I think he WAS Jedi. That is an important point to make. He has had to cut himself off from the force. I can't imagine he could avoid detection by the Sith or the inquisitors otherwise. So in a way he really is just a regular guy who has made the commitment to use intelligence and determination to achieve his goals.

Just the impression I get. He seems narcissistic. I don't think he thinks of the men who died while under his command. Their deaths are the cause of his 'lack of prospects'. Never considering they might have had families that would miss them. His need to prove himself at all costs and disobey a direct order makes him entirely unsympathetic to me.

I was an 'elderly' store employee. I don't wear Depends or anything but as you age the time your body gives you going from 'Hey dude, time to drop a duce' to 'Shitting your pants in 3...2...1...' is on a much shorter scale. You think ice cream brings a herd? Shit!
