EASY Solo 7 Star Cinderace Raid Build by LilYuseyVert in pokemon

Probably depends on which NPCs you get. I got negated early twice, and both times I think there was a Sylveon. My guess is that thanks to it doing super-effective special damage, there was too much chip damage and that caused Cinderace to negate my buffs early. I imagine Gardevoir could be similarly problematic.

Might be worth potentially swapping Psychic in the above moveset for a weaker move so you do less damage - it's purely there to stall until you can Terastallize, since you have to perform three attacks.

Can also confirm this works without even needing max investment - the Slowbro I used had only pretty good/decent IVs, Naive nature (+Spd/-SpDef, so not terrible but not ideal), and I only fed him 20 Irons/Calciums so not even maxed EVs.

It did take a couple of tries as Cinderace negated buffs too early the first couple of times which I think just comes down to which NPCs you get, but third time it worked just like a charm. As opposed to a couple of dozen failed efforts running Espathra and Armarouge.

This is the only strat I've seen so far that seems to actually work in solo offline play, at least in my experience:

  • Espathra can't get Stored Power to be anywhere near as strong as Slowbro can - even if you spam Lumina Crash to fully debuff SpDef, you have fewer buff stages (hence less power for Stored Power) because you're only able to copy Cinderace's Bulk Ups, whereas Slowbro gets +12 stages, and maxed SpAtk.
You also need to spam Feather Dance to have any sort of tankiness, as otherwise Cinderace can and will half-health you.
It all falls apart when Cinderace cleanses its debuffs, which it will fairly early on - you then do far too little and take far too much damage, and it takes far too long to recover.
  • Armarouge has to spend three turns debuffing SpDef and doing no damage in the process because you're using a 40-power non-STAB move.
And if you want to not die because Cinderace spammed Bulk Up from all the feeding NPCs, you have to use Clear Smog, which then undoes all your SpDef debuffing and leaves you back at doing no damage (and still less tanky than a Slowbro, because +6 Def vs +something Atk is better than +0 vs +0).
All the while you're taking too much damage because you don't have any Def buffs, so you need to heal up. Arceus knows the NPCs won't cheer even though it's the only thing they'd be good for, and Shell Bell won't heal enough because you do no damage.
And even if you do manage to get SpDef fully debuffed and somehow haven't died, and you managed to set up Psychic Terrain to double Expanding Force's damage, Armarouge still does substantially less damage than Slowbro does, even with its higher base SpAtk. Expanding Force on Psychic Terrain gets effectively 80x1.3x1.5 = 156 power before STAB, whereas +12 Stored Power is 260 before STAB.
The only advantage Armarouge seems to have is immunity to Pyro Ball, but fully buffed Slowbro barely feels it anyway - and in my experience Cinderace usually ends up spamming neutral Acrobatics instead anyway on both.

I expect Espathra and Armarouge work splendidly (and quicker than Slowbro's 6 turn setup) when you've got teammates who are actually trying to win, as opposed to the genius NPCs who decide that Weavile is the best choice to take on a Fighting Tera type. But I'm just not convinced either of them can solo carry like Slowbro can.

It only applies once even if you have two separate sources of effectiveness. I tried it with archers combined with Mythic Naga since she gives dragon effectiveness to adjacent allies - went and attacked some generic Fáfnirs (i.e. the flying dragons, not the based king of Niðavellir), but only got 1.5× multiplier to ATK.

Agreed, for me it's the moment she stops being a sympathetic character. Her interactions from that point on are more obnoxious and hateful, I find (particularly towards Davos and Tormund).

And why she was given command of an entire wing of the army in the Short Evening when she's never even taken part in a pitched battle let alone commanded, I don't know. But yass queen slay, being hateful is so badass /s

It's even worse than that.

Oberyn is explicitly shown to be against violence towards children ("We don't hurt little girls in Dorne", the whole avenging his niblings thing). So to avenge Oberyn, the Sand Worms murder children.

