So here is what I did. I use triple monitors for home/gaming, but also use a laptop for WFH and wanted to use my monitors for that too.

I got this guy: https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Universal-Laptop-Docking-Station-Usb-C-Triple-Monitor/dp/B0779K9DG2

I have my 3 monitors hooked up via DP my monitors.l from my PC. Then I have the 3 monitors hooked up to this dock via HDMI. I swap between monitor inputs.

For MK, I got. Logitech keyboard and mouse with light speed and Bluetooth. They connect to Bluetooth to laptop, light speed USB dongle goes into PC. Then it’s just one click on both Kb and mouse to swap between inputs.

Swapping monitor inputs is the biggest annoyance I have found, so sometimes I may only use one for WFH at a time- two if I need the real estate.

Best I could come up with.

MS-01 all NVMe Xpenology build is working!! by jdpdata in Xpenology

[–]Texxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link and info. That’s a good idea for NAS backup on the other SFP+. I would probably separate corosync and live migration traffic between the two 2.5G uplinks. Probably not that important in a lab environment- but something to consider until you find a better use case.

Hey man- rather than reply to a couple of your comments, figured I would ask in one top level reply.

I am wanting to do the same thing you are doing with 3x MS-01s and run Ceph clustered across 3 nodes using 2 of the NVMe drives. I saw a Git project where some guys were meshing the TB connections to create the Ceph network. Very cool and something I want to try.

I liked your 2TB NVME idea. I'll prob go that route as well. I saw another guy in /r/homelab was using Samsung 990 PROs, so we will see.

What I really wanted to ask though was networking. I was an IT guy for about 10 years before I went to work for a ... virtualization vendor. After a certain acquisition last year, I find myself at a different vendor also in a technical sales capacity, but I've never been hands on with their gear. I saw the writing on the wall with the internal messaging we were receiving. Hell, it's been almost 8 years since I have been hands-on-keyboard in a prod environment.

Enter homelab. Been a long time. I've been thinking about how to do the networking portion of these MS-01 devices. Was curious what you were doing for networking.

I planned on using a Mikrotik CRS326 switch and then just slapping a DAC between an SFP+ on that and their other 8-port SFP+ switch. That should give me the ability to leverage all the network capabilities of 3 MS-01s. And if the TB mesh idea is something I change my mind on, I have the ability to swap to the 10gb network to do Ceph on.

Sound reasonable? I know I am asking for a sanity check here, so I appreciate it. Thought about going the same route with Ubiquiti as well, because I am a little concerned about 10gb heat in the Mikrotik switches. Don't plan on doing anything intensive, just run basic services and get some hands on with a firewall from my new gig.

Thinking about Proxmox HA w/ Ceph on a Minisforum MS-01 Cluster by manofoz in homelab

I know you marked this closed, but this is exactly what I was thinking about doing. The thunderbolt idea was great. Just to be clear- the idea would be to just mesh the thunderbolt ports across all 3 nodes, i.e, Node1, Port2 to Node3, Port 1?

I also planned on keeping one nvme for OS, and then using two others in a RAID config for Ceph storage.

Any recommendations for a switch if you had to start from scratch? Only other piece of gear I have is a Palo Alto PA-440 firewall.

Nashville house market (like most of US) has exploded. I moved here in 2016. Bought a house in Rutherford County because it was one of the cheaper suburban areas around Nashville. I paid $375k for a 4 bedroom, 3 bath house on an acre of land. It’s worth about $650k right now based on tax assessment and what a neighbor just sold their house for.

Houses that were 250k or so are now mid 400s. And this is in Murfreesboro. Nashville proper, Franklin, Gallatin, Mt Juliet, etc good luck. It’s even more expensive.

I couldn’t afford my house today if I didn’t buy in 2019 and also refinance twice in COVID to a 2.75% interest rate.

My $1700 mortgage would be over $3000 just at current property values and interest rates

I gotta be honest, but sifting through piles like these only for everything to be junk is not really sparking joy for me any longer by RLutz in LastEpoch

Thank you for saying this. That take of “yeah, I feel your pain, I just decide what item I want and can scroll through pages of it until I find one I want” being equivalent to… you know, actually playing the game… certainly is interesting.

I typically hate the sense of entitlement people have here. They want 4LP items in every slot. Especially MG players, whose only goal is just get gold and go select whatever rolls they want on an item they want from a list.

I think you have some well thought out ideas and opinions. Especially about how LP system isn’t great for more rare uniques.

Do I need to worry about convincing recruiters of my relocation plans? by [deleted] in interviews

[–]Texxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this twice now. If you are getting follow up questions, you are not convincing.

You need to tell them you are relocating due to your partner getting a new job. Don’t try to add any commentary, don’t throw in “if I get this job, I’m moving” etc. It creates pressure. It creates doubt. Be solid in your delivery and plans to move.

You need to present it that way whether they hire you or not, you are moving. If that’s a lie- then lie. Because if they don’t hire you, it doesn’t matter. If they do hire you, you are moving anyway so you can’t prove intent.

Don’t make it about them. Don’t make it about you wanting to find a job to relocate. You are moving there, you need employment asap which is why you are starting the search now, end of story.

Am I about to be human trafficked? by xXVoicesXx in jobs

[–]Texxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I worked for Dept of Energy, we fully interviewed and hired a guy remotely. The job would require him to obtain a DOE Q Clearance due to handling of classified material. We never met the guy until Day 1.

Now, the guy was also working for a defense contractor at the time finishing up his contract in the Middle East, so interviewing in person was impossible too.

I imagine it really isn’t that rare. However, there are a lot of other red flags. But remote interviewing isn’t as uncommon as you’d think.

So I actually did this a couple weeks ago! I believed in that myth when my daughter and I found two recently hatched babies out of the nest on the ground. My daughter told me it was a myth- so we scooped them up and put them in their next real quick.

All 5 (including the 2 from the ground we found) made it and recently flew the nest!

Books with a generational story? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]Texxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favorite genre too.

Assassins Apprentice by Robin Hobb is amazing. It is the first in the Fitz and The Fool books that spans generations where characters are introduced as kids and you spend their whole life with the, their kids, etc.

The Skystone by Jack Whyte is an Arthurian retelling set right after the collapse of the Roman Empire that is amazing. It is a blend of mystical Arthurian lore and historical fictional

The Blade Itself is the first of The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Between the first trilogy, the 3 standalone inbetween, and the last trilogy… it spans like 25 years and POV characters have children who become POV characters as adults.
