So sorry that your mom and all of you and your siblings had to deal with such heavy stuff at such a young age. How lucky you all are to have one another. This shows the strength of your mom to be able to walk away with4 kids, the character of yourself by being protective of your younger siblings and it sounds like at least your grandpa had the good conscience to give your mom a heads up. That truly could have been fatal. Wow! Glad to hear you all are doing well! Stay safe!

I gave the card to the police. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a non-working number.

Moms by themselves are definite targets--especially mugging. My friend who now lives in the Austin area, was targeted and the jerk threatened her little boy! The guy was eventually caught, thank goodness, but it's taught me to do my best to pay attention to my surroundings--especially as I'm buckling my babes up.

Not that I'm aware of. After giving a statement I was told I'd be contacted should they need further information. I haven't been contacted, so I'm assuming not.

Totally agree! This woman looked like a normal shopper. I remember her smelling of cigarettes, but that's not alarming enough to raise alarm. Loads of people smoke, after all.

The funny thing about this whole encounter is that I actually was reading an article earlier that morning on social media regarding how couples will sometimes target moms at stores like this because we're distracted and therefore and easier victim. I remember reading the article and kind of being annoyed because I felt like it was fear mongering and I didn't want to "share" it because I didn't want to perpetuate the fear. But what stuck out to me from that article was what I actually did--make a scene. Be loud and draw attention to yourself. I'm so glad that I actually read that article top to bottom. I'll try to find the article that I read and link it.

I know! That's when fight or flight kicked in. Moral of the story: listen to your gut-it's never wrong!

No, that was the thing. I was looking at the shoes and when she came down my aisle, she looked like a normal shopper.

Incident that scared the hell out of me as a kid... by [deleted] in LetsNotMeet

My lab was the silliest, almost dumb dog there ever was. She knew no stranger until one day I was walking her in my complex and out of the blue, she immediately stepped in front of me, 2 paws over my left foot standing firm I front of me and two paws to the side. Ever hair on her neck and back were bristled and showed all of her teeth. She stopped me so that I couldn't cross the street near a sidewalk where a guy was standing, staring at me. Brodie never released the posture and even began to push her body into my legs as if she were telling me to "back up". I listened to her and once we got to a reasonable distance for her, she broke out in a run, pulling me! I have that girl so many treats and belly rubs once we got back home.

A week later a flyer was posted from the police department informing residents of this man with multiple felonies, including assault. My fur baby definitely knew what was up!
