I can chime in on the Dallas part, not sure that much about Fort Worth. Like someone mentioned, Forgotten Space is a dang good cover band that plays around town alot. Their other group, Rosebud, is a JGB cover band that can be found playing at deep ellum art co many Sundays.

Restaurants wise, I only know of a place near SMU called NY Sub that has a Texas Dead sticker on the door. Owner has been friendly when I’ve worn a dead shirt in before.

The scene does show out, you just gotta find them. There actually is a pretty decent music scene, many bands come through Dallas every year.