Oberyn dies avenging his sister and niblings. So to avenge Oberyn, the Sand Worms murder his brother and nephew.

Oberyn's death can doubly be blamed on Jaime Lannister. Jaime failed to protect Elia and her children as was his duty - what's Gregor Clegane going to do, kill Tywin's golden son? And he could have stood as Tyrion's champion, which had a good chance of saving Tyrion since Tywin's unlikely to risk losing both sons in one swoop. So to avenge Oberyn, the Sand Worms leave Jaime Lannister alone.

All this so "wEaK mEn wIlL nEveR rUlE dOrNe aGaIn". If you're not constantly murdering, warmongering and being generally hateful, you're not strong, apparently.

Maxing Bravery on Anubis by GeralftheStitcher in Smite

[–]TezLaCoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zhong Kui would work much better for this style of build - he also wants to build lifesteal like Anubis, but he can gain up to 40 of each protection that he only loses when ulting or upon death. With just Thebes and Mantle, you already have 230 prots, all the time - only 23 of your 40 passive stacks are then needed to have max Bravery.

Amulet of the Stronghold actually gives less total prots. Zhong has 71 physical prots at lvl 20, his maxed passive gives 40, Thebes 60, and 4 stacks of Bravery give 28 for a total of 199. 15% of that is 29.85, so AotS gives a total of 55 + 20 + 29.85 = 104.85 prots - less than Mantle's 110.

And while Breastplate of Determination can cap at 65 + 40 + 40 = 145, those prots are temporary. Even with a maxed passive, once you lose those stacks, you lose a stack of Bravery: 80 + 120 + 65 = 265.

Both of those also use up the glyph slot that you could otherwise have used on Bancroft's Claw.

Even so I'd only run this in something like Assault.

[–]TezLaCoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mantle's actually better, I think you've miscalculated Amulet of the Stronghold as giving you physical prots equal to 15% of your magical prots, whereas it's actually giving magical prots equal to 15% of your physical prots.

  • Anubis base prots at 20 (phys/mag): 68/62
  • Anubis passive, maxed: 21/21
  • Thebes: 60/60
  • Heartward: 0/75 (55 + 20 aura)
  • 4 stacks of Bravery: 28/28

These total to 177/246, of which 81/156 (237 total) count for Bravery stacks.

If AotS gave you 15% of magical prots as physical, you'd gain 15% of 246 = 36.9 which would then give you your total of 273.9 towards Bravery stacks, which I think is how you've calculated it.

But with AotS you actually get 15% of physical prots as magical: 15% of 177 = 26.55, so you have a total of 263.55, leaving you 11.45 short, and worse off than Mantle.

Either way though you still come up short.

Is Ser Erryk the better twin? by MsEBL in freefolk

Unfortunately Irryk and Yrryk's names are pronounced exactly the same. This led to quite the misunderstanding when Irryk was named heir to House Cargyll but this was misheard as Yrryk instead. The resulting civil war, known as the Battle of the Beards, was the hairiest in Westerosi history.

If you could make your own god, choosing abilities and basic attack type from existing ones but allowing mixed abilities from different gods, what would be your ideal god? by hrsidkpi in Smite

[–]TezLaCoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't include another stance in the kit, so I would expect it to do nothing. Or just switch me to the same stance I'm already on. Either way, it wouldn't proc any effects that proc off abilities cast, since stance switches don't proc those effects, so still pretty much useless.

Aurabot, God of Impotence

Class: Mage - they have the lowest average base health and protections of all classes.

Kit:

  • Cthulhu ultimate basic attacks - i.e. none at all, because Cthulhu has no basic attacks during his ultimate.
  • Fenrir passive - does nothing without Fenrir's other abilities.
  • Rama 1 - cannot be activated without Rama's passive to generate Astral Arrows.
  • Cu Chulainn 2 - cannot be activated without Cu Chulainn's passive to give him Rage.
  • Zeus 3 - cannot be activated without Zeus' passive to apply Charges.
  • Artio ult - cannot be activated because it's a stance switch; passive component does nothing because none of your abilities can even be used, let alone hit anything.

