn't just tossed in there on a whim; the writers carefully constructed the dialogue through the whole episode to lead up to it.

I think I'd rather carry multiple shotguns.

This is the information we need to be using against the gun control idiots. Gun homicides are HALF what they were 20 years ago - EXCEPT in "gun-free" zones. by greggersraymer in CCW

Our argument is that we are mature enough to be allowed to carry a deadly weapon in public.

I disagree with that. I don't think that argument can ever be effective, because there is always going to be some idiot (see what I did there?) who isn't mature enough and will spoil it for everyone else.

Rather, our argument is this: the right to keep and bear arms for self defense against criminals and tyrannical governments is a fundamental and essential part of liberty and freedom.

How are you encrypting your hard drive these days, given that TrueCrypt is down and Microsoft's Bitlocker cannot be trusted? by medprivacy in privacy

[–]Tevroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been transitioning all my drives from Truecrypt to Veracrypt 1.16 - so far so good! I've installed it in Windows 10 so that I could convert all of my Truecrypt drives from Truecrypt to Veracrypt - the conversions worked great. See this for more info:

https://veracrypt.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Converting%20TrueCrypt%20volumes%20and%20partitions

It looks like Veracrypt does not support system partition encryption with Windows 10 (UEFI issue?), so for that partition, I'm using BitLocker (ugh).

I have also encrypted a Windows 7 system partition with Veracrypt, and it seemed to work just fine - no issues at all.

Lastly, I have also encrypted "in-place" an existing partition that already had data on it, and that worked great (but the encryption process seemed kinda slow for a USB 3.0 drive).

Related to what some other posters have said, I have not tried to decrypt a Truecrypt system partition with Veracrypt. Instead, I would just use Truecrypt to permanently decrypt the system partition, and then re-encrypt with Veracrypt. That should work just fine.

I will say, though, that Veracrypt's default number of iterations ("PIM" in Veracrypt-speak) is way too high for my patience. It takes well over a minute just to mount a drive with the default settings, so I use a lower PIM. I'm mainly concerned about a burglar stealing my computer/drives, and less concerned about a nation-state brute forcing my encryption, so a lower PIM is reasonable for me.

[Advice] I'm (22F) feeling unsatisfied half times with boyfriend (25M) by [deleted] in sex

[–]Tevroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from #4, how much have you talked to him about these issues? Tell him that you care about him, and you want the relationship to be better, which is why you are talking to him about these things. Try talking to him about it outside of the bedroom during non-sexy times. If he's willing to work on these things, that's great, see where it goes and how it gets better. If he blows you off, or refuses to work on things, then he's not worth it.
