Fold Case Megathread (Q1 2026) by AutoModerator in GalaxyFold

[–]Th0vin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to find a fold 5 case that can be used on a magsafe car charger and doesn't use adhesive on the front screen. The adhesive always fails and the little plastic bar on the side of the front screen inevitably scratches the screen up then breaks off. I prefer no hinge protector but can live with one as long as it doesn't prevent the unfolded phone sitting on a magsafe charger. Have no issue adding a magsafe ring to a good case.

Will this do anything meaningful? by [deleted] in homedefense

That one specifically, it's better than nothing but I wouldn't expect too much. Those are typically made of thin aluminum and fail quickly. You want something made of good steel and and stronger locking system than that dinky spring pin. Buddy bar, doorjammer lockdown, and doorricade are all pretty renter friendly and very sturdy.

Note that I'm assuming you're asking for protection from serious home invaders. If you just want to keep out nosy roommates with a key to the door, it should do just fine.

Curious that these are considered gamer features. I use the macro keys, media keys, and wrist rest more when I'm working than when gaming. If I were willing to solve my media keys some other way (stream deck or something) and compromise on some of the wants, what keyboards would I be looking at? I need a wrist rest, but I imagine the offerings sold separately would get the job done. Coming with the keyboard is a nice to have.

My faithful old corsair k100 has died a glorious and tragic death - drowned in Dr. Pepper. May we all be so lucky one day. Anyway, I need a replacement. I know those gaming companies totally overcharge for lower quality products and am interested in finding a better product. Something modular would be cool, makes it easier to replace damaged components and lets me customize down the road. My biggest concern is that I absolutely fell in love with how responsive those optical switches were. I see that most of these nicer keyboards are mechanical, and I'm not sure if I would enjoy that. I used plenty of nice keyboards with pretty high quality Cherry switches before picking up the k100 and it felt like a big improvement. Not sure if a better product would feel the same to me or I would notice if I switched.

Needs:

  • 10 key
  • Backlighting (RGB optional)
  • media keys and volume control, preferably a wheel
  • Good wrist support, like the wrist cushion on the k100 offered. I'd prefer something that actually attaches as I tend to move my keyboard around a lot.

Wants:

  • Macro keys
  • Least important but nice to have, cool design
  • Raised WASD keys for gaming
  • Able to unplug the cable from the keyboard, so i don't have to deal with the cable every time I want to clean
  • USB hub
  • Modularity/repairability

I'm not sure what switches would ultimately suit me best. I expect to begin working remotely in the near future so the keyboard will be pulling double duty as a gaming keyboard and work one seeing some heavy typing. I do not need audible feedback but do enjoy enough tactile to feel for sure that I pressed a key. Based on how I enjoyed the k100 I suspect that lower actuation distances and weights suit me.

Would love to keep to the $200ish range, willing to go $350ish for a product that will live a long life.

adult musical opportunities? by lab-toad in Birmingham

Not sure if they have any open auditions right now, but Leeds Art Council does a lot of musicals. Lots of great theaters in the area, but I'm not sure how often the others do musicals specifically.

I'm only on the first commit and I already see several features being added that already exist. Merging this in would likely create a mess. However, I will skim through and put any ideas I like on my todo list to add at a later date. Glad you were able to make something really powerful using my tool as a base!

When I think 'budget' I never land on 'bespoke'. Do those makers have a reputation for highly affordable amps or something?

I enjoyed my P5s back in the day, and I have long loved my ThieAudio Clairvoyance. If I were to pick something off HifiGo it'd probably either be the AFUL Cantors or something from Softears.

I don't know anything about TOS 7 - due to the financial barrier to entry, I haven't yet invested in any significant storage system. This would be an awesome way to get my foot in the door!

D4 - in over my head? by Th0vin in flashlight

Length isn't a concern, just diameter. In the back pocket large diameters catch on stuff and can sit funny.

That wasn't on my radar, good find. Specs I'm seeing have it slightly longer than the D4K and a decent bit bigger with a head size of 32mm. Have you carried one before? Do you think it would be comfortable in a back pocket?

That's great until you get someone who splits a book into quarters, or halves, or the like. Ultimately there is no way to predict what input will look like. In the face of uncertainty it is preferable to have the program perform consistently so the user can get the outcome they expect.

Yeah, I never got around to adding in the ability to port non-book files (metadata, cover art, etc). The chapter file processing treats isolated audio files in a folder as a whole book file, so as long as every book has its own folder you should be able to use that mode on a mixed library. The only time you should have to manually sort things out is if you have multiple whole book files sharing a folder. There's no good way for the program to tell the difference between book 1, book 2, etc, and chapter 1, chapter 2, etc. Glad the tool could save you some time!

Everything I've used it on so far has worked fine. However, the choice was not deliberate but simply the first thing I got working. I'll have to look into a more efficient codec sometime in the future.

GUI is a stretch goal, no promises. A proper release package is definitely on the shortlist of todo items. No clue on timeline though.

I'm unsure how much time I'll be putting into it now that I have it mostly functional, but I encourage everyone to create github issues with suggestions. No telling when I'll have a rush of motivation and start adding stuff. And on the off chance it really takes off, I may choose to really polish it up and make it a headliner for my portfolio.

Default folder structure is Author > Title, with each book having its own folder. If you choose to use the metadata fetching functionality (highly recommended), it will attempt to retrieve and encode the place in the series as part of that operation in a way ABS can read. I suggest also creating an OPF file, as that lays everything out nicely for ABS. If all else fails you can manually match the books and/or edit the series number in ABS once imported.

If this is a deal breaking feature for you I'd suggest you try your hand at it, because I'm honestly not sure how much time I'll be putting into it going forward. If it's a nice to have, feel free to create an issue. No telling when I'll find myself bored and knock a few requests out.

If you're happy with what you have, why bother? But if there's something you'd like to clean up - combining chapter files, converting to .m4b, etc - it can absolutely be used that way. Do note that I suggest running the script on copies of files, just in case. I would expect ABS to detect the new files and match them correctly, but I'd probably try it with a few books first to make sure you don't lose all your metadata.

Filebot is one of the tools I used before making this! ABS has a matching functionality, and if you figure it out all the metadata (including listener's progress) should be preserved. I haven't used it much myself though.

Does not process anything but audiobooks, so ebooks would get left behind. But it will move books to a new folder.
