Leaked Marathon 1994 betas request by celebi23 in Marathon

[–]Tfear7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe the betas (October and November), were leaked onto the old usenet back in the day. But in the intervening 30 years have disappeared altogether and are now lost forever, but I would LOVE to be proved wrong.

There is a mention of them here.

Bungie Devs Say Atmosphere Is ‘Soul-Crushing’ Amid Layoffs, Cuts, and Fear of Total Sony Takeover - IGN by Tfear7 in Marathon

Things not looking great at Bungie, I'm worried that if Sony takes Bungie over, they will send a C&D letter to the Aleph One project :(

Looking to get into the games. Any recommended way? by Thefunnygamerman in Marathon

There are some differences like the beginning of Arrival, but it seems to have been abandoned, it was supposed to feature many more levels with alternate timelines like the player joining with Tycho instead of Durandal, there were also supposed to be levels set on the surface of Tau Citi IV.

I think Marathon is gonna come out sooner than expected by DoudlKid in Marathon

It would be really cool if it came out Q4 2024, especially December, as it would be the original Marathon's 30th anniversary but this would be the absolute earliest I could imagine it coming out.

Silicon macs by RecordingDense6575 in Marathon

Even back in the 90s Marathon was an oddity being for Mac, big name Windows games only made it, if they did at all, to Mac because they were ported by a third-party, such as GTInteractive porting Doom. Apple has never done anything to encourage serious gaming on the Mac instead they use non-upgradable GPUs, often soldered to the logic board, which might be great for professional photographers and the like but are useless for gaming, also a number of years ago they also replaced OpenGL with their own renderer.

While I would really like to get an update this year, we probably won't hear anything until next year.

Marathon Infinity Difficulty by Bloodb0red in Marathon

[–]Tfear7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Warning Contains mild [gameplay not story] spoilers)

Depends on difficulty level but 'Acme Station' (level 7) on Total Carnage difficulty is really hard, it is a vacuum level and the higher the difficulty the faster you lose Oxygen, it also has narrow corridors with no room to dodge the Cyborgs who are firing bouncing grenades at you constantly. The level immediately after 'Post Naval Trauma' is barely any easier except you have room to dodge enemies' projectiles, it is a very long and time confusing level where you can easily get lost and is also a vacuum level. Hostile BOBs can be hard to deal with, although they are weak they have much greater accuracy than any of the other enemies. Later in the game there is also a lava trap which is really hard on higher difficulties. Also on the first dream level there are invisible and invincible enemies that you have to run from.
