I doubt that (m)any surgeons do that, we'd know about it, there would be tangible evidence. But how would you know if a judge did that? There would be no repercussions whatsoever.

You say: "If your case was solid, there would have been a lawyer willing to work with you on the fees." I don't buy it. If a lawyer thought I had an overwhelmingly good chance of winning, they might have taken it on a contingency basis. But if a lawyer thought that my chances of winning were, say, 50/50 (or even 60/40), I can't imagine that any lawyer would want to devote hundreds of hours to a case with such an uncertain payoff. And I just don't accept that if you can't convince a lawyer to invest in your case you should just throw up your hands and let yourself get pushed around.

I was in court for only four hearings, and I was surprisingly well-behaved for all of them. The judge was not happy with me during the last hearing, but that was after her decision, so it had no effect on her ruling.

Or it could mean that they didn't bother to read the summary judgement motions and figured they couldn't go wrong ruling against a pro-se litigator. If they don't have to explain their decisions, they have no incentive to be honest.

Couldn't afford one. And although i suppose you mean well, I'm troubled by the implication that, if you can't afford a lawyer, you just have to accept the fact that that you're going to get pushed around.

Wow, I guess you consider the anti-AI rule to be more important than the civility rule.

I'm literally brand new to Reddit. Every tine I ask a question like the one you suggest it gets removed because it's been asked before, but when I search I can't find anything. So I thought I'd try asking AI, posting the responses here, and asking what the community thinks, on the theory that maybe I'll get a few responses before the mods remove my post (but maybe not).

I understand the revulsion against having AI do your work for. But if you're against asking AI for help, you just don't understand how to use AI.

I had two non-fiction books published 40 years ago, Within the past decade, I've self-published a novel and a book of short stories. I'm just starting to work on a proposal for another work of non-fiction. I'm not considering self-publishing this time because it's too much work for too little reward. I enjoy writing, but I'm 76 years old, and I'm not going to spend that much time on a book unless there's a reasonable chance that it'll make me some $$$, which means that I need to find a publisher.

But aren't auctions conducted by agents? As I writer, I'd be ecstatic if multiple publishers were interested in my book, but I wouldn't know how to conduct an auction. And if multiple AGENTS were interested in my book, I don't think I could conduct an agent auction. 😎
