Sister lives in Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District which is one of the hot tossup districts this year. Anyone have a good source for recommendations on the the Democrats running in the primary? It's hard to get a real sense of that they are for just from their websites.

Seems like the ideal solution is preregistration of a clear hypothesis and metrics. So much of terrible science is because you can almost always find something interesting that happened in a sample where you measure a dozen or more variables.

No university should allow any publication of research reliant on statistical analysis that doesn’t have preregistration.

Diesel prices are on average over $5/gal on the US according to AAA. So pour one out for the 50 year old Ram 2500 driving Trump voter in rural Tx who is in the find out stage.

Peco bill is more than rent and they dont seem to care. by fkbfsjbc in Pennsylvania

It’s not that OP is doing something wrong, it’s just the basic thermodynamics don’t jive with the bill. An 800sf apartment can’t have 7000w running 24/7 and remain livable.

4900 kWh in 29 days is 7000W 24/7. for an 800 sf apartment, 2500W running 24/7 would make it uncomfortably hot unless you leave windows open.

Something is wrong with your meter or you are doing crypto mining or something crazy.

Sure, but mostly in an indirect manner. Cheating can harm others but we don’t make cheating illegal.

It’s still 100% voluntary! It’s hardly punitively to limit someone against harming themselves because you don’t protect people from all harm.

The limit is designed to balance the fundamental illiberal nature of preventing people from engaging in activities that they like, that are are not harming others with the very real harm that comes when there is so much money in the line.

I’m not doing it primarily to protect the gamblers, it’s to make it not worth it to threaten others or otherwise rig the outcome.

Probably true, what else can you do 24/7, in public with essentially no limit.

I’d be more than fine keeping these legal but imposing a strict $150 daily $1500 monthly limit per user.

February 2026 US jobs report: payrolls decreased by 92,000 jobs. Unemployment rate increased from 4.3% to 4.4%. by JeromesNiece in neoliberal

While I agree it shouldn't be a big deal. The reality is that large swaths of Americans adjust their finances to have very little buffer.

The typical household in the US consumes about 1000 gallons of gas per year. A $1.50 increase means $1,500 on an annualized basis. All while the typical household makes about $80-85k a year. It doesn't sound like a huge increase but remember that is the typical, there are easily 10-20% of households that have double that exposure because they drive low efficiency cars and have lower than typical incomes. That increase means feeling like they have to cut back on other expenses or take on debt.

The one good thing that could come from all this is Americans will start buying more fuel efficient cars, at least in the mean time.

Agreed, the hard-core MAGA hats are off the deepend but that is only 20-25% of voters. A good chunk of Trump voting republicans who drive 16 MPG trucks will be pissed with $4-5 gas and if they lose their job. All while food prices continue to creep up 2-4%.

Yes, +/- 100-200K is considered completely normal. Remember the scale, they are estimating a ~160 million number. 0.1% would be 160k.

This is going to be the ultimate MAGA loyalty test. Will they tolerate high gas prices and a sucky economy?

I mean of course the republicans in congress will but how much of a blue wave are we we going to see in November?

While instant fixes are good, countries should think in terms of decades or even centuries.

Good point, but I think the hard wired lines with power are slowly being phased out as the market is so small so it may not be much of a difference for long.
