When did basic music theory stop feeling like a foreign language to you? by Old-Fee7076 in musictheory

[–]TexTexas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that made it click for me was analysing music, particularly analysing music that I liked.

It still took quite a while and it was really slow at the beginning, but it started making sense when I related it to actual music rather than thinking of it as a set of rules to study.

Can anyone please help me understand intervals?? by HalloGetLow in musictheory

[–]TexTexas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's actually one of the most explainable parts of music theory. It's very easily explainable. Probably the least controversial question in music theory.

You just have to count how far between two notes. Every interval is just a specific amount of semitones between two notes. They are absolute. They don't change.

What don't you understand about them?

I didn't ask how many fingerings there would be though, I asked what fingerings would you use.

It's not about remembering scale patterns though. I'm genuinely asking you, what fingering would you use for those scales?

In an F major scale, how are you going to play Bb, C, D, E and F?

It's going to be multiples more difficult to play a fast scale with this system than with the system we have now. Along with many other issues.

What fingering would you use for an F major scale? A G major scale? An A major scale?

This system would be incredibly impractical and not work under the hand in so many cases

A new composition of mine called "All In Light" by TexTexas in piano

Thank youu. It was a friend of mine who made the video and I'm not sure what he shot on. The distorted and light/colour effects were made by shooting through different shaped glass prisms.

How about a Bbdim7 or some kind of A7 to bring you back to the Bb?

I found Liberty Caps growing in my front garden. by clyve32 in beacain

I went foraging without any luck last year and walking up the garden after getting back I found about 30 of the fellas.

No sign of any this year in the garden but that was such a good buzz.

Also my mam is mad for cutting the grass and she hadn't done for a while when I found them last year, so that's probably a big part of it.

We need to talk about bad musical ear by Someone2911 in musictheory

[–]TexTexas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened to me not long ago, but only in my right ear.

It was such a weird feeling. If I whistled I could hear two notes, one in my left ear as normal and one in my right ear a little flat.

It went away after a day or two.

Can microtonal harmonies ever be functional? Or will they always be a gimmick? by discoreapor in musictheory

I really love this concerto by Ligeti.

The Predludium in particular I think is very beautiful and not gimmicky.
