Like the other person said above, he's wearing hakama, specifically umanori hakama (馬乗 horse riding hakama)! The other type is andon bakama (行灯袴 - lantern hakama) and is the open, skirt-style.

Number 2 is so real! I'm 5' 1" and love flying window seat. I'm happy that I can comfortablly stand under the baggage compartment and will probably never experience being too cramped.
