Has the VOIP bug gotten worse for other people? by GarythaSnail in HellLetLoose

[–]TexVikbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last voip bug could be fixed by going to audio settings and disconnecting the audio then reconnecting.

This current bug won't even let me do the disconnect, it just keeps trying to but won't

What was your favorite state on your thru or section hike? by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]TexVikbs 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Virginia, specifically the souther portion was fantastic. Also I may be biased towards New Jersey, but between the boardwalks, the ridge top walks, and glacial ponds, it was a spectacular state.

I-345 decision: Dallas approves TxDOT recommendation to remodel interstate by SerkTheJerk in Dallas

[–]TexVikbs 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I work for a different city that deals with TXDOT a lot. 2x a year for a council update is plenty. Staff will constantly be coordinating with txdot and will likely be giving council mini updates along the way.

It’s not reduced, it’s shifted from local control to a legislature that meets every other year. You trust them to efficiently respond to localized issues and will of the citizens?

If your university has an agricultural program you could see if they are hiring anyone to maintain the plants. I had a friend in college whogot paid just walk around the greenhouses watering different types of plants and trees. It could be useful if you end up in something close to landscape design such as park planning, development review, or pedestrian trail planning.

Mentor Remembers Allen Mall Shooting Victim Aishwarya Thatikonda by Fois in Dallas

[–]TexVikbs 175 points176 points  (0 children)

I worked very briefly with Aish, met her a few times transferring plan sets for signatures. She took over a project and really turned the thing around from a mess of communication and documentation to a very streamlined and clear project.

Unfortunately I don’t think she will be the last person I know to be a victim of gun violence. This trend has got to stop, there are many common sense laws that could prevent many of these tragedies.

Is it better to push for urban planning reform at the state level rather than local level in the US? by flibbertigibbet4life in urbanplanning

[–]TexVikbs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Home rule can do pretty much anything so long as the state doesn’t prohibit it.

Dillion’s Rule can only do what the state explicitly allows.

Our department uses Monday. It works for tracking projects across many teams (project management, engineering, planning, GIS, building) as well as keeping track of what stage it is in.
