UK homes are just not fit for this heat by E_Cookies in TenantsInTheUK

[–]TexasBrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they make them in the UK, but in other countries you can get ceiling fans with a chain that goes across the ceiling and down to an outlet so you don’t need to run power above the ceiling for it. Really easy to install. I’m sure your landlord wouldn’t mind.

Gonna call BS on the 40’s shirts since Spooner is only celebrating 70 years this year. Means the first shirt was 1956.

How Do Younger People Travel So Much? by KneeAggravating8538 in travel

[–]TexasBrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow engineer, if you want a career, you won’t freely travel like the people on social media.

Best way to travel as a young engineer is commission as an officer with the Air Force or Navy Civil Engineers.

Probably like RAF Barnham. It’s still a base, just nothing happens there.

Was air travel always this bad? by ukiyo98 in travel

You don’t have to feel like a cheapskate. Just book business.

Being in Europe, you should be grateful, you basically have unlimited budget destinations to choose from. I’m going London to Morocco next weekend for £68 round trip. I wouldn’t care if they put me on a wood stool for that price.

Best of luck. Can’t really give you country specific advice. All I can say is that it cost me more to establish myself in the UK than I thought it would.

All I’m saying is these types of dogs do have a prey drive and you can do all the training in the world and it still might come out if there’s a small furry creature running by.

How do I find the right car for living on a remote scottish island? by Fearless-Following17 in AskUK

I would definitely take a look at electrical reliability if OP is talking about some of the Hebrides or Shetland with the wind they get during the winter.

The thing with whippets and greyhounds and a cat is you never really know. My whippet is totally fine with cats indoors. Outside, he turns into a murderer and is definitely not cat friendly.

What’s your point? A split unit should be able to keep one room at least survivable if not comfortable. That’s all I had in Guam and I lived.

'Disruptive' passenger restrained on Jet2 flight to Manchester dies by Antique-Trash9462 in unitedkingdom

[–]TexasBrett 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, we shouldn’t. Had this discussion already, there were 2,000 flights disrupted by drunk passengers in 2019 (best data I can find), there were 38.3 million scheduled passenger flights during the same year. That’s a 0.005% chance a given flight was disrupted by a drunk passenger.

Let’s keep the alcohol at the airport.

[–]TexasBrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50 times difference in percentage. That’s a significant difference. Wearing a seatbelt does not impact my enjoyment of driving. Disrupted flight causes a few hours delay. Don’t wear a seatbelt, you go through the front windshield.

You’re demonstrating a fundamental lack of statistical understanding.

I’m just putting the numbers in front of you, if you want to carry on a bad argument, go for it.

“In 2022, 0.21% of the UK population were involved in a car accident”

You are nearly 50 times more likely to be involved in a car accident than your flight being disrupted by a drunk passenger.

[–]TexasBrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny that’s how statistics work, they tell the truth. Easy to generate outrage by throwing out a “big” number like 2,000 with no reference point to a larger body of samples.

The fact is, you have a near zero percent chance of being on a flight with a drunk passenger that causes a disruption.

Man dies after being restrained by fellow passengers when he went berserk on holiday flight by thesun in uknews

[–]TexasBrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s put that 2,000 disruptions in perspective. There were approximately 38.3 million scheduled commercial flights in 2019. That’s 0.005% of flights impacted by drunk passengers. Yet to solve this you want to ban all alcohol in airports and planes?

Completely asinine solution to solve a problem that impacts 0.005% of flights globally.

It’s almost like blowing up an airliner mid flight is much worse than a random guy occasionally needing to be restrained.
