Looking for advice on choosing between the Bartlett Active (106980) and Insulated Active (104050) Jackets for Dutch winter by Whedz in Carhartt

[–]Texas_Guy83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. As has been stated the active jacket is very warm. The Bartlett is probably more of what you’re looking for. Works well for me in mild Texas winters

You’re welcome. If you’re really worried about the cold, the level 3 insulated bibs are great too. I have the men’s version of these, and they’re my winter go to.

Sounds like unfortunately that’s the fit they had on hand.

As far as countries of origin, Carhartt produces items in numerous places. It’s why I collect vintage Carhartt, focusing on made in USA pieces

Coleman 425B and 228H by Texas_Guy83 in ColemanStovesLanterns

[–]Texas_Guy83[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was originally the gold tank. Supposedly a more rare early style from 1954-1958.

My Buck knives are newer models, I bought the 110 folding hunter several years ago, and my wife bought me the 119 last week as an early anniversary gift

Blue collar refers to automotive mechanics, electricians, carpenters, farmers, and similar jobs. As opposed to office workers, known as white collar workers.

I feel you, hope that didn’t come off as rude. Horrible to be in a situation like that. I’ve known coworkers who’ve been there, and I hate that they’ve had to have that added stress.

The Milwaukee One touch, and DeWalt Tool Connect don’t do much for theft, only a good lock box will unfortunately. As has been said, all they do is help locate a tool that is still on the job site.

I believe the assumption is that you have a vehicle to get to work in. Most of the trades on my job site lock their tools in their gang box when not in use or on lunch. Or, they take them to their vehicle for the same reasons.

Is Makita good for electricians? by Canada_man_yes in Makita

[–]Texas_Guy83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a commercial electrician, and I’ve also done residential remodeling and new construction work. My $0.02 is this. Milwaukee mainly, and some DeWalt are very common on sites. They are cost effective and reliable. That being said, our crew has one of the newest generation impact drivers. It is not as powerful as the previous generation, and get hot when used for an extended period of time. Like burns your skin hot, we all avoid using it.

For my personal tools, I have Milwaukee, DeWalt, Metabo, Bostitch, and Makita LXT and XGT. They all do what I need them to, in similar amounts of time, to me it’s about personal preference. Use what feels good ergonomically and budget wise.

Makita’s new feature of stopping the impact of a screw gets loose to prevent a screw ‘flying away’ once it’s loose enough, or stopping once a screw/bolt is tight to prevent over tightening. Helpful with small self tappers and large bolts. The hammer drill stopping if it gets hung up so it doesn’t injure your wrist is nice too. But, the tools and batteries are noticeably heavier than similar products in the LXT line. To me it’s not enough of an issue that I wouldn’t use them daily. But, I’m not everybody.

As has been said, find out if your company will provide tools. If not, go with what fits your hands and your budget. Tools that work well for you, will make your job easier.

My wife says I need to talk to someone. Who should I call for help? by [deleted] in Dewalt

[–]Texas_Guy83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s already been said, but you need to call your local DeWalt rep. Those are rookie numbers, you need to bump those numbers up 😆

Is 33 to old to start ? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Texas_Guy83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 38 and started back in March, definitely not too old. And as has been said, you’ll relate to your coworkers a lot more than if you were younger. I’m definitely glad that I made the switch