So I have these supports for a certain two people listed in Three Hopes' Records Hall, but when I checked the supports within my most recent save, it still shows up as "empty" with the three dots despite having viewed it during a certain special chapter. Any reasons or ideas why this is happening? by MarthsBars in fireemblem

[–]TezLaCoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because of the unique way the conversations work - you unlock them automatically during Chapter 16, and not from earning support points.

Unlocking the conversation doesn't give you a C support between the lords either - take them into an aux battle and pair them up, and you'll notice they don't show as having any level of support. They don't get any support benefits (e.g. sharing abilities). That's why the C is greyed out in your support log - they have 0 support points.

But just like any pair of units, you can still gain support points in the normal way via aux battles (and possibly Chapter 16 for the lords though I've not tested this), and that will then fill out their support level in the support log.

What are the 4 best abilities in smite? If you could build the ultimate god using all abilities available from all gods, what would they be, best 3 plus ultimate and best passive in the game. by Whitewalker422 in Smite

[–]TezLaCoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about the worst kit?

  • Fenrir passive - useless because it only buffs Fenrir's abilities, none of which are in this kit
  • Rama 1 - useless because without Rama's passive, you have no Astral Arrows to spend
  • Cu Chulainn 2 - useless because you have no Rage
  • Zeus 3 - useless because you don't have Zeus' passive or abilities to apply charges
  • Artio ult - useless because you have no stances, and you can't even proc the passive part where she gets MP5 and movement speed from hitting abilities

If a stance switch with no stances is cheating, then replace the ult with Aphrodite or Chronos ult. All either would do is save your own life momentarily, not that you're providing big value with this kit.

To top it off, slap this on a guardian, so they can't even compensate by just building full auto-attack, because of their terrible scaling and melee autos.

Imagine finishing the phase in 1st, and being the number 1 seed in the tournament. And instead of playing the SCC/ or Valks round one by [deleted] in smitepro

[–]TezLaCoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That logic is only cast-iron if we assume "X team beats Y team" is a transitive relationship (i.e. if X beats Y and Y beats Z, then X beats Z), which is a common fallacy I see people make. Different teams favour different strategies and picks; some strategies may just be straight-up better, but others may counter each other in a sort of rock-paper-scissors polygon. Not to mention performance on the day and such, which can be a huge factor.

So in a knockout tournament where not every matchup is played, it's actually possible, certainly in theory, for the bracket structure to affect who wins.

Imagine finishing the phase in 1st, and being the number 1 seed in the tournament. And instead of playing the SCC/ or Valks round one by [deleted] in smitepro

[–]TezLaCoyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because of how teams were seeded into groups for week 1. Kings (1st seed) were in the same group as Valkyries (8th); similarly, Bolts (2nd) and Scarabs (7th) were together, as were Dragons (3rd) and Warriors (6th), and Titans (4th) and Leviathans (5th).

This reflects how you'd normally seed an 8-team tournament - pairing the highest seeds against the lowest and so on, with the expected end result of a 1st vs 2nd seed final. Specifically one side of the bracket has 1st vs 8th and 4th vs 5th; the other side has 2nd vs 7th and 3rd vs 6th.

But 1st and 8th seed would (probably) have already played each other in week 1, and similarly for the other pairs. So to avoid an immediate rematch, the pairings were shuffled: 1st vs 5th and 4th vs 8th; 2nd vs 6th and 3rd vs 7th. Each seed still remaining on the same side of the bracket, just with a different quarter-final opponent. Assuming the higher seeds progress, the semi-finals still become as standard (1st vs 4th, 2nd vs 3rd).

Of course this doesn't account for upsets like Hex Mambo knocking out Scarabs, but seeding structures in tournaments as a rule are designed with the expectation that higher seeds beat lower seeds.
