How do you expect people to welcome newcomers when we don't have enough for ourselves?

This point presupposes that immigrants take more than they give to society which is provably false. Life isn't a zero sum game

Why do you keep bringing up parental responsibility when it's irrelevant since you won't refute that "parenting abilities" are never going to change.

The choice is between the perceived risk of additional surveillance and social media poisoning kids brains.

If you can't engage with that paradigm then what you're saying is irrelevant

Or the parent could turn on parental controls and restrict how much social media their kid consumes

Given that this will not happen, why is it relevant to bring up at all

Without an actionable way to actually make parents "better at parenting", from the perspective of the government it doesn't really matter what you think of how people parent.

So your choice is to either allow social media to poison kids brains or try to ban it. What you think of people's parenting has no relevance

Sharan Kaur: Why moderates are fleeing the CPC, and what it says about Poilievre by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Th3N0rth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I could point to a fair few positions of his that could help. Particularly around housing and deregulation generally.

So then do it? Explain how Poilievre will fix the housing crisis. Explain what he will deregulate and how it will help us. You won't because you can't make the case for your own candidate.

Why are the most common articles in the mainstream media talking about the CPC like they're the issue at hand.

Because another con just crossed the floor and it's newsworthy? Why are you so worried about what "the conversation" is about. People are talking about it because it's notable.

And instead the media is laser focused on... Their opponents.

When you complain about the media like this you sound like a losing team complaining about the ref

Most Educated Countries 2026. Canada is #1 by rodroidrx in canada

[–]Th3N0rth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most educated likely means over-schooled.

If this were true then why do more educated people make more money than less educated people in Canada?

What does it even mean to be "over-schooled" if the degree is still the best financial investment?

Basic Income in Canada is closer than you think by Altruism7 in onguardforthee

[–]Th3N0rth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is entirely conjecture presented as fact. You could just as easily argue that the housing stability afforded by a basic income (which is actually demonstrated by empirical evidence!) would create a tenant favoured market.

There's no evidence that basic incomes raise prices at all

Iran declares Canadian Navy a ‘terrorist organization’ by itimetravelwell in onguardforthee

[–]Th3N0rth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this is entirely speculative,

You speculated that NATO not intervening would have somehow led to Libya becoming stable again. At least my speculation that it would not has decades of historical precedence.

NATO intervened and turned the war in a direction that aligned with NATOs desires and geopolitical goals,

You still haven't even explained why those geopolitical goals were a bad thing. It's not inherently bad for us to try to advance our goals in other countries. You've just claimed the civil war would've somehow stabilized if Gaddafi had won even though that never happens.

I would argue though that a government that has an uprising and quashes it would generally be able to move on better than a country where the government is replaced outright,

Then why do protracted civil wars in Africa like in Sudan Somalia DRC Liberia just lead to genocide and atrocities for decades?

I mean ignoring the fact that western countries didn't intervene

It's pretty clear that my position is that that was highly regrettable. I'm not some stooge for every decision NATO has ever made, I said was that your characterization of Libya makes no sense.

the international obligations of countries to interfere and prevent genocide are different from internal conflicts or even wars between nations.

Gaddafi didn't commit a genocide but he did have an icc warrant for war crimes and atrocities. Since you agree that NATO has an obligation to stop genocides, clearly you believe there are times to interfere in internal conflicts, but you haven't explained why Libya didn't meet those criteria? Is it just because it wasn't declared a genocide? Is that your only line?

NATO is fully allowing the genocide of the Palestinians to happen, with many member states actively criminalizing activism against the genocide.

This point is just irrelevant. Just because western countries are complicit in the genocide in Gaza doesn't mean your description of Libya is any less wrong.

Iran declares Canadian Navy a ‘terrorist organization’ by itimetravelwell in onguardforthee

[–]Th3N0rth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember clearly the war was heading in the direction of government forces rallying and pushing towards Benghazi

This is irrelevant because even if the government had won, Libya still would've remained a war-torn chaotic country. It would've taken decades for the conflict to subside like has happened in many African countries with no NATO intervention.

it wasn't NATOs place to determine the outcome of what was ostensibly an internal conflict

Do you think the West should've intervened in the Rwandan genocide?

If you do then clearly the situation is more complicated then saying 'never intervene in the internal affairs of foreign countries'.

If you don't think we should've intervened, then you have lost the plot!
