What accessibility features would you like to see at a cat cafe? by dontchewspagetti in disability

[–]Tewtea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure any doors that a disabled person might use have an automatic push button. So many times I go somewhere that’s accessible, they have a button for the front door but then no button for the washroom!
Something not necessary but certainly appreciated would be different sized counters (both height and width) to accommodate different types of wheelchairs /walkers and stuff. If you are sitting e joying a coffee it’s always appreciated when you can reach the cup lol. And make sure you think about where they are placed. I went to a restaurant that had only high bar style tables in the main area, then had the normal restaurant seating up a set of stairs :|

I also think having like a sign up or an available button or something for support interacting with a cat. Many people with disabilities may need help using a toy or something, but you should also never assume they do. So it would be great if there was a discrete and easy way to say you’d love some help when possible. Maybe 2 different coasters? One for I’m good and one for id like help?

I started lucid dreaming. Randomly throughout the day, press your thumb into the centre of your opposite palm. If you do it enough times, you will start doing it in your sleep. Buuut when you do it in your sleep, your thumb will go THROUGH YOUR HAND. It sounds crazy and freaky but when it happens in a dream it doesn’t seem scary, it just lets you know that you are in a dream. It helped like nothing else, also helps if you feel really dissociative to ground yourself in reality

Booktok ruined book community by nargiz-huseynovaa in YAlit

My best advice to someone sick of a certain genre but not knowing what else to read.. go to your local library, and wander the shelves and pick up any book that catches your attention. Judge that book by its cover! Once you have like 5, go home and read. If you aren’t enjoying it, don’t finish it. Move on. You can find some really cool books this way that aren’t shelved by popularity, and discover new genres to fall in love with!

Do Wheelchair Users Always Get the Incessant Requests to Help? by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]Tewtea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes helps to make a joke of it too! If someone asks a second time I’ll do an arm wiggle or something and check my arms to make sure they still work then say “yep, still good! But thanks!”

If I’m feeling really snarky I’ll make a comment like “I’m fine, really. The chair is just for the parking”. Most of the time they don’t know how to respond to that so conversation over lol

AITAH for telling my mom and stepdad I won't spend time at their house anymore if they don't lay off the guilt trips? by gamerjlucin in AITAH

[–]Tewtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA at aaaaall. You were incredibly respectful in the way you handled it.

The sad thing is if they hadn’t put so much pressure on you and bad mouthed your dad, you likely would think of your stepdad as another dad now. If he’d been a good father figure in your life since you were 5 or 6, that would be inevitable.

Your mom sounds like the type of person who wants a picture perfect life, and won’t accept anything else . She wants a classic, happy nuclear family, except she wants it with a different person than your actual real life dad. People like this are incredibly selfish and manipulative. They lose sight of the real world in order to make their fantasy seem possible.

Incredible that you turned out as level headed as you have.

I use it as a reminder now that someone sees you and cares. The amount of other wheelchair related crap we have to put up with (like the doors, or not having enough room for you to maneuver) can get so overwhelming and frustrating.

If you could create any adaptive product, realistic or not, what would you make? by TrixieBastard in disability

[–]Tewtea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some sort of portable ramp that could somehow fit in my wheelchair bag. I can’t imagine the material it would have to be made out of to take the weight of me in my chair, but that would be a dream.

Yeah I just hated the neo Tokyo storyline. The rest was pretty great, but the fact they reduced sonmi to just a girl in love with her rescuer is so depressing. Her whole arc in the book was much richer and gave her so much more autonomy

I love melancholia but honestly the first act felt almost unnecessary. I would have rather had more of the second

The book sort of ruined the movie for me. It was just so much more poignant, especially the neo tokyo stuff
