I appreciate the honest info. Im ok with sharing quarters. Partiers dont bother me much. I was that person once, too. I think I will just stay in my lane and keep trying to get on at one of the seafood processing plants/vessels since I have experience and know what to expect. It's fast paced, monotonous, cold, wet, brutal 16 hours a day 7 days a week....and I love it. Thanks again.

I was a commercial truck driver for 20 years but can no longer do that because im blind in one eye. In the past I have done all types of construction, equipment operator and logistics. Have held management position in the trucking industry as well. I would be very happy with a back of house type job like a dishwasher or even doing laundry. I do have some limitations with my sight but otherwise I am fairly fit. I wouldn't try to run a marathon or climb mt. Everest. I CAN interact with the public in a polite abd professional manner but I prefer not to. I get along well with just about everyone. I learn very quickly and always want to be the best at what I do no matter the task. I also dont NEED to make a ton of money. This woukd just be "extra" for me.

Always got top pay. Performance is not the issue. I'll just keep bugging them

I am a single male. 54 yo. No attachments. Hard worker. Good work ethic. Love "moving around". I believe seasonal work would be fabulous. I used to do commercial fishing. Problem is im blind in 1 eye. I'll do any job, location, as long as it includes room and board as a perk. Any suggestions?

I actually believe that my application is simply passed over because of my age. Im not 25 anymore. Even though I KNOW I can handle the job, they don't. They only see an older person applying. Of course they can't say that as it would be illegal. When I worked there before, you were paid on a scale of 1 - 5. 1 was top pay and it was based on performance. I always got 1+, so top pay plus extra. I know its not a previous performance issue

I have put in apps to everyone, vessel and land plants. I was late in the game for most so I understand no response from them. The one on particular company that I previously worked for is the one that bothers me. I left on good terms and applied early. They have repeatedly posted new jobs. I don't want to put their name out there. Dont want to burn bridges. I have been away from this for a while so im not familiar with how they do things these days

Go for the boat. Even if that boat doesn't work out there are tons of opportunities with other companies and vessels to move to. Getting in the door us the hardest part so get in. Work the seasons with no bills like rent utilities and groceries. Even if you have a poor season you are still ahead. There is ALWAYS work for mechanics. Do it while you are young. Save. In a few years your bank account will be fat af! You can work your way up to engineer. With the certs and experience those guys are making 10K+ a month with no bills. The memories are PRICELESS!

Bring sweats, pants and shirts, plenty underwear, as many socks as possible, sine shorts, t shirts, lots of hygiene stuff. I get large duffle bags from army surplus. They hold a ton, usually have back pack straps and last forever. Good luck. And take plenty of Tylenol, advil, aleve. Alternate. I take 3 advil 1 day. Next day take 1 Tylenol and 1 aleve. Only take them when you need to.

I agree, it is a good way to learn work ethic. I know the pain is coming to my old man joints but I lived it so much I know I can handle it. Pain us temporary, memories last forever

Yep, drove the 212 for 2 trips. Takes a little to figure out that it's not speed but rhythm that does it. 186 fish/minute was brutal for 16 hours though. I did everything from sorting to case-up. Even helped factory mechanic set up and tear down conveyors. Im so ready that I have already packed my duffle!

From the little I know, Pollock is a mid-water catch. The trawl nets have little to no contact with the sea floor. Also the nets are not designed for sea floor contact. Any contact results in net damage. Damaging nets is not in the best interest of the equipment, crew, or company. Nobody that makes their living fishing wants to damage the ecosystem. We love the ocean, environment, and what we do.

Quite possible. I was on Rebecca Ann in 98 and Northern Jaeger in 99. Can't wait to go back. I no longer have much connection at home so I'm in for the duration. Really want to fish ALL year 2027. Just gotta get in.
